OVERVIEW

A classic in a limited-edition finish.

The G&L ASAT Classic Bluesboy is a factory-modded version of the traditional single-cutaway bolt-on axe. For players looking for the unmistakable warmth of a classic humbucker in the neck position, the Bluesboy delivers with a well-balanced pairing of a G&L alnico humbucker and a single-coil G&L Magnetic Field Design bridge pickup.

Framed in a classic boxed-steel bridge, the single-coil alnico bridge pickup delivers crisp attack with complex harmonics while individual brass saddles offer modern levels of intonation refinement. Flip to the neck ‘bucker and you’ll discover all the charismatic warmth you could ask for. Put them together and you’ll enjoy a whole new level of pleasure.

The Tribute Series ASAT Classic Bluesboy is dripping with mojo at a price attainable for every working musician. This model comes in a special limited-edition finish with a 3-ply white pickguard and maple fretboard. Once you play a G&L Tribute Series, you’ll never look back. Case sold separately.

This is the best deal out there on a great bluesboy. The color looks more like pelham blue than turquoise and is stunning. The neck pickup is clear and articulate great for jazz / blues / rhythm. The bridge pickup is alnico and more tele sounding than other bluesboy models. Middle position is a good balance of these two pickups. I think the two tonal differences provide alot more sound options than the normal humbucker in the neck and mfd in the bridge. Also from what i have seen this is the only bluesboy (solid or semi hollow tribute series ) G&L ever produced that has the humbucker/alnico combination. All others have been humbucker / mfd combo. Neck finish is perfect and setup was great from the start.

I'm pretty disappointed. Thought I got a great deal when this went on sale, looked so good and couldn't wait to get my hands on it and play it. It arrived well packaged and when I first opened up the carton I was very pleased. Not a seafoam or surf green like it looks in the picture but more a sparkly light blue. I had a Fender Stratocaster this color once and loved it. When I got to inspecting it I noticed something didn't quite look right. The bridge was a bit crooked. Didn't notice it from about ten feet away but up close but it did not line up with the pickguard. The bridge was in the cutout on one side and clearly out of the cutout on the other. Also the tone control knob was loose, the knob itself was defective I confirmed by switching it with the volume. If it was just the knob I would have replaced it but with the bridge being crooked I just couldn't look past it. I never even plugged it in, had to return it.

I used to hate Tele's.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic BluesBoy Electric Guitar:

Let me start off by saying there's a little gap between the neck and pocket around the sides (my friend says that's room for adjustment), and the finish is mirror like but a bit thick. The unfinished neck at first seemed like a new baseball bat. Then I plugged it in and fell in love. After a few days the neck polishes off to a nice silky smooth feel. The fretwork is excellent and the neck is very comfortable. I absolutely love the tone of this guitar. The bridge is classic Tele twang. Bridge has a full sound you'd expect from a humbucker, but it's the middle position I love. Such a beautiful sound I wouldn't care if it had come with the head stock half broken off I would have kept it. The finish and setup were perfect on arrival. Action was as low as possible with no buzzes unless your heavy handed . Bought it for around 300
as Stupid deal of the day. If it was stolen I would buy it again at regular price if I had too. Can't recommend this guitar enough. I have 8 guitars and many more through the years and can't remember finding such a quality guitar at this price.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic BluesBoy Electric Guitar:

My first copy of the Tribute ASAT Bluesboy was a open box. When I received the open box, I found no marks or scratches and the guitar player so well, but something was wrong. I finally realized the bridge was badly misaligned. It was so bad that the strings were crossing the bridge Pup at the edge of the magnets. The volume of the strings on the bridge Pup were much lower than the neck Pup. A fatal flaw that isn't worth fixing. Musician's Friend was greàt and accepted the return and paid for shipping. I decided to get a new Tribute ASAT Bluesboy instead of an open box version. When the new guitar arrived, I noticed immediately the bridge was much straighter and the strings were running over the bridge Pup center. A far better copy than the open box I originally received. So if you receive a copy of this guitar and it has defects, you should return it and get another. My second Bluesboy is a great guitar. I have a USA Fender Highway One Texas Telecaster and this G&L Tribute rivals the Fender USA quality in sound, playability and looks. The G&L Tribute offers incredible value for the money and blows away the MiM Fenders. The sound of the two Bluesboy Pups together is incredible. The range of sounds is amazing as well since you've got a single coil with plenty of spank at the bridge and a nice warm double coil at the neck. The guitar could probably benefit from a setup due to the nut height and intonation, but at this price range that is to be expected. Overall this is a fantastic guitar at a great price. Don't hesitate to buy.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic BluesBoy Electric Guitar:

