    Gibson

A modern semi-hollowbody of mahogany with a solid maple top and soapbar pickups.

By merging the best attributes of Gibson's legendary solidbody and archtop electric guitars, the Midtown Standard and Midtown Custom of 2011 became instant hits with players of all stripes. Now Gibson USA taps those same irresistible qualities and adds a vintage-vibed twist to create a stunning new performer: the Midtown Standard P-90. This great new guitar maintains its predecessors' trimmed-down and more player-friendly body size that still emulates the lines of Gibson's classic archtops, but which is built with the Midtown line's advanced chambered, solid-wood construction (rather than laminated top and back) to truly embody the optimum marriage of solidbody and archtop. To take the Midtown Standard P-90 anywhere from raw vintage rock, blues and funk to contemporary jazz, Americana, or whatever you want to throw at it, Gibson USA loads the guitar with a pair of fat- and rich-sounding P-90 single-coil pickups, and dresses it all in a hand-sprayed, high-gloss nitrocellulose finish.

The Midtown Standard P-90 starts with premium tonewoods, using Grade-A timbers beneath the four transparent finish options (with Grade-C grain beneath the Pelham Blue guitars). A solid mahogany body is strategically chambered for optimum resonance and capped with a solid maple top with traditional f-holes. Its solid mahogany neck is carved to a fast, comfortable '60s-style profile that measures .800" at the 1st fret and .875" at the 12th. The genuine rosewood fingerboard carries 22 medium-jumbo frets and is inlaid with traditional acrylic trapezoids that link the Midtown Standard P-90 to one of its predecessors, the Les Paul Standard, while cream binding enhances both fingerboard and body top. To best show off its great woods and luscious finishes, the Midtown Standard P-90 is built without a pickguard.

Plugged in, the Midtown Standard P-90 reveals its true glory via a pair of Gibson's legendary P-90 pickups. These beloved pickups have a fatter, richer tone than thinner single-coils, and provide everything from thick grit and snarl for rock 'n' roll, to rich, creamy warmth for jazz, to singing blues tones with great snappy and funky tones in between. Each pickup is made to the same specs as the vintage examples that made the P-90 famous, including coils wound from 42-AWG wire with two Alnico V magnets loaded beneath each pickup. To keep it all simple, Gibson USA routes these pickups through the traditional 3-way toggle switch and master volume and tone controls with classic gold Speed Knobs. For optimum resonance and sustain, the Midtown Standard P-90s carries the classic pairing of a Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece with a PLEK-cut Corian™ nut up top, partnered with a set of premium Grover™ Keystone tuners.

Each guitar comes protected in a plush-lined hardshell case with black exterior and includes owner's manual and adjustment literature.

tried to like it. great value for such a nice guitar. tried three or four amps with it, pedals, turned all the knobs every which way. it was hard for me to find a sweet spot where it felt right. maybe it will will rock your world but i returned mine. good luck.

Comments about Gibson Midtown Standard P-90 Electric Guitar:

first the good. it is a beautiful guitar. now the bad. it was way out of shape. neck relief, intonation, pickup adjustment, all bad. i had played the humbucker model in the store but thought it had no mojo. plan B, i thought the P90 version would have more something. sadly it sounded sterile and felt stiff. it's a bad sign when you are immediately trying to plug into differernt amps hoping that some combination would really shine. it's a georgous, well put together, guitar. sadly i spent two score and three clams to return it.

A great limited production guitar. The P90s rock and sound different than single coils or humbuckers. I was expecting a shallow f hole opening, but this is close to being a semi-hollow body...I was impressed. Light weight, can play a long gig with this. And Pelham blue is really unique.

Vintage sunburst is beautiful. This guitar is one of the best values of all time for a Gibson. If you got one before they sold out, consider yourself very fortunate. Great tone, feel, and easy to play. Sounds great plugged or unplugged. I play this on a Super Champ X2 on the clean channel. A walk in the clouds with every strum. Very happy with this purchase, no regrets. If you can buy one used, don't hesitate, get it. And thank you MF for the 150% price match guarantee! You have a customer for life!

BEAUTIFUL Pelham Blue beauty,Out of the box setup was good,But my tech made it GREAT.My P90s in this are HOT-Just like I like em'.Chrome hardware,Cream binding is a nice touch.Neck feels awesome and is comfortable to play standing or sitting.Like a slightly bigger Les Paul Double cut with Semi-Hollow body and F-holes.Even playing acoustically this sounds good with nice projection.Only gripe I have is the inside edges of the F-holes are unfinished in spots.Maybe I'm reaching here,But I expect more from an American Icon Guitar company.Gibson-PLEASE show a little more pride in your work. For all its worth,I DO LOVE the guitar and will be keeping it despite its blems. As other reviews I have seen for this model have some sort of blems also.Limited run for 2012 and going to be discontinued.Blowout price matched- Plus some- from M.F. for the color I wanted with case=Awesome Deal!!!150% price guarantee and they MEAN it!!Forget the rest and BUY here from the best!!!

Comments about Gibson Midtown Standard P-90 Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar, and it makes no sense that Gibson discontinued it. The guitar is really light, hangs well (is not neck heavy), and has a fast neck and low action. The vintage sunburst top looks great, and the fit and finish were flawless to my eye.

Gibson's P90s have a nice growl to them. If anything, the guitar is a little bright, but that's almost certainly the P90s.

My reading is that pepole on the intraweb are debating the pros/cons of this guitar as compared to the 335. The 335 is built differently, the midtown is built much like a chambered les paul, and the 335 is not, but I can't see how that matters. The 335 also has a carved top and is slightly bigger. I've never owned a 335, but this guitar is much less expensive so to me it seems like a no brainer.

I play out with a band 2+ times per month and have owned many guitars in 20+ years of playing and have also sold most of them. I'm not sure I would keep this guitar if it was at full retail, but this holiday the reatilers were selling them deeply discounted.

Comments about Gibson Midtown Standard P-90 Electric Guitar:

Great guitar. Set up out of the box was spot on for me. Love the sound of the P90s. I love the slightly smaller size of the Midtown compared to other ES Gibsons. Vintage Sunburst finish is gorgeous and flawless. The only thing I don't like is the creme pickup covers, but that is an easy swap. Outstanding Gibson for the price. Buy one, and you will not regret it.
