OVERVIEW

The legend continues with 21st-century neck refinements.

The Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Electric Guitar earns its name thanks to the traditional features you expect in a Les Paul guitar: mahogany body, set neck with rounded '50s profile, maple top, and a pair of Gibson's '57 Classic humbucker pickups. One significant, yet not-so-traditional improvement: the neck is analyzed by Gibson's Plek machine. Using computer precision Gibson Plek files the frets and cuts slots in the nut to an accuracy of a hundredth of a millimeter for optimal action and intonation without string buzzing.

It?s always risky to buy a guitar without playing it. But, a brand new Gibson should be a safe bet for highest quality. I told myself that I would send the guitar back if it wasn?t perfect. So, when I got it out of the box, I looked over every inch and played for hours on every string and fret combination. The guitar is beautiful, the neck is butter and the tone is Holy Grail. Almost perfect: it plays so well that I forgave Gibson for a finish issue (the gold paint was over sprayed beyond the binding around the cutaway). I?m a little disappointed that I had to break my oath to myself, but you?d have to pry this guitar out of my cold, dead hands for me to give her up (my wife named her ?Lexy?).

Gibson quality is hit or miss, and I've had several misses. This LP Standard Traditional was perfect in every way and sounds like a great Gibson should. Keep up the good work!

Fantastic guitar. I wish they would put a little clearer neck pickup in, but it is warm so tradeoffs are impossible to avoid. Played great right out of the box. Bridge pickup rocks! Love the 50's style neck, unless you are steve vai, this neck will be fast enough for you.

This was for my 50th birthday. The 1st guitar had a crack in the back of the neck. The second guitar had a ledge where the binding on the neck was bad on the 1st 4 frets!!!Never again. Go Fender and PRS

Picked this up recently from MF, delivered in less than a week and my friends were drooling over the finish and quality. You'll need a set up just like any guitar. String change, bass side lowered and intonation set has this puppy ringing true. Own a Strat and a PRS for electrics, so now I have my range covered. Sustain for days and the PAFs are insane. For ABB/Zep/The Dead et al, the Lester puts out big time. Blues riffs are especially sweet. If you are thinking on it... Worry not and pull the trigger. You'll be glad you did. Thanks, Musician's Friend. You've done it again.

I can't begin to express how much this guitar exceeded my expectations. Every note that I play on this reminds me of the wonderful person who invented it and it really brings me a lot of joy. The Goldtop has a beautiful finish that the pictures on this website doesn't do justice.

This is a top notch guitar

                      from Scottsdale, AZ

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Electric Guitar:

Having this guitar for only a short time has brought back a lot of joy in playing. This guitar sounds and feels right when I play it...amazing how that helps when working on new material. The first time I plugged it in, it sounded great without any changes to my amp and effect settings.

Thank you, Musician's Friend, this was an excellent purchase.
This Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional has all the features I was looking for.
The fit and finish is excellent, flawless. I bought a condition 1 (like new) used instrument from this site. I pulled a mint condition guitar out of the box when it arrived. Not a flaw that I can find. The action was very playable out of the box. The pickups go from nice and clean to very rude!

This guitar sounds great with my amplifiers and effects:

                      Carvin Vintage16
                      Crate V50
                      Laney Pro 100 head/4x12 cab

                      VOX wah
                      TS808 Tube Screamer
                      MXR Carbon Copy
I can't really put a price on a high quality instrument. When you find one that's special, it is priceless.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Electric Guitar:

Overall. extemely happy with my first Lester. I have an SRV Strat, An American Tele, and a 61 Reissue SG, and I usually pick up the Lester to play first because it sounds so good, and the playabilty is JUST AWESOME with the Plek Setup. Just makes a huge difference -- you almost don't even have to press down much to fret it -- super good action.
All the tonal goodness anyone would want from a Lester. The PAF's are loud and raunchy if you want that, or tone 'em down for some clean Bluesey action.
For a "used" model, about all I noticed was the plastic wasn't on the pickguard. Otherwise, extremely well built as one would expect of a 2 grand guitar.
Saved a bit by getting a Mint Condition Used Model. No regrets!

                      Great guitar, but heavy!

                      By sore fingers

                      from Texas

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Electric Guitar:

Everything about this guitar is great except for one thing, the weight. I mostly play Strats but have always wanted a Les Paul. I knew that they were heavy but this thing seriously felt like I was playing a fence post when I first got it. I'm getting used to it, though. In hindsight, I feel like I should have paid more for the Standard, which is chambered as opposed weight-relieved. But I'm still happy with the guitar and it will always be part of my collection.
Pretty straight forward guitar when it comes to features. It's got everything a Les Paul should have. The 57 Classics sound beautiful on the clean channel. I don't play with very much gain so I can't really say how they perform when you really crank it up.
Everything about the guitar is top-notch, mostly. The finish, binding, fret work, and overall construction is fine. The only thing that caught my eye was on the upper bout where the toggle switch is. It seems like the guitar may not have been properly carved because right where the switch is there's a subtle bump. Maybe this is normal, though.
I feel like I got what I paid for. This is a sturdy, well-made, American guitar that I can see myself playing for the rest of my life.