This is my third G&L tribute - I have an Ascari P-90 and a Legacy Strat. The BluesBoy was on the SDOTD at a great price as many of the tributes are often foound. All have been excellent values, though only the Ascari didn't need a setup (likely due to the glued-in neck). I don't consider this a con - if you don't like taking a chance on setup, don't buy guitars on the web. Fortunately this is an easy guitar to set up - all the hardware is solid, decent quality and works well. Mine needed a tweak of the truss rod and some minor intonation adjustments. It also needed some polishing of the frets (and some filing on the ends which is needed on practically all imports that weren't set up in the US). I find the tones very versatile. I wish it had a coil split but I knew that before buying and it's not a hard (or expensive) mod. The finish is gorgeous - my Legacy Strat is Candy Apple Red and this is a similar look in Turquoise (a subtle metalflake look). I had returned my first Legacy Strat because of neck alignment issues that couldn't easily be corrected but there's no such problem here. It's my only maple necked guitar (though I have played many). It does indeed make for a snappy, bright tone (even on the humbucker). You can make righteous country tones but it rocks with the best of them. one other reviewer complained about the tone difference between bridge and neck pickups but in my opinion that's the whole point of this configuration on a tele. It may be a master of none but it is a jack of all trades which is why I bought it. One star off for the slightly rough frets and ends but the other fixes and adjustments were easy and not unexpected. I'd only knock off 1/2 star if I could. Highly recommended and a fantastic value for the discounted price.

Sloppy craftsmanship

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic BluesBoy Electric Guitar:

The fret wires were sharp on the edges, and rough, so they snagged the strings, and did not feel good. The pickups sounded good. Returned it, and the replacement came with slightly less rough fret wires that still felt gritty when bending, the pickups didn't sound as good as on the first one, and there was fret glue smeared on the fret board at one point, aaaand the nut at the headstock is wider than the neck, so that is another sharp overhang that shouldn't be. It would be ok for a first guitar, but one of a higher quality could be found at a lower price. Their American-made line is great, but this tribute series, not so much.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic BluesBoy Electric Guitar:

This guitar sounds and plays awesome right out of the box. The neck and fret board has a higher end field to it. The pickups sound great with no noise sound, very clean tones coming out. overall this guitar sounds and plays as good or better than my higher end guitars. I read the reviews, this guitar is worth every penny. The only thing is it may be a little heavy for someone small. The workman ship is just stunning on this guitar. I am in my late 50s and have played guitar since I was 10 years old. If you like the telecaster feel and want something a little different this guitar is for you! Thanks!

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic BluesBoy Electric Guitar:

Absolutely the best guitar in this price range I've seen. Pickups sound good. Decent tonal range. Stays in reasonable tune with the stock tuners and plays like a real tele. Feels like a much more expensive guitar and looks gorgeous. First G&L I've owned and they've made quite an impression. Some lower priced guitars are just plain cut down so much quality wise they are nothing but constant pain. G&L obviously does the best they can to give you a decent guitar at a moderate price.

I received this guitar as a gift for xmas and have been blown away since unboxing it. In the middle position, the guitar absolutely chimes. Paired with my EHX Turnip Greens and Hot Rod Deluxe it produces one of the best tones I have heard on a guitar. Period.

Build quality is questionable but sounds surprisingly good.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic BluesBoy Electric Guitar:

Not even close to the color advertised. The neck is set a few millimeters off from the joint causing an overlap on the treble side where the neck sets in the groove and causes a gap on the bass side between the neck and body. Going to be used as a beater guitar.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic BluesBoy Electric Guitar:

I own many guitars, a couple US G&L, US Strats, 335 Gibson, Godin, Epiphones and more, my main work horse is a US custom B-Bender Telecaster, my back up is a mexican Fenders Telecaster (Swirl)
I have 12 years of touring experience across North America, mostly Canada but also the US and have been retired off the road since 1993.

I'm in my 50s and consider myself an experienced player with above average skill. I've played through Fender, Peavey, Marshall and other amps, I have some of these on a shelf ready for use but now use a Roland Cube 80, it has a lot to offer in a small package. I've seen the abuse the road does to gear and appreciate a good guitar and amp. Though it is solid state, I get what I want and I don't miss any tube like qualities, especially when playing in a band.

This G&L Blueboy is a pleasure to play, the neck is lacquer free and feels great, the frets feel like a little bit could use slight filling on the edges but it does not affect my play whatsoever. I own the hollow body Bluesboy and was waiting to get this one should a deal come along. It is above my expectations, the color is great and fits with the 50s band I work with, It has all the spank a Tele needs to play in the Country band I also play for. I tend to use the mid position for most of my playing, it gives me a bright and full sound all at once, it has both Fender Telecaster qualities and Gibson as well from the Humbucker neck pickup, the tone knob can help dial in what you look for. I also have my own band which plays anything from Jimi Hendrix to Merle. This guitar can do it all and can be a main work horse, I recommend this G&L Bluesboy based on the one I received. At this time, I've been using the Bluesboy to play with both the 50s and the Country bands, come time to do my show with my band, I will probably go back to my Fender custom as I am so familiar with it. I do think the Bluesboy will become my back up and possibly steal the show. I hope this is helpful.
