The G5435T plays fine and set up is great right out of the sealed Gretsch carton. The fret work is very
good. The pickups have a cool and unique sound. I was glad to get one untouched by in store hands.
The overall quality, form fit and finish is outstanding for the price.
I have more expensive guitars but enjoy playing the G5435T just as much.

Side note: Added a .001uf "bleeder" capacitor to the master volume so the volume output remains
consistent throughout the control sweep eliminating the bassy muffle sound at lower volume setting.
I will tweak the Bigsby a bit when I change strings by lubing the nut and bridge saddle with a bit of
light oil. That and setting in new strings so not to bind on contact surfaces. I have a "wedge"
method for installing new strings on the pins to keep each in place while winding the new string.

The Gretsch tone is consistently the tone I strive for- so much of my favorite music comes from the Gretsch Filtertron sound. I bought this guitar knowing it wouldn't be the tone I'd expect from a guitar in the professional line- but hopeful that it would do until I could afford a "proper" Gretsch. I was happy when I first plugged it in. It sounded great- and the feel/playability was great. My enthusiasm quickly waned, however- when I realized I couldn't get through 5 minutes of play without having serious tuning issues. The "Bigsby" on this guitar is worthless and bending by more than 1/2 step throws that string out of tune. I could have spent 100s upgrading and fixing the tuning problems- but I don't have it in me. I consider this a huge fail on Gretsch's part. As much as I like the looks and feel of this guitar- the tuning issue is a deal breaker and I'm sending it back.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5435T Electromatic Pro Jet w/Bigsby Electric Guitar:

When I first layed my eyes on this twang-machine, the Les Paul-like qualities of it made it seem like it should have a bit of low-end growl to it. The first time I plugged it in, however, I realized that this puppy is a Gretsch to the bone.

First the bad because frankly there is not much of it:

- I had a real problem with loose knobs and switches (like falling off while I was playing). Easily fixed, though, so no big deal.
- The Bigsby is just plain unusable because of the tuners and the nut. I lubricated the nut, which helped a little, but you can only do so much with bad tuners. The strange part is that if you don't use it (the trem), it stays in perfect tune forever. I'll check back after I replace them.
- The controls are just... bizarre. After playing this guitar for several months, I still find myself turning knobs trying to figure out exactly what they do. Some do a lot. Some seem to do nothing at all, or very little.

That being said though, what a great guitar!:
- Right out of the box it played pretty close to perfectly. The neck is thick, but it plays very fast and with no buzz (I use 10's on this guitar).
- The work on the glued-in neck is wonderful, especially for a guitar at this price-point (I don't know about that MSRP though).
- The body seems like it's going to be heavy when you look at it(that Les Paul thing again), but the routed-out basswood body keeps the weight down. It's still not light, but it won't break your back.
- It's got loads of the Gretsch kitsch aesthetic. This is one funky axe!

Unplugged, it's very loud, a great guitar to practice with. Good sustain. The pick-ups seem to be ok, although I'll probably upgrade them as soon as I get up the gumption.

The tone is somewhat mid-rangy and clean, and perfect for twangy rockabilly and electric country. A real pleasure to play, although you'll need a strap to sit down with it.

Great guitar for Rockabilly, Punk, alt, really anything but metal (and even then it does ok, just doesn't look the part).

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5435T Electromatic Pro Jet w/Bigsby Electric Guitar:

I've had the guitar a week, a gold ProJet G5435T.

The fit and finish is above par for a guitar at this grade level. The filtertrons are very very nice pickups, they fall between single and hummer with a touch of p-90. Very strong.

The neck is a breeze to play, the med-jumbo frets are very good, and bending and vibrato is just as effortless as my PRS McCarty.

The tuners are just ok. I'm not a modder, but this would be an upgrade area if I was. They don't slip, they just don't have much mass.

THe Bigsby, well there it is. It's terrible. Very very unresponsive, but I am a 40 yr. strat player so thats probably my issue.

The control assembly of knobs is very confusing, I had to research and print off detailed discriptions of exactly what each one does, and they still don't match up.

THe finish is perfect, not sparkly or LP gold, more of a coppery gold that is very warm.

All in all an exceptional guitar if they would place the bigsby back about 4 inches to facilitate easier operaton.

Stays in tune, nut needs some lube, jack plug was loose, shouldn't be on a 6 bones guitar.

Past that, a stellar sounding and playing instrument.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5435T Electromatic Pro Jet w/Bigsby Electric Guitar:

This was my second guitar to a standard strat and to be honest I never intended to love this guitar as much as the strat. When I first got it I immediately loved the Blacktop Filter'Tron humbuckers Gretch offered us. (though soon I changed them) This guitar of course doesn't sound like a real high end Gretch but it's getting closer and closer. Now I use this guitar as a recording and practice guitar, but for all those guitarist who wants a decent guitar for this price range, don't hesitate on getting your hands on the pro jet. It is worth the money you are paying. Have fun with this baby and God bless.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5435T Electromatic Pro Jet w/Bigsby Electric Guitar:

I ordered this guitar from MF but it was backordered for weeks so I decided to purchase one from a music store in Texas. The owner set it up for me prior to shipping. It is a brand new 2011 gold Pro Jet. It's been sitting in his store for a few years and was perfect when I received it.
This guitar is solid--nice tone, nice hardware, and looks amazing. The weight is perfect, not too heavy, not too light. The sound is, well, it's Gretsch. Not a single coil sound, not a humbucker sound (although they are mini humbuckers) but something altogether different. I love it. No matter what you play--rock, blues, jazz, you will love this axe. I did replace the tuners with locking tuners (Gotoh). I use 9.5s and have no problem whatsoever with the Bigsby. I don't dive bomb so it is perfect for me. I have had it about a month and it's all I play. Now I am going to save up for a 2K Gretsch!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5435T Electromatic Pro Jet w/Bigsby Electric Guitar:

I am a lifelong bassist and felt the need to stretch myself and get a guitar. Acoustics have crazy high action so I chose to go electric. I have a friend who has a Gretsch and I knew I couldn't go wrong with this.

