    A sweet singing SG suited for a steel-fingered string-slinger.

The Limited Run 50th Anniversary Derek Trucks SG Electric Guitar is made to exacting specs of Derek’s main stage guitar, the body of the Derek Trucks SG is typical of the thin SG bodies from the mid 1960s, made from solid mahogany complete with traditional beveled edges and the distinct dual sharp cutaway horns that allow complete access to the guitar’s full 22-fret rosewood fingerboard. The body is then finished in Heritage Cherry, which is very similar to the finish of his beloved ’61 SG reissue. The hardware features a Tune-O-Matic bridge paired with a stopbar tailpiece, along with a chrome Lyre tailpiece.

This SG is outfitted with a pair of ‘57 Classic humbucking pickups made with genuine Alnico II magnets, and wound with 42-AWG enamel-coated wire just like the originals, but are wax potted to combat microphonic squeal for high-volume playing.

The guitar’s quartersawn mahogany neck is carved in a slim but rounded 1960’s profile that measures .800” at the 1st fret and .895” at the 12th. It is glued into the body with Gibson’s deep set-neck joint and topped with a Grade-A rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium-jumbo frets and vintage cream binding. A Gibson hardshell case is included.

Comments about Gibson Limited Run 50th Anniversary Derek Trucks SG Electric Guitar:

The finish on this beautiful piece of Mahogany is stunning. The instrument shipped to me is absolutely flawless. The rosewood on the fingerboard is the nicest that I have ever seen with beautiful red hues running through it. The pickups are hot with a classic Gibson tone. There are only two things that you need to be careful of. These are that the nitro finish is very easily marked up and there is no pickguard to prevent the pick from easily scratching the guitar body. I noticed right away that the strap I had put on the guitar had already marred the body a bit where the neck strap button is (it made a circle). This is my first nitro guitar but I think this is something that most people owning these guitars are already aware of. The upside is that the nitor will give that beautiful vintage look as it ages. I am not sure if Musician's Friend has any more of these in stock. If they do, you should snatch one up. I opened the case to show my friend and it seemed like he was looking at it like it was the lost ark of the covenant, it's that nice. Gibson doesn't skimp on the case either. Well worth the money. Musician's friend gave me an awesome deal on this that I couldn't refuse. My background: Music School, playing for more than 20 years. Great guitar. Will be a family heirloom.

Comments about Gibson Limited Run 50th Anniversary Derek Trucks SG Electric Guitar:

This guitar is perfect for anyone who would like to do any of the following things; Number one play in open E tuning. The setup of this guitar allows you to tighten the strings up to open E tuning but it is still as easy to bend strings as it would be in standard tuning on basically any other guitar. With my strat playing in open E trying to bend strings was basically a complete struggle, and made me wonder how the hell Derek Trucks could bend so easily with .11 gauge strings in open tuning. Now I know. It's the setup. Secondly with my pickups in the strat I had to turn my tone knobs down to zero to get a smooth slide guitar sound. That sounded nice, BUT it had absolutely NO punch or power and I was getting lost in the mix constantly. With this guitar the pickups are designed to have a LOT OF POWER. And you will basically have that mysteriously perfect Derek Trucks slide tone you may be looking for. If your looking at this guitar I would assume that you are looking for that as that is what he is known for. It has punch and for whatever reason doesn't get all scratchy and nasty sounding if you keep the tone knobs cranked up even all the way to ten. This guitar was just such a life upgrade.. I am a very happy customer.. It is a beautiful guitar. If you are thinking about buying this guitar though, please do yourself a favor and make sure you own a nice Fender Super or Deluxe Reverb. Otherwise it doesn't matter what guitar you have. All other amps are basically worthless.
