Comments about Gretsch Guitars G6122-1959 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman Electric Guitar:

I just spent the evening playing several good quality guitars and playing this one last. The noticeable step up in playability and sound quality compelled me to write this review.
Mine is an orange flame top Chet Atkins Hall of Fame model but basically is the same as the regular 6122-1959.
I use this guitar almost exclusively for fingerstyle picking because of its wider neck. Soundwise, it has a very balanced fidelity. At first, I thought it might be a little brighter than I would have liked but I have since learned to EQ and adjust amp settings to get the tone I want - very clear, very articulate, very strong yet no part of the sound spectrum from bass to mid to treble is over emphasized. It will give you mellow sweetness on the neck pickup, that distinctive Gretsch sheen with both pickups on, and good twang in the bridge position.
The finish, fit, and playability was top shelf - totally pro, although, to be fair, mine was set up by a well known Gretsch shop in Brooklyn.
Is a Gretsch like this really worth its price tag of several times the cost of, say, an Electromatic? Yes, absolutely. And I love Electromatics - I have an Electromatic that is a very close second favorite to my 6122-1959. Nevertheless, there is that little bit of something extra. A little more luxurious feel and sound that keeps speaking to you as you play it - "This is a pro level guitar." It plays sweeter, and it sounds sweeter than some of my other really good guitars. That's when you realize you've got the real deal in your hands.

    Quite a keeper

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G6122-1959 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman Electric Guitar:

The tone from this guitar is unique and very full. I own a few nice guitars and this is by far my favorite. The solid bridge really lets you get an amazing sound, and while I would like some different controls on this it was designed this way specifically. The wider nut is a great addition, and like someone else wrote this guitar was immortalized in Crazy Heart. Check it out - the top-end of Gretsch guitars, and a lot more versatile than you'd think.

    Pick up your Crazy Heart...

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G6122-1959 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman Electric Guitar:

Same guitar used by Jeff Bridges in the new film "Crazy Heart". Normally I don't play Gretsch instruments but had to demo this after seeing the movie. Sounded fantastic played through a Fender Tremolux. Changed my opinion of Gretsch

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G6122-1959 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman Electric Guitar:

My wife got me the G6122 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman for Christmas I was so suprised and very pleased the guitar is beautiful and sounds fantistic. The highs are crisp and the lows are great, I couldnt be more pleased. I own several guitars including a 1966 country gentelman I bought it new but this 1959 is the best sound and the best guitar I have ever played. Anyone that loves to play music this is the Holly Grail. I love my 1959 grescth G6122 from the first cord on. Thanks to my wife Pamela for getting for me.

    Chet 's 59' guitar

    By Jaybee

    from Chicago Il.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G6122-1959 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman Electric Guitar:

This guitar 6122-1959 Country Gentleman guitar is the best I've ever played on and the best sounding guitar for Chet's style of music I've heard to this day. Thanks to Paul Yaandel for all his work and efforts you to can come close to the the real thing like Chet had and played on for so many years. He used his 6122-1959 for most of all his recordings. It was his BABY! The extra wide 1 3/4 neck is a plus for us fingerpickers. The sound is great with the two TV Jones pickups. SMOOTH! The finish alone will pop your eyes right out. Tiger striped a little bit with a Dark Red Brown finish. Looks to be a Dark Walnut but the light it's Redish Brown. This guitar is well made and solid .Made in Japan it stands up to American made guitars without any problems. Really it is a much better than most American guitars today. Go and see if you can find one and play on it and you will see what I'm talking about for yourself! It ain't cheap and you will see why when you experience playing one. This is everybody's dream if you play real music. Not made for rock at all. Jay B.

    Great Gretsch!!

    By LOGHAVENPLAYER-Sb60.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G6122-1959 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman Electric Guitar:

I own several arch top guitars (Gibson ES-175, Gibson Wes Montgomery) and this Gretsch is quickly becoming my favorite. Great to look at, easy to play, minimal controls to make tone changes easy. The neck pickup delivers smooth jazz tones with treble rolled back and the bridge pick up delivers that classic country twang sound. I play in a Praise Band and use it extensively. Great for comping. Just adding a smidge of reverb and delay is all that I need. The simulated "f" holes eliminate feedback found in other archtops. Definitely a quality guitar although for the money.
