Comments about Gibson Limited Run L6-S Electric Guitar:
I had always liked the original L-6S models, but that narrow nut width couldn't accommodate my large hands. This one has the standard Gibson 1-11/16ths nut, but the trade-off is the large headstock which I don't find as unique and attractive as the original tapered version. Other than that, this is a solid maple beast with the right attitude. Very thin and very comfortable. It's an odd duck, to be sure, but I like ducks. In any event, if Gibson decides to continue producing this guitar, it should use a smoother 6-way switch; this one's as stiff as a Yugo gearbox.

Comments about Gibson Limited Run L6-S Electric Guitar:
I've owned this guitar since Carlos Santana introduced it back in the day.I love the whole experience of this Baby!I still own it today.
Comments about Gibson Limited Run L6-S Electric Guitar:
Nice alternative to a Les Paul.
I own this reissue L6S. Maple body, maple neck, maple fret board.
Pickups sound great! In single-coil mode there is a nice fullness to the tone. When both neck and bridge PU's are on (switch position 3), the tone approaches the quack of a Strat.
The "bass cut" control is a nice feature that provides more tone variations. Best used when playing chords to give them a smooth tone. Back it off from 10 for rhythm then crank it back up to 10 for leads.
The 6-position PU/mode selector switch takes a bit to get used to but starts to become 2nd-nature after a few playing sessions.
Weight, solid, but not too heavy.
Comments about Gibson Limited Run L6-S Electric Guitar:
I'll give Gibson props for not doing just another of their ENDLESS LP and Artist Signature jobs, but if you are going to reissue then make it a REAL reissue. I'm sure this is a fine ax, but it is NOT an L6-S.
Not anywhere near the original feaures: coil splitting: whoopie. Original had 6 distinctly unique sounds based on in phase, out of phase, series or parallel wiring. Regular tone control plus midrange. Bass-cut/boost, treble cut/boost on this reissue is the only interesting change that could be an improvement. Photo clearly shows a rosewood fingerboard NOT maple like the original.
Wouldn't be fair to comment as Gibsons im my experience are hit or miss: you either get a gem or a lemon--no in betweens. Oddly, original L6-S's I have played are ALL built like a rock, so who knows?
Originals in good condition can be had on the used market and in my opinion (I have owned three since 1977) are more versatile. Non maple finishes (black, silver burst or sunburst) also have ebony fingerboards.
