o.k. , I've been holding off for
close to 3 years now, but will now review. This is one fun guitar to play. It is made in Korea, but it is put together really well. The neck is a real joy to play. look, I've been playing for over thirty years. I am blessed to own Gibsons, Fenders, no names, and Gretches. I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone looking for a hollow body. The stock pups are able to sound clean and easy or down right nasty and dirty, My background? I've been influenced by Iggy and the stooges,The Who, MC5, Ramones, and The Clash. I've spent much time in the studio, on both sides of the glass. Also on the road. I know good sound and good quality when I hear it. If you want to be agressive, then this guitar will suite you well. On the other hand, if you like clean folk or blues, great guitar for these styles too. I play all these styles of music, and have much recording and commercial experiance. Like I said, I have been holding off for three years. I wanted to give this guitar a chance before I submitted a review. For the price, buy it. For you prima donnas moaning about switching out the stock pups. What ever. If you wanted the upgrade, you should have bought it in the first place. Don't waste everybody's time complaining about the pups. They are fine. I have allways purchased guitars for the sound they produce, not for what I think they should sound like. That's why I own so many. My 5120 stays in tune. I've got the orange finish. The wood grain, binding and color is awesome! I've got the clear pickguard. Most object to this pickguard, but I think it looks great. I got a great deal on this guitar, but would have no objections to the price tag or more. You know you want to buy it, so what are you waiting for???

I admit, i bought this guitar a year ago for its looks and the reviews. It has a great sound and playability too. However, the body is made of some very shoddy material. I put it down on my couch and the input jack that plugs into the side punched clean through leaving a hole where the jack was. the tuners are cheap and go out if tune easily. Finally, it seems that everything that screws on to this guitar comes unscrewed. My biggest complaint is the wafer-thin laminate body material. No excuse for that. Sorry, i know you want to hear good things about this beauty. It does have its aforementioned merits.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5120 Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I got the Gretsch G5120 for Christmas, and have only had about an hour to play it since then. But my initial impressions of the guitar are very favorable.

First the obvious things. This guitar is built very nicely, and you will think you are playing a much more expensive instrument. The fit and finish are immaculate. I got mine in white, and it is a stunning thing to look at. Just beautiful!

The less obvious things are the pickups and other hardware. Everything on mine seems to be of very good quality. I have read some reviews where there are complaints about the pickups, but quite honestly, mine are great. I suppose you could switch them out for T.V. Jones pickups, but it isn't really necessary. All the other hardware is quite nice, and I don't think you will be disappointed. I don't know which Korean factory made this instrument, but the quality is right where it should be.

How is the sound? Well, it's danged good, that's all! Seriously, it sounds great clean, super great over-driven, and loud enough acoustically to play by the campfire. Probably the loudest electric I've ever played, when unplugged.

Take a few minutes to watch the very helpful YouTube video from Gretsch regarding how to remove the shipping foam underneath the bridge. I had mine intonated in about 10 minutes. As I said, I've played it about an hour, but I don't see anything glaring that I will need to setup or change. The factory setup is pretty good right out of the box. I may want to make minor changes later, but they would be very minor. Factory setup was much better than average.

I opted for the G6241FT hard case, and I'm really glad I did. It's a high-quality unit, and it's a dead perfect fit for this guitar. Don't hesitate to buy the case, because once you see the G5120 you will realize it deserves to be protected.

Bottom line: Nice, high-quality guitar that sounds great. If you are considering it, believe me, you'll be quite happy after you get it in your hands. Buy the case too, and the white finish is definitely the way to go.

If you want serious Gretsch sound consider buying this guitar and replacing the stock pickups with TV Jones Hi-Lo or Filter Tron pickups. You will instantly give this mid-priced wide body guitar four digit sound without breaking the bank. I did, twice!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5120 Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

..the look on my Buddies face told the story. He had spoken earlier in the year about always wanting a Gretsch since he was a kid but never was able to get one. Through the years he had always loved the George Harrison sound, the Steven Stills sound, etc. and wished he had one. Our family chipped in and he got his wish. Only problem is he reverted back to his teen years and won't put it down(sic).

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5120 Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar six months ago and I love it. I did not buy it to play with distortion but I was surprised, although it does feed back a bit at super high fuzz and gain, the full hollowbody gives the guitar a really mean, punchy sound. The one complaint I have is that two of the screws on the bridge buzz when I play, but this was easily remedied with a bit of masking tape. Also I bought the walnut color and it doesnt look like the picture. It is a dark shiny red, which is beautiful but if it isnt what you want, dont buy the walnut.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5120 Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Wonderful feel, gorgeous looks and great tone. I love this guitar and own fifteen. It's a keeper! The Bigsby is accurate and adds new dimensions to my jazz playing. Tone of the guitar is wide and the action was a little high. I simply lowered it until comfortable. I had a 6117T Anniversary Gretsch but sent it back...wasn't totally happy with the switched electronics for tone. I prefer the G5120, hands down. A quality guitar that I am proud to show, play and record with.

Seriously it was such a great buy, this is my first gretsch and it's tone and playability is like no other, especially for the price, there is nothing like the feel or tone of this bad boy. I have also gotten more compliments on this guitar at my shows than any other and it makes my Marshall Half sound better than it has ever sounded. Great buy. GET IT.
