Light weight, incredible playability, and the tone that launched a billion riffs. Now it tunes itself!
With the PowerTune System, this Les Paul can tune itself precisely and automatically within seconds. It stores personal tuning preferences and makes them available for easy implementation at the push of a button.
The PowerTune System brings a real innovation to the marketplace that promises to banish, once and for all, the tuning problems guitarists and bass players often have. The system consists of 3 components that can automatically tune all strings according to prescribed settings in less than 5 seconds. Major modification of the instrument is no longer required. A control knob that enables the tuning to be programmed replaces the volume control. The player can choose from normal tuning patterns right up to the most diverse range of open tunings. The programmed instructions are implemented by tuners equipped with tiny electric motors. As the motorized tuners adjust the tuning, the pitch of the string is monitored by means of the tune-control bridge. Electrical power for the tuning mechanism is supplied via the guitar strings.
The SG Standard takes the best of the '62 original and adds the longer and sturdier neck joint of the late '60s models. All the classic features you'd expect from a historic guitar. Hot humbuckers go from rich, sweet lightning to warm, tingling waves of sustain. A silky-fast rosewood fretboard plays like a dream. The original-style beveled mahogany body looks like a million bucks. Plus, there's a tune-o-matic bridge and chrome hardware. Limited lifetime warranty. Includes hardshell case.
A Little SG History
In 1961, the Les Paul was redesigned with a thinner body and 2 sharp cutaway horns that making the upper frets more accessible while lowering production costs. The new guitar was popular, but Les Paul the guitarist did not like it and asked to have his name removed. Gibson renamed the model the "SG" which was short for "solid guitar". Though Les Paul's name was officially removed from the model in 1961, the plastic Les Paul nameplates (positioned between the rhythm pickup and fingerboard) were in abundance in the Gibson factory and SG models having these nameplates were built and sold by Gibson up to end of 1963. SGs have been the choice of world-class artists such as Pete Townsend, Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi, and Angus Young.