Right out of the box it feels great. Learning on this is fun and easy. The action is perfect. The guitar is light and very playable.

I have to concur with a previous review, however. The controls are beyond confusing. Depending on the switch position, any two of the knobs could be volume while the others vaguely control tone. Move the switch again and you are hunting for the right combination.

Almost seems like a set it and forget it kind of deal. You have it set up for one style of play and that is it. My Warwick Infinity bass is so simple, not sure why a guitar a quarter of the price would need a quantum physicist with a minor in string theory to figure out the controls on it.

In all, though, I love it

This is a very nice guitar for a very good price. The guitar is very well made and the finish work is very, very nice. I have the gold top, and it is bueatiful!

The guitar plays as good as it looks - very twangy sound, good fret work, nice neck, etc.

I could not be happier with this guitar - Gretsch did a great job!

This Pro-Jet is one of the best buys on the market. You get a lot more guitar than you are paying for. Surprised it's not priced higher because it is top quality made. The quality of these foreign made guitars is as good if not better than American made at a lot cheaper price. Quality is not sacrificed at all! Not knocking American made but, you are paying a stiff price while robotics do most of the work on American made goods. Roses grow all over the world, not just in America!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5435T Electromatic Pro Jet w/Bigsby Electric Guitar:

This guitar is fantastic ....with some tweaking. Let's get the bad out of the way first. The bridge to bigsby transition is too close so the angle of the strings makes staying in a tune an issue. This is remedied by getting the bricks Biggs fix. Also the stock spring is a little too stiff. Easily upgradeable. The master volume pot takes a lot of the highs out. Again, easily upgradeable with a cap. The binding is a little uneven transitioning on to the neck. The pickguard builds up static and will "pop" now and again through your speaker. Just take the pg off or rub it every now and then with a fabric softener sheet. And finally, the bridge rattled and buzzed due to some looseness. I just put a drop of super glue over the part that was rattling and that was fine.

Now to the good! The neck feels great, it looks fantastic and to my favorite part of the guitar, THE PICKUPS. Very bright and articulate and sound great with overdrive. Sounds better than the 5420 and is more fun to play imo. Love this guitar and again, everything I said that was wrong with it is easily fixed or not a huge deal. Not as good as the Japanese gretsches, but for the price, you can't beat it.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5435T Electromatic Pro Jet w/Bigsby Electric Guitar:

This guitar came with perfect setup on the string height. Just a touch of adjustment on the intonation on a couple of strings. Some strings are a little low if you strum vigorously. A light touch is all that is necessary. The pickups are very good as well as being fully adjustable for a variety of tones. All the hardware was secure and appears to be sturdy. The finish is excellent with no flaws.

If you want a good sounding guitar, this one is hard to beat for the money. It is comfortable, responsive, and holds the tuning very well for a tremolo mounted string instrument. It takes a little time getting used to the controls, but it works well. All in all, I would buy this guitar again.

I bought this guitar as a back up for my studio not really expecting much and now finding hard to put down.
Sounds and feels like a guitar twice the price easily. The tremolo is awesome if you haven't tried one yet.

I bought this guitar about two years ago. I absolutely loved it when I got it, it was perfect right out of the box. Looked and sounded great. I have recorded a couple tracks with it, and enjoy playing it every time I do. I think it could use a locking nut as the Bixby can have a tendency to throw it outta tune at times. I really do love it, have had a few comments from others they like the tone of my SG better, I think I might too, but I feel this guitar has a unique tone, it's called GRETSCH. Thats why I bought it and I am so glad I did.

This is my first electric guitar and I found the value was great. It has so much to offer and get acquainted with on a guitar. One problem for me is that the Bigsby mounted hardware has a sharp edge to it and irritates my palm, just inside the thumb.

I bought this model a couple years ago WITHOUT the Bigsby, a very fine guitar in its own right, completely comfortable, easy to play, easy to get a good sound, and much admired by my jam partners.

But I've been wanting to learn how to play a bit of Rockabilly style guitar--gotta have that whammy bar.

Changing the strings on a Bigsby equipped guitar is challenging--it wants four hands. Buddy system required.

Great guitar right out of the box. I'm an amateur player for 45 years, basement jammer, living room picker. Couldn't be happier with this guitar. Fine instrument and can NOT beat the price.

I'm twanging out Summertime Blues and loving it!

I purchased this guitar as a substitute / replacement for 2 other different manufacturers models that I was not pleased with do to quality issues. I have been playing it for aproximately 2 weeks now and for the most part am happy, however there are 2 quality issues that should be noted. #1 there is a minor "dime sized" blemish on the very top edge of the headstock and #2 the 6th string (pickup??) is dull sounding and not as bright as the other bass strings.

So much more comfortable then the 335. And I love the looks of it. I like the Bigsby as it adds a nice touch to the looks, so I choose the Bigsby equipped model.
