An iconic guitar from the past with upgraded electronics.

The Gibson SG Special '70s Tribute Left-Handed Electric Guitar celebrates a great guitar from the past. It features pickups that have a new magnet and pole piece configuration with dual steel blades and a single Alnico V magnet. This more efficient design makes for improved output at less expense. The calibrated pickup winding offers balanced output in both rhythm and lead positions with increased output on the bridge pickup. Covered with solid chrome, these pickups produce higher output than previous mini humbucking pickups, yet still retain a vintage voice with plenty of chime.

Comments about Gibson SG Special '70s Tribute Left-Handed Electric Guitar:

My first impression out of the box, unfinished. The "satin" cherry looks like its missing a few coats. As the quality checklist indicates that the item passed I have go with it. After just a few minutes in my hand and I knew I had a good quality guitar. I paid a fair price for a nice piece.

Comments about Gibson SG Special '70s Tribute Left-Handed Electric Guitar:

American made quality with innovations to make it as affordable as imported guitars. The satin finish is way more attractive than the "faded" Gibsons of a few years ago. The mini-humbuckers sound great, even with the the redesign for cost savings. The baked maple fretboard is BETTER than rosewood for me, because the grain is much tighter and has more of an ebony-like feel. It even darkens up well when treated with a fretboard cleaner. The pick guard is single ply, but its thick... shouldn't have to worry about cracks.
There was one significant problem with the electronics. The ground on the neck pickup was not functioning, so when I would touch it, it sounded like bacon frying. Checked the wiring and found nothing wrong. I took the neck pickup out, found nothing visibly wrong, but when I re-installed the pickup it somehow found ground and has worked ever since. Weird. Hopefully just an anomaly. High quality bridge and tuners. Not the prettiest guitar, but I don't care about cosmetics. The body
is made up of two pieces of mahogany. The neck is maple, which is a much harder/stronger wood than mahogany, and may be less prone to breaking if it ever takes a fall. They even added the volute on it, making it that much stronger. Very good idea.
Gibson is known for their high quality and even higher prices, but with this guitar they were able to make a high quality LEFT HANDED instrument at a very reasonable price. A fantastic value! Get one now before they're gone!

Comments about Gibson SG Special '70s Tribute Left-Handed Electric Guitar:

Ok so this will be a normal short and sweet review of this sg. The edges are a bit sharp but not too bad. The neck thickness feels great and the wood is of a high quality. This is definitely a no frills guitar. The pickups are good but am swapping out the bridege pickup for a seymour duncan sm3. I already have a les paul with it and it changes the whole sound in a full kinda way. Its very light and thin and the baked maple definitely feels soft and is totally fun to play. I actually got it for around 500 which is a steal in my mind. Us lefties out there don't have much to go with but this guitar is a good start. To own a gibson at a good price is quite rare. Solid Axe!

Comments about Gibson SG Special '70s Tribute Left-Handed Electric Guitar:

A Very nice finish on this silver burst color. The only thing that makes this guitar a "special" is probably because of the no binding on the neck and the logo is a silk screened. It has an early 70's style block inlays, and a larger headstock(with volute). You can get some great tones with these newly designed mini humbuckers. The baked maple fretboard feels good and fast and it feels just as good as a rosewood. It's kind of ridiculous that so many people dismiss the baked maple so easily. After all, some of the most celebrated strats and teles have a maple fretboard. These guitars are probably going out of production already so get one soon if you are a lefty. Thanks Gibson for making yet another fine guitar for us southpaws!
