A terrific guitar for the money

    By Tom R

Comments about Guild DV-6 Acoustic Guitar:

I don't understand the negative reviews of some of the others that posted on this site. They must have gotten some real dogs - which is totally uncharacteristic of the Guild brand - even if it is owned by Fender. Fender acoustics may not be the best, but the Guild brand has trully stood the test of time and when this company bought the name, they also apparently bought and have incorporated the Guild legacy of fine craftsmanship, which is evident in their Chinese-made models too. I can honestly say that my DV-6 is truly great and even though it was one of the last U.S.-made versions - the others are now made in Mexico - but as I noted, I am sure Guild is still using the same great materials and also has the same quality control standards that it had in the Tacoma plant. Consider buying one today.
This guitar is an all solid wood instrument - solid spruce top, solid rosewood back and sides. The combination of the materials and the way it is built make it one of the best sounding acoustics out there for the money. I can say this after having owned it for a few years. It just keeps getting better sounding with time. Some may not like the bare bones satin finish, but that may be one of its finer qualities. The wood has room to breath, and hence, you probably get a better sound.
This is a well built instrument made with excellent materials. Mine was also set up pretty good out of the box right from the Tacoma, Washington factory. One of my favorite guitars, I wouldn't trade it for anything. It is also extremely playable too with a fingerboard and neck that are beautifully constructed.
I got mine at a discount and knowing what I know now about the guitar, I would have paid much more. It is that good. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

    Very Disappointed

    By Tarzan

Comments about Guild DV-6 Acoustic Guitar:

OK... maybe it was just the one I received... but:This guitar has been a real disappointment. It never really sounded like a Guild when I compare it to Guilds I had made in the '70s... ok sound, but nothing remarkable and not a lot of volume. The frets were not set correctly. The edges were rough and troublesome since its arrival. Some frets in the higher position were at different depths. Nothing outrageous, but enough to cause buzzing on certain positions. Two months after receiving it the back cracked up the middle! The guitar was in a room with two other guitars including one I have had for 20 years. There were no problems with the other two guitars but this split. The room had the right temperature and humidity (72 & 43% humidity).Perhaps the issue is the finish... but, that does not account for the problems with the fretboard. Maybe it was a problem started when it was shipped or perhaps with being stored in a warehouse prior to shipping.Regardless, I have been very disappointed with the sound, playability and splitting up the back. I have never had one of my guitars split or crack as I take very good care of them.I have contacted Guild and hope they will replace it... preferably with a different model. I love the sound of many Guild models but this has put me off of their newer Fender/Guild line entirely.

    Mine is an older model...

    By Rocdoc

Comments about Guild DV-6 Acoustic Guitar:

Mine is a Westerly (RI) model from 1996 and has mahogany back and sides. It takes these things a number of years to "open up" and you never know exactly what you're going to get. Having said that, I would definitely roll the dice with one of these. I could not be happier. I played a Martin DM yesterday, and my DV-6 absolutely blows it away.

Best bang for the buck out there

    By DWdrummer67

Comments about Guild DV-6 Acoustic Guitar:

I visited one of the country's best guitar shops, and was fortunate enough to play a huge variety of guitars. I originally had my eyes set on a Gibson J-45. This guitar is one of the most talked about guitars there are, so I figured... "man... I gotta hear one of those". Well.. I played 3. They alll sounded thin. I fortunately picked up the DV-6, and absolutely thought that it was one of the nicest sounding and playing guitars I've ever touched. Gibson may have the name, but whatever Guild did to create this beauty is awesome. It's also less than half the price of the Gibson. So bottom line... if your looking for a great sounding bare bones guitar, this is it.P.S. I only rated the features 4.5 because there are guitars out there that offer more detail and frills (glossy finish). I personally prefer a bare bones guitar, so it's perfect.

    Great Guitar for the Money

    By Tom R

    from Piedmont Triad, N.C.

Comments about Guild DV-6 Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this guitar used from someone who apparently played it for a day. The reason? The player felt it was too loud. Well for me that booming voice is what a Guild is all about. I have a few jumbo body Guilds including the JF 30 and JF 48 models and this holds its own against any of those. I was fortunate to get one of the last U.S. -made versions of this and love the sound, the shape, the finish and the overall quality of the construction and materials, including the beautiful solid rosewood sides and back. This is a great guitar for the money and I recommend it wholeheartedly.

    Guild DV-6

    By SRVfan-TlZi8

Comments about Guild DV-6 Acoustic Guitar:

This is a good guitar with good treble and a booming bass. The only turn offs are that it has a matte finish and it's made in Mexico, but if you can get over that it is a great guitar. Comparerd to the higher level models like the D-40 it sounds better- note that I'm a large fan of indian rosewood for it's rich tone. It is much louder and sounds better with the flat-picking style of playin. Overall it is a four in my book, but you'll just have to try it out yourself.

    Guild DV-6

    By Stevie B

    from Rochester, NY

Comments about Guild DV-6 Acoustic Guitar:

Purchased the Guild DV-6 a couple of months ago and am very happy with my decision. Compared it to a couple of GAD models and a couple of lower end Taylors and could tell the difference after one strum. The others I tried sounded dead and lifeless- muddy. This has the brightness and sparkle I've experienced with past Guilds I've owned- D55, D40 and a JF30. Thump your finger on the top and the acoustic resonation is amazing. Mine is made in Mexico. Compared to a DV-4 (mahogany) that was made in USA, and although I liked that also I preferred the tone of the rosewood. The satin neck and smooth fretboard are a joy to play. Highly recommended.

    Great Guild Sound!

Comments about Guild DV-6 Acoustic Guitar:

The quality for the price you pay is worth the money. It has a nice balanced feel. The neck is straight as an arrow. It has great low end to it and this guitar is very loud. You can quiet it down with elixers but why? If you want true guilds sound this guitar is for you.
