OVERVIEW

Gorgeous tonewoods, bolt-on maple neck and G&L pickups.

One look and you know this ASAT is killer. It's fired up with twin chrome-covered alnico humbuckers - designed by G&L's Paul Gagon - mounted in a bound, flame maple-topped mahogany body (swamp ash on Butterscotch Blonde). This new axe takes the iconic ASAT further into heavy territory while retaining the feel and playability that have made the ASAT a perennial favorite among players.

The ASAT Deluxe Carved Top sports an easy-playing 1-5/8" nut-width neck, a classic C-shaped back and 12" fingerboard radius to make deep bends a breeze. Holding it down on the other end is a G&L Saddle Lock bridge designed by Leo Fender for comfort and singing sustain. The Gagon-designed pickups are split via a push/pull tone pot to offer everything from jangly single-coil tones to gritty blues to scorching leads. Case sold separately.

I just bought the cherry sunburst and it looks stunning! The flamed maple top is to die for ! The looks and feel rivals my US Tele and it complements my cherry sunburst Les Paul marvelously. The carved top/humbuckers combination is ideal. Even unplugged the guitar sounds great. I mostly play hard rock and classic rock with it and with the proper amp setting it sounds great ! Lots of sustain and in my opinion good definition from these pups.

The split coil option makes this instrument a very versatile one. When splitting the bridge pick up there is a significant and normal volume drop. It does not equal the brightness and tone my tele bridge pickup (in my case Alnico II) but still does the trick if called upon. This is perfect for a little venue where you don't have room to bring many guitars.

The only downfall was that the action was pretty high out from the box. Nothing a little setup won't fix.

This guitar is a great asset to any rig and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a great versatile instrument without breaking the bank. Did I mentioned that it looks stunning… ;)

I had the same experience as "weekend warrior." The high E string kept falling off the fretboard when using any vibrato or bending of the string. The guitar is also noticeably neck-heavy, and you have to compensate for that while playing. Guitar needed a set up, and I ran into a couple of frets that were high around the 11 - 13th fret area, so I couldn't get the strings as low as I really wanted. Tone in the coil-split mode was muddy. I am a long term, regular customer of MF, and enjoy their products. Sadly, this one had to be returned.... Would not recommend this guitar.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar for a practice/backup guitar but decided as soon as I played it that I will be getting rid of my Stratocaster American Deluxe and buying another G&L. I love this guitar, I have the ASAT Tribute Deluxe Carved Top in transparent black and it looks pretty awesome! Sounds great, very easy to play.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar:

I originally bought it for my teenage kids to play on so they wouldn't damage some of my more expensive guitars (e.g. PRS and an American Strat). However, when it arrived, I liked it so much I started playing it more and more. The neck just fit my hand better than any of my other guitars and I liked the size of the frets... it just felt really good to play. I started making it the main guitar I found myself picking up all the time (and I quickly told my kids we would need to find a different guitar for them). :-) I have the Cherry Sunburst finish and it's very attractive. The fit and finish was excellent -- it came with zero flaws or defects of any kind. The fret and overall setup was first rate -- the frets were nice and level and the ends were nicely dressed. The bridge has a great feel to it... nice and solid under your right hand and is great for palm muting. The coil tap is a great feature that gives you a wide range of sounds. The pickups are a little on the hot side, but I like it that way -- it's still easy to get nice clean tones. Given what these sell for, it's a steal... I highly recommend them!

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar and this is my first initial impression out-of-the-box. I like the design and the general build of the guitar. It's rather lightweight, but not lightweight enough to turn me off. I'd say it's probably around 7.5 pounds...it's lighter than my other Fender Tele. For this price range, sure it's a decent guitar. But as with any guitar of this range, you should be purchasing with the intent to enhance the guitar (as I do) if you're actually looking for a good guitar. The finish is attractive to me. The neck feel I like. The knobs are good, and I like the saddle lock bridge. The pickups aren't bad but are not great pickups obviously. Now the Nut on the guitar is horrendous. The tuners are just basic whatever tuners. The fretboard is DRY, not a lush rich wood. The coil-tap is always welcome. With all that said, I did get what I expected to get. Before I even bought it I had my modifications planned. I'm going to be putting on locking tuners, probably some roller saddles, i'll rehydrate the fretboard with some oils. I'm going to have a bone nut carved for the guitar and installed. I'll invest and install some better quality pickups for sure. I'll probably replace some of the electronic components. Get a proper set-up with a fret level and crown. I wouldn't say it's a bad guitar, it has potential as with most guitars. But don't expect to be super impressed for this price out of the box. The set-up on my guitar from the box was not very good. At the end of the day, i'll be another 400 deep into this guitar with customizations, but that was my plan. Over-all, cool guitar. Not worth more than this price. If you want a good playing guitar then be prepared to modify.

I bought the orange-ish finshed ASAT carve top, it looks much better in person and after a good cleaning and polish. I had my heart set on their Red or Black see thru but this was all I could land and I am 100
% satisfied. Great sounds from the cut switch hummers. Much better than ever expected. You won't be disappointed. Thanks to G&L and Musicians Friend for all of their great help.

Bought this on the SDOD and WOW very impressed at the workmanship sound and overall play-ability. Been playing my fist G&L which is a G&L S-500 for over 20 years now, madly in love with that Axe but the darn thing is 20 lbs so i needed something lighter and G&L was what I was looking for. Even though these are mass produced unlike my s-500 was they still play and sound great, moreover for the low $$$ can't go wrong.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar:

I got this as an open box blemish purchase, and had to look hard for the blemish. The set up was non existent and it might have have been useful for slide right out of the box, but... Twenty minutes, a strobe tuner, and a couple of tools later, it was as good as anything I've ever picked up up. The set up was easy, the neck was already good, and everything worked.

I chose this instrument because I needed something replaceable that I didn't have to worry about, that could cover a lot of sonic ground. And it fits all of those parameters.

I thought I'd prefer being able to manipulate tone and coil tap on each pup individually (partly because it's what I'm already accustomed to), but the simpler set up seems to work fine. Especially since I wind up in situations where I'm setting tone on the fly. On the down side, I find it hard to change pups quickly without fouling the knobs, and pulling the tone pot to get the coil tap doesn't happen quickly or easily for me. But the coil tap issue is no different that my other instruments with that feature, so I guess I can't complain too much about that.

As to sound, for the type jobs I use this instrument on, I use amp modelling and generally run a Digitech RP 500, or an older Floor POD through 100 watt EarlT amp (engine) that has only an on off switch. With the proper set up on the front end, this instrument can do Buck Owens twang with the coil tap, and go to FFDP heavy with a couple of footswitches and removing the coil tap. And it covers a whole lot of ground in between. Which is exactly what I was looking for.

It's not going to "replace" a Strat or a 335, but it will cover what you need and give you the added plus of having it's own voice to mold as you like. All in all, a great addition to the arsenal.

After owning several Gibsons, Fenders, Silvertones, ect. this is my new favorite. The only issue is I had to adjust the truss rod due to string buzz. This was the very first time I've adjusted a truss rod but with an allen wrench and a video from youtube, EVEN I WAS ABLE TO DO IT! Even with the truss rod issue that seems kinda common it's SO WORTH THE MONEY. It is well made with good finishes. Mine was made in Indonesia and has the quality of a Gibby made right there in Tenn.
