OVERVIEW

A rock and roll classic revisited.

Introduced in 1954 as an entry-level version of the Les Paul, the Les Paul Junior graduated from kids bedrooms, to garage bands, to club and arena stages through the course of three decades as it became a favorite of beginners and professional players alike. The bare-bones, slab-bodied, single-cutaway electric earned the respect of rock and rollers in particular, and became a punk favorite in the late ™70s and early ™80s, but also turned up in the hands of a surprisingly diverse range of guitar stars.

As simple as the Les Paul Junior was in design and construction, its basic cornerstone ingredients added up to create a robust and toneful instrument. The marriage of hot, raw single-coil P-90 pickup, resonant mahogany body, and sturdy glued-in Gibson neck created a guitar with surprising reserves of depth and power, at an extremely appealing price.

Now the Les Paul Jr Special Exclusive reproduces the simple pleasures of that 55-year-old classic, while updating the format with a second pickup (in the neck position, a la the Les Paul Special), and improved hardware in the form of a tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece combination.

FEATURES
  • Mahogany body
  • 24.75" Scale slim-taper mahogany neck
  • Torrified maple fretboard with 22 medium frets
  • Dual Gibson P-90 soapbar single-coil pickups
  • Tune-o-matic bridge
  • Kluson vintage-style tuning machines

Solid, well-made Gibson guitar. The P-90's are rich & full if a bit trebly, but, hey, either you love 'em or hate 'em. Lots of bite when you dig in. This is a well-made instrument worthy of the name. The baked maple board plays like ebony with more mid-range to my ear at least. With gain, this thing cooks.

I would highly recommend this guitar if you are not normally a fan of single coils.

I had the original guitar this morhped into, the Les Paul Special. They are pretty to look at, but they just don't resonate in your hands when you play. The neck seemed a bit too flat for my liking. Perhaps they improved on this LPJ, but it looks awfully familiar. Mine came with a case though. The price is right, if you aren't that intrested in expressive, burnished Blues playing.

Gibson Les Paul Junior Special

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Junior Special Electric Guitar with P-90 Pickups:

I just got this guitar toda in satin ebony and I love it!! I was playing a Les Paul Junior with a single P90 before, but it never really quite got the full sound I was looking for. With dual P90s this guitar has a full sound and feels good to play, plugged in or unplugged. It is a solid, well built guitar made in the USA and it has a full sound. You could play almost anything on this guitar and it would sound good. I would suggest this guitar to anyone I know who wants a well built instrument that will really catch attention just by the way it sounds. It has a nice crunch, where you can still hear every note in the chord, with distortion and a beautiful clean sound. Also, the baked maple fretboard is amazing, feels and looks great!!!

Amazing what they've done with the baked maple finger boards....a cross between rosewood & ebony feel to it.... The price just knocks me out! A Gibson Les Paul for less than other brands!!! It's a real keeper... right along side my vintage Les Pauls....

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Junior Special Electric Guitar with P-90 Pickups:

I don't perform; I play to relax and have fun after work and on weekends. I do not need a $2k guitar. Previous guitar was an Epi LP Jr ($125) that I couldn't keep in tune for long. Decided it was time to upgrade to a real Les Paul. All I can say is, "AMAZING!" Set up is fine out of the box. Stays in tune. Nice low action with no buzzing. Tapered neck inspires confidence working up and down fretboard. Clean sounds are bright and crisp; a little gain/distort and it growls metal chords and riffs. The sustain is infinite. The price is ridiculously low when you consider the quality. Amazing value here! This guitar looks like a work of art and it absolutely screams. Get one...I'm sure the price is going up. I am going to take it in for a set-up and move down to .009 strings (I know, I know...LAME!). I've been away from the guitar for a while and .010s/.011s are a bit rough on my fingers.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Junior Special Electric Guitar with P-90 Pickups:

What an incredible bargain, American made Gibson for about a half a grand! Surprisingly, right out of the box this thing was set up great, no setup needed which is not usually the case. As others have stated, the P-90s on this thing are awesome! Great clean tone, and sweet, ballsy overdriven tones for blues and rock. I haven't weighed the guitar, but I find it to be a very comfortable weight especially compared to my other Les Pauls which are around 9 lbs and get pretty heavy after an hour on stage. Only 2 criticisms on this guitar, the strap buttons on this thing seem abnormally small, the guitar has fallen out of my strap a few times already (I see strap locks in my future) and the finish on the satin yellow model I bought seems pretty fragile and easily scratchable. I suspect the gloss models may be a bit more durable if that's important to you.

Overall though, this thing is a steal for the price. American made, great quality, tone and playability that you can't get from other companies at anywhere close to this price.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Junior Special Electric Guitar with P-90 Pickups:

Playing this through a Traynor YCV20 and the P90's are amazing. The volume and tone controls give you everything you could want. And with 2 P90's you also have 3 completely different settings to chose from. The neck pick up is creamy smooth and the bridge bites when cranked, and everything between is amazing too. I haven't found anything I don't love about this guitar. The neck feels perfect and guitar was set up beautifully. An amazing deal and my first Gibson. I could never find one that I could afford. I have fenders, squires, epi's, schecters, ibanez and ESP but they will have to sit awhile. Can't put this one down, highly recommended

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Junior Special Electric Guitar with P-90 Pickups:

This is a great value for an American made Gibson. The body is a very basic slab of mahogany, fairly light and comfortable at 7.5 lbs. The finish is ok, but nothing special (Mine is satin ebony, which was the only finish available when I bought it).

The neck, on the other hand is a pleasure to play. Mine was set up great out of the box, no fret buzz, very straight, and feels like a good quality Gibson neck. I like the baked maple fretboard too. The classic P-90 pickup tone is so nice. Just a lot of fun to play.

If you aren't expecting it to be just like a high-end Les Paul, you won't be disappointed.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Junior Special Electric Guitar with P-90 Pickups:

Has some heft to it, which was a bit of a surprise. (mine weighs 8.1 lbs.) I love the thin 60's neck with the binding, no fret issues at all, 60 cycle hum is very minor; I really don't even notice it. No finish issues, I wish it had Grovers instead of Klusons, but they work OK. The out of the box setup was minimal but that was easily solved. The only issue, which I have heard is common in newer Gibsons, is a small tendency to give off a static pop every now and then; something to do with the electro-static charge they apply during the application of the finish, and I heard it usually goes away in a few weeks.
Really not a problem in any event, this thing is nice, much better tone than a 2012 LP Studio that I was considering. I love it.

I have been looking for a Jr for awhile . Finally bought one and I do not regret it at all! I have a Les Paul Traditional and thought that was my main guitar but am really impressed with the sound of the p-90's.I also own Fender and hamer guitars but the sound and the price of the Jr..well I recommend it highly. Great intonation and the feel of it is great. Holds its tuning good. I think you will not regreat buying it. Wish it would have had a hardshell case
