In the 10 years I have been playing, I have owned at least 10 guitars and played hundreds more. This guitar is the most amazing guitar you will ever hear. The tone goes from Iron Maiden to Jimmy Page with few adjustments. If you want a guitar that will last you a lifetime, this is it. The only other guitar I will ever purchase will be something that I can beat up on when hanging out or gigging.
So its not a LES PAUL STANDARD.... get passed the shape & the pretty colors. The Burstbucker Pros do all the talkin. A bit less bulky & lighter.... you won't find another Gibson w/ these pickups at this price. Sounds incredible. You won't be sorry.
I just got my new Les Paul DC plain top today. The sound is the best of ANY new Les Pauls. It seems to offer more precise noting and the drive is less muddy sounding (to me). The clean sounds better than the Standard or Deluxe. Through an old Music Man amp it SINGS! It offers harmonics as easy as pie. I like the two volume/one tone control and the toggle easy to reach. The finish near the neck join is a little rough and there are some light orange peel on the bottom and side of the headstock. I'm considering returning for better finish detail but the sound is SO SWEET!. This particular guitar has great acoustic resonance! The frets are high and crisp. Action needed slight adjustment without problem. This is better than other Double Cuts I have tried and I believe much much better tone than the Standard! I'm still checking this one out but the sound really is great!
Just got mine today and felt compelled to provide a review. Played over 4 hrs in 3 amps. Sounded great in all, but really was phenomenal in my JCM800. I have several guitars, 6 of which are Gibson and I'd yet to find anything that sounded as good as my Les Paul Standard - until this. The guitar arrived as flawless ebony. Played well right out of the case but will still take in for a setup as it needs a few personal tweaks. The neck and fretboard are extremely playable. The burstbucker pro pups are a fantastic match with this guitar. Handles jazzy cleans and full throttle marshall roar while keeping definition. very responsive to volume and tone knob. I've had my eye on this and was thrilled that it is on clearance. fantastic deal! A genuine LP (no "studio" or "worn" tag) for so much less than a Standard. Another one outta the park for Gibson!
I bought this guitar in Las Vegas after winning a jackpot at the Paris hotel.I had plenty of $$ to buy with and played many..This was my final choice and have not looked back or regretted it..After adjusting the action to my likings, this is one of if not the best playing/sounding guitars in my 40 years playing time..A real winner..Good job Gibson!
OMG, I love the double cutaways and minimalist contemporary finish on this LP, PLUS it sounds no less awesome than the time honored Standards with the Burstbucker Pro pups! Gibson definitely got it right if they were looking to evolve the next generation of LP through this model! No other Gibson is as versatile in terms of playability as well as looks and image. I love the shape too, as it retains the heritage of the historic Gibson body figure with slight cutomisation for the cutaway (unlike the long horn version which I find distasteful as IMHO it has compromised too much the Gibson character). Frankly I think it is way under priced at the moment! It is officially my favourite guitar in the world, for now anyways :)
This guitar is great. It is a great alternative to an already great design. The way it is laid out makes it a lot easier to avoid getting your tone muffled on your neck pick up. Only problem I have with mine is that even after a professional set up it still slips out of tune randomly. Besides that it is great.
I Played this guitar today. I LOVE IT! I am very fond of the double cut away les paul. EVERYBODY gets the standard les paul. This guitar played very smoothly and had a beautiful sound. This is going to be my next guitar. And the best part is that I like playing this better than the standard les paul and its cheaper.
