OVERVIEW

A rock and roll classic outfitted with raw humbucking power.

Introduced in 1954 as an entry-level version of the Les Paul, the Les Paul Junior graduated from kids bedrooms, to garage bands, to club and arena stages through the course of three decades as it became a favorite of beginners and professional players alike. The bare-bones, slab-bodied, single-cutaway electric earned the respect of rock and rollers in particular, and became a punk favorite in the late ™70s and early ™80s, but also turned up in the hands of a surprisingly diverse range of guitar stars.

As simple as the Les Paul Junior was in design and construction, its basic cornerstone ingredients added up to create a robust and toneful instrument. The marriage of its resonant mahogany body, sturdy glued-in Gibson neck, and now a pair of Gibson 490 humbucking pickups has created a guitar with surprising reserves of power and crunch at an extremely appealing price. Now the Les Paul Jr Special w/ humbuckers reproduces the simple pleasures of that 55-year-old classic, while updating the format with a second pickup in the neck position (a la the Les Paul Special), and improved hardware in the form of a tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece combination.

Loved my American Strat so much.... but can't stop playing my LP Special. The output from these pickups is amazing. So much fun to play distored. I threw some fuzz on it and got a great black keys sound. The neck pickup is great. I dont care for bridge pickups in general and only use them if I play with the neck. I can get good sounds out of this one by adjusting the tone nob.

The sale price on these are amazing. Best value you can find on an american made guitar imo. I got satin suburst and in the sunlight shows great wood coming through.

Setup was great. The action was so low. It plays so fast. no fret buzz. Intonation on one string was slightly off but not by much.

My only complaint is that I wish it had the belly cutout. At this price you cant complian. neck binding is great, thats the cherry on top. Just like the specials of old.

This is a nice instrument but not superior. Sound is good for the money. The biggest disappointment was that it arrived damaged; yes, dented and scratched on the lower, rear edge of the body; as tho' someone dropped it as they were putting it in the gig bag and did not bother to worry about it. Very disapponting as I expected better quality control from Gibson. I e-mailed MF right away and then called and they gave me the authorization to return it without question or hassle. It's on its way back to Kansas City! One odd thing tho', because I paid for it by PayPal, I was not able to exchange it but have to wait for a refund and then re-order. This makes no sense to me but is MF's policy evidently. The one plus to this, I get to think about a better replacement for the LP Jr. Special as I was not overly impressed with the quality of finish. Hope QC is better on the replacement!

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Junior Special with Humbuckers Electric Guitar:

this guitar is the 1969 Plymouth road runner of the guitar world..stripped down and ready for business
is really has everything going for it.. sounds good plays good. its light good tuners.. this is actually my second one first one was new and sold .. mistakenly so I got another .. best year in my opinion.. 2 pickups stop bar and bridge and NECK BINDING ..a must in my personal opinion to any set neck guitar.
ihave no complaint about the finish and have had both the gloss and satin .. I do like gloss better but hey you can personalize the satin and nor feel bad about it.. I like this more than a les paul standard by far ..its cool stripped down and unlike a fancy dooded up guitar that costs more than triple when you get a scuff or scratch it looks better and no getting sick about it

This was my 5th Gibson.I thought the price was right and how can you go wrong with a Gibson?Well this is the second (cheaper les paul) that I have sent back. You see it wasn't the finish, but the sanding before. Not smooth, and pits in the wood..Easily corrected but not done, 2x's..gibson #1,but not for long...

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Junior Special with Humbuckers Electric Guitar:

I have dozens of guitars, including several Epiphone clones of Gibson guitars, but this is my first real "Gibby". And what a great addition to my collection. I love the simplicity of a slab LP, but this thing has some great features all its own. The neck binding is very well done and an exceptional addition to a guitar at this price level. The action and overal build quality are everything I could hope for. And I hoped for a lot, considering it's an American made guitar. The action is low and accurate. The frets are polished. The finish is flawless. But the components of this guitar that I had not expected to be so good, though, are the pickups. What a nice sound they make, really nice. A quality guitar, made in America, even a low cost one, and esp nowadays, is something special. It makes me proud. This guitar represents why American made axes have always maintained a position at the top.
Buy this guitar and you will have something truly special. Plus I got mine as "condition 2": used from Musicians Friend. Way to go MF! As always you exceeded my expections. For all intents and purposes this is a brand new guitar. So happy with my real Gibson! Thank you.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Junior Special with Humbuckers Electric Guitar:

Recieved it a week ago and just got around to playing it. Arrived in perfect condition. Not thrilled about all black and they did nothing to break it up but I didn't want to pay the extra for a satin finish. I plan on changing the knobs and toggle cap. Intonation was out a bit and I dropped the sting action only slightly. Took 15 minutes for both and is really good now. All fit and finish seems perfect. Pickups are bright for humbuckers but not a bad thing because the tone controls work exellent with no loss in sound quality. I played some David Gilmour and Slash and both were equaly satisfying. The neck feels slightly thinner and wider than my 90's USA Strat that I've always said plays like butter, which is kinda cool cause I'm having a hard time deciding which one I like better. Over all I think this guitar is a really good investment and plays better than it looks.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Junior Special with Humbuckers Electric Guitar:

Just received mine last week. I was skeptical about the torrified (baked) maple fingerboard but came to LOVE it. It feels harder than rosewood or ebony and is smooth as glass.

This guitar, surprisingly came with the fully bound fretboard, including the Les Paul signature fret wire end binding and it came with much better Kluson deluxe tuners (not even advertised!)

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Junior Special with Humbuckers Electric Guitar:

This is my third Gibson electric and I am very impressed with the quality of the workmanship. I wasn't sure about the torrified maple fingerboard but am very happy with it. The entire fingerboard is fully bound, including the signature Les Paul style on the end of the fret wires. Very good attention to detail.

Please note: this is listed as having Grover tuners but it does not - it comes with MUCH higher quality Kluson Deluxe tuners. I wanted to change style and bought Grover Deluxe tuners, but there was a huge quality difference, then looking closer I realized the stock tuners were NOT grovers but Klusons. Much Much better.

The only minor downside is that the hum, buckers come with two wires (although they are made as 4-wire) so you can't easily coil split these.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Junior Special with Humbuckers Electric Guitar:

Good solid working guitarist's guitar. Traditional Gibson tone and about 8 pounds for great balance. The 60s neck shape is the most accurate since 1995. Very comfortable and very similar to the early custom shop 60s profile, not the flat back-square shouldered uncomfortable shape of the so called slim 60s neck made in recent years. Some may say the finish is a bit fragile, but for the price, "Hey"! I've read negative comments about the baked Maple fret boards, although I find no faults with it, and Maple has proven to be great guitar wood since electric guitars have existed. I've played guitar for decades and I am a former Gibson quality control Employee, I have to give them a thumbs up on this one. I would choose this guitar over any import anywhere close to this price range. I would have given it 5 stars if it had forearm and belly body contours.

This is probably the best modern day bargain basement Gibson that has been produced (now discontinued)in the last 20 years. I purchased the TV Yellow Satin and was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box. Finish was surprisingly sound and hardware looks & performs amazing, great that these are US Made and still available at very reasonable prices. I have always been a huge P90's fan and was unsure about the humbuckers, these have a truly unique early 1960's sound that are very satisfying. Buy this while still available, have purchased $1200 Gibsons that aren't as good...
