I bought an ASAT Classic in 2009 when I was playing in a Country band from San Antonio on a cruise ship out of Alabama. Anyone who has ever done a cruise gig knows the importance of having an instrument that you can count on every night for 4-5 hours. It must be durable and have a great, versatile sound. Although this a Country twang machine, I have also used it for jazz and rock/pop sets as well as major production shows. I did that for about three years on an ASAT Classic. By far the best guitar I've ever owned. Not even a HINT of an issue the entire time I was out there. I even quit bring a back up on my last two contracts. Once, just to see how long I could go, I didn't change the strings until one broke. A month. I mean, a month of every single night playing a full on bar gig with some fabulous players during Spring break season. That included six deck party nights (outdoors in the humid, salty air). I FINALLY snapped the small E on the very last song (Enter Sandman) of the last set of the last show of that cruise. Perfect timing ;) Unbelievable tone. The other guitarist/fiddle player in the band had a '52 Fender Tele Reissue, which is also a fine instrument. But any discrepancy in who had the superior instrument was terminated when we switched instruments one night. I spent that whole night smiling, listening to this amazing guitarist sound better than I'd ever heard just because he was using the ASAT. Seriously, I am no sales man, this is totally legit, do yourself a favor and get one. I promise you won't regret it.

This is a G&L ASAT CLASSIC, it's a nice piece of wood, mine is Blond with a swamp ash body a birds eye maple neck and rose wood fretboard. Here the rub, the neck and body don't fit as well as they could, some space between the body and the neck joint, no big deal just it could have been a lot tighter. I've seen cheap guitars with tighter nick joints. Another thing, the fretts wern't that well dressed, I took care of that my self with some steel wool. The most important thing it, this guitar is a great player, better sounding than I thought it would be, the MFD pickups are fastastic sounding for a ceramic type pickup. They are almost as hot as the P-90's in my Goldtop but have a bit more highend bite and are super for twang, not so good for Jazz, clean Blues leads like the kind I usually play sound better with this guitar than my '62 Strat and almost as warm as the Goldtop. The tone control works smooth from bright right down to a muddy bottom end, nice! In all it's the best sounding Tele I've ever owned, the other 3 were all Fender's and all fine guitars. I've been playing 45 years and this guitar is my back up guitar for stage gigs and is getting lot's of use in the studio. Try one for your self.

Comments about G&L ASAT Classic Electric Guitar:
Great guitar! Far nicer than any Tele's in this price range. The case is very nice as well. Unfortunately, it arrived with a smashed pickup selector switch... good thing my soldering skills are up to snuff. I just replaced it myself rather than sending it back and waiting for another. For what it's worth, I'm sure it didn't leave G&L like that. Other than the busted switch, it exceeds expectations in every regard.

Great playability Tone and looks..LEO was the man!!
Just bought a slightly used 2011 G&L ASAT..Butterscotch Ash Body Gun Oil tinted maple neck..A BEAUTY!!..But the looks are only the beginning!! The tone is clear and well defined, with much less hum than you would get from an F brand Tele!! My band played a gig over the weekend, we do a mix of ballads blues and originals..The guitarist from the country band that followed us was asking me where I got that "Sweet guitar" I was grinning from ear to ear! G&L RAWKS!!
Comments about G&L ASAT Classic Electric Guitar:
I bought this guitar in new 1999, and have played it regularly ever since. I have the orange one that's in the picture, with the gun oiled birds eye neck. After 12 years, this guitar still blows my mind. Paired with a Fender Twin it has to be as close to a perfect tonal combination that ever existed. I regularly get comments about the tone from people who hear it. It is quality built, with fantastic pickups. I would play this all the time if it weren't for it's distinctive sound, which doesn't work for everything, but it's not the guitar's fault. About a year ago the pickup selector knob did come off, but I put it right back on and its stayed put ever since. Also, the small hex screws elevating the brass saddles need periodic adjustment because they do drift from vibration and strumming. I don't see these points as faults, just periodic maintenance stuff that all guitars will need over time. I've always wondered why I don't see more bigger names playing this guitar, it is fantastic in every respect, and worth a lot more than price.
Comments about G&L ASAT Classic Electric Guitar:
This is simply the most versatile, expressive guitar I've ever played. Paired with a Fender Hot Rod Deville 410 III, I can get any sound I want.
The MFD pickups on this guitar are like nothing I've heard before. The cleans are crystal clear. The individual tones come through clearly even when the amp is dirtied up and overdriven, The neck pickup isn't muddy, just a little mellower than the bridge pickup. Easily adjustable action gets you right where you need to be.
I'm really happy with this guitar. It does everything I want.
Comments about G&L ASAT Classic Electric Guitar:
The G&L ASAT classic is my go to guitar for gigging. It is so well balanced and comfortable to play. On top of that, it sounds fantastic. It sounds like a fender telecaster, but much more versatile. Its warm when you want it to be warm, and sharp when you want it to be sharp. My only very small problem with this guitar is that the pickup switch falls off pretty easily, and the intonation screws on mine are loose. These problems were easily fixed and this thing is just awesome. Pick one up!
Comments about G&L ASAT Classic Electric Guitar:
Mine is blonde with the gun tint maple neck. The finish is absolutely perfect. The C neck feels smooth and fast. The pickups are hotter than a Tele, very responsive, with the body giving off a ton of sustain. The factory setup was very good. This is a very simple guitar, with great tone, workmenship and a great value.
Comments about G&L ASAT Classic Electric Guitar:
If you are looking for a tele style guitar, with all of it's simplicity and wonderful tone, a guitar that stays in tune and resonates forever, a fast and solid feeling neck, complex pickup over/undertones, a guitar with lots of power (more that a regular tele I believe), a beautiful guitar and tight guitar, a very well balanced guitar, and a guitar designed by Mr. Fender.... Then you have arrived. Welcome.
Comments about G&L ASAT Classic Electric Guitar:
I have always been a die hard fender guy, I was looking for a telecaster style guitar with a more warmer, fuller sound than my 52 re-issue. I found one in the ASAT Classic. This guitar is amazing. It reminds me of the Schecter guitars Pete Townshend used to play in the early 1980s in terms of sound. In other words, more like a Les-Tele style sound. The guitar has fantastic string balance and the pickups offer perfect sustain when using overdrive. The build quality is superior, I will put it up against Fender Custom Shop anyday. These are absolute jewels of guitars.
Comments about G&L ASAT Classic Electric Guitar:
This guitar is everything a Telecaster wishes it could be. The tone is to die for. Everyone that hears it comments on how great it plays. I use the bridge pup 99% of the time and it has never let me down. There are no dead spots along the entire fingerboard. EVERY note I hit comes out loud and clear. I can't say that about my Fender Strat. That is a good guitar but has a couple dead spots where the notes die. This ASAT is going to become my go to guitar from now on. I'm so glad I got it. The fit and finish are perfect. My guitar has a super tight neck joint. I can't even get a thin piece of paper in there. It's rock solid. The finish is as good as I've ever seen. The maple fingerboard is beautiful with the aged lacquer on it. The grain of the body is gorgeous under the transparent butterscotch finish. The black guard looks great. I love this guitar. I'd give it a 5 if it had a better case. The one that comes with it is just a notch up from a gig bag. But then again, I knew that going into the deal. I didn't buy it for the case it comes in. I bought it for it's playability and tone, which are there in spades. What can I say? I love this guitar!
