OVERVIEW

A distinctive jumbo with typical Gretsch panache.

A great Gretsch name is back with the return of G5022CE Rancher Jumbo Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar. The richly resonant Rancher first appeared in the early 1950s with its highly distinctive triangular sound hole and sweepingly elegant pickguard, and Gretsch is now very proud to re-introduce the model. With a great new selection of body sizes, styles and features that combine the best of the guitar's acclaimed past with the best in modern sound, strength, style and playability, Gretsch now gives you the best of all Ranchers.

The biggest and fullest-sounding Rancher is the G5022CE Rancher Jumbo Cutaway Electric, which produces great volume and broadly expansive tone complemented by its elegant Venetian cutaway for easy access to the fingerboard's upper reaches and onboard electronics that let it be heard even more loudly and clearly. Premium features include a solid spruce top with scalloped X bracing and the traditional Gretsch Rancher triangular sound hole, flame maple back and sides, mahogany neck, 21-fret rosewood fingerboard with Neo-Classic thumbnail inlays, 1940s-style pickguard with Gretsch logo, compensated bridge with rosewood base, gold-plated hardware, deluxe die-cast tuners and a classic gloss Savannah Sunset finish. Onboard Fishman electronics include a Sonicore under-saddle pickup and Isys+ preamp system with onboard tuner, battery life indicator and controls for volume, treble, bass and phase.

    Very Disappointed

    Cons

    • Fret Buzz
    • Unplayable
    • Unplayable Belly Bulge

    Best Uses

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5022CE Rancher Jumbo Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I returned the first one because of severe belly bulge that made it unplayable. Musicians Friend send me a 2nd one which I'm quite sure was the first one they sent which I suspect was returned by another customer for the same reason.

The OK card had not been signed by an inspector nor were any of the categories checked. Not sure who was supposed to do a quality check Gretsch/Fender or Musicians Friend.

The tone was decent and the guitar was pretty.

I was disappointed because others have raved about the Gretsch Rancher. This one was made in Indonesia. My guess is that this guitar was made in a hot and humid factory or during shipping or storage it got hot and that is why the top was warped.

When I went to return the first defective one the phone jockey tried to sell me one of those bogus warranties. Hey guys you just sent me a defect product why not throw in a set of strings as a way of saying sorry?

This guitar was sent to me as a gift from someone who owns a Gretsch Rancher and loves it. I can't say if I just got a lemon or the quality control has gone down
the tubes at Gretsch but I think the best thing to say is.. NEVER BUY A GUITAR SIGHT UNSEEN! You are asking for trouble if you do. I read online that the ones made in Indonesia have scalloped bracing or a different bracing pattern (not sure if that's the case) but IMO that is a cause of warped tops.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5022CE Rancher Jumbo Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I wanted a quality acoustic for a fair price. always loved jumbos but never owned one so I took a chance. This thing is beautiful! Right out of the box, it played smooth. I was dreading the set up. seems, I dont need to rush off and get that done. Lots of compliments from my friends... the only bummer is the bottom strap button, it is large, it screws off (thats where you plug in). other then that, it's perfect!!!!!

    A great guitar

    By Dan

    from North Carolina

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5022CE Rancher Jumbo Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have had mine in black for several years now. Finish was tidy, frets were neat. Other than needing a set up for some fret buzz after a few months the guitar has been all I could have asked for. The neck is very comfortable and even though it is a jumbo it does not feel unwieldy at all. Pick up is fine I have used it for playing live and recording all with good results. I love the unique position markers and it is certainly not a guitar you see everywhere. My only complaint is that it does not give as much mid range as I would have expected from a jumbo but of course that is also a matter of tase. Buy one - you will be happy.

    Nice guitar

    Pros

    • Eye Catching Finish
    • Fishman Pickup Nice
    • Great Bottom End
    • Light Weight For A Jumbo
    • Loud And Rich Tone
    • Nice Neck Low Action
    • Sound Thru Crate Amp Good

    Cons

    • Hard to find case
    • Pickup Strap Button Big
    • Slight Ripples In Top

    Best Uses

    • Accoustic Or Amp
    • Finger Picking
    • Large Room

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5022CE Rancher Jumbo Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Would have given it a 5 but for the strap button around the amp jack. It's too large for a standard strap hole. After enlarging the strap hole it didn't feel safe over the shallow groove. I added a circlip to hold the strap on.

Had trouble finding a case to fit the jumbo. Tried many, finally found one.

Played perfect right out of the box. Very happy with all the features. You will be too.
