OVERVIEW

Gorgeous carved top, bolt-on maple neck and G&L pickups.

The G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar features twin chrome-covered G&L Alnico humbuckers mounted in a flame maple-topped mahogany body. This axe takes the iconic ASAT further into heavy territory while retaining the feel and playability that have made the ASAT a perennial favorite among players.

The ASAT Deluxe Carved Top sports an easy-playing 1-5/8 nut-width neck, a classic C-shaped back and 12 fingerboard radius to make deep bends a breeze. Holding it down on the other end is a G&L Saddle Lock bridge designed by Leo Fender for comfort and singing sustain. The Gagon-designed pickups are split via a push/pull tone pot to offer everything from jangly single-coil tones to gritty blues to scorching leads.

The ASAT Deluxe Carved Top is just what many ASAT fans have been waiting for: an affordable, well-made alternative to the Fullerton-made G&L ASAT Deluxe.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar:

I was looking for the traditional 2 humbucker sound without going to Gibson or Epi. Coil split or tap was also important. Every element on this guitar does what it is supposed to do. The tuners tune, the pickup selector makes it sound like 3 different guitars, the coil tap makes it sound like 2 additional guitars (Twang and almost an acoustic like sound) and the bridge is the backbone of the whole thing. The tone controls actually make a difference when you turn them. Our worship pastor asked me to do some slide arrangements and I had just received this; it sounded excellent but I liked the sounds so much I bought an Epi special 1 (P 90s) and set it up for slide and kept this gem and set it up for standard play. I have been debating going to 9s but don't want to lose any of these tones that I have found. I have learned in the last 10 years that when I buy a guitar that "Does everything" it does not do any of them as well as the real deal, but this is close to a desert island guitar for me. Joe Pass, Joe Bonamassa, Joe Don Rooney, Joe Walsh; You name it (As longs as it's a Joe) this guitar does a lot. It is not as physically comfortable as my US Strat (Leo was an absolute genius)or Carvin AE 185 or even Fender Teles I have owned for that matter, but it is ok in that area.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar:

I've played in bands, done some recording, owned multiple brands and owned several guitars over the years - but I was blown away by this guitar right out of the box. You can use this guitar for anything. The amazing feel and sound and quality are second to none. I own a Telecaster and directly compared them - and this ASAT Deluxe is several steps beyond. Leo definitely put his heart and soul into this guitar.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar:

I have been buying guitars since the 80,s and would never had considered a telecaster. Just never liked them. But my brother-in-law has been shopping for one so when this came up on blowout I bought it for him. I have now had this guitar for two weeks and he is not getting this guitar. It plays and sounds better than most guitars in the high end range. I love it.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar:

First, I got this guitar on a Stupid Deal of the Day, so I figured that I couldn't go too wrong at the bargain basement price they were offering. When the guitar arrived, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the finish was. My expectation of a matte finish, similar to the faded Les Paul's was completely wrong. The beautiful wood was covered with a glass-smooth gloss coat. Right out of the box, this guitar looked worlds better than any of the photos. Much to my surprise, the guitar was in tune when I pulled it out of the box. If a guitar can stay in tune when being shipped halfway across the country, that is probably a good sign that it will stay in tune while you are playing it. The fretwork was excellent and the nut seems to be hand-cut piece of synthetic bone, not a mass-produced generic piece of plastic. The action on the guitar felt a touch high at first but, once I started playing it, I found it to be as comfortable as any guitar I own. The tone is excellent for crunchy/overdriven rock. It has a fatness that makes even single note rhythm pieces sound fill and alive. After getting this guitar, I am a new G&L convert. It would be hard to find a better guitar for the money. It would have been a bargain even if I had paid full price.

I got a good deal on the Stupid Deal of the Day. I was hesitant to buy an Indonesian guitar but was pleasantly surprised. I had a bad experience with another well known brand . It was ready to go right out of the box. Tuned it up and started playing! Solid build. Very nice looking guitar. Even a friend with an expensive "other similar brand" was surprised! G&L is the bomb:)

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar:

It would be tough to be much happier about this purchase. Easily the most versatile guitar I've ever owned. All of the tone/pickup/coil split options actually make the tone noticeably different, and they're all very usable. It'll go from mellow to crunchy, and you can get some good twang out of it if you need to. The body finish is beautiful (better than 2 Gibsons I've owned).

My only nitpick is that the neck/headstock finish is really glossy and the color of the wood is really yellow - the headstock looks like it was stolen from a plastic toy.

Setup wasn't great out of the box, but not bad at all. Just tuned it and started playing. I don't feel desperate to go set it up other than fixing the intonation.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar:

I bought this as a jazz and general purpose Tele, and it's perfect. Wide range of tones, including great mellow sounds for jazz. It's probably not your ideal C&W guitar, as it is on the mellow end, but it does have some twang with the bridge pickup (coil tap works great for that single-coil voice). It also has unbelievable sustain due to the bridge design. It's really well made too- I am really happy with the workmanship. Design and execution come together well at G&L. Best of all, it has that unmistakeable Tele sound.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar:

First off, this is a GC/MF exclusive model, according to the official GuitarsByLeo forum.

I'd consider this guitar a modern take on the Telecaster. It's closer to Fender or Gibson in character than all the shredder guitars shaped like Teles.

The carved body is comfortable and light. I wanted a Tele shape with humbuckers, and this fits that niche perfectly. Finish on the neck is smooth, edges are rolled nicely, although it's a bit too glossy on the back. This guitar is neck-heavy, but nowhere near the level of an SG.

The pickups are surprisingly good – clear and full-bodied with medium output, unlike many stock humbuckers which I find to be overly dark or harsh. Single coil tones are good, but I still prefer to use my Strat or Tele for that.

Overall a fantastic guitar and a great option if you want something different than a Fender, but still somewhat similar.
