OVERVIEW

12-string Jumbo size, solid sitka spruce top, solid rosewood back and sides, and a multi-source pickup system.

Guild twelve string guitars have set the standard by which all others are judged. The F-512 Acoustic-Electric Guitar with DTAR-MS continues the Guild twelve string legacy, matching a tight grain Sitka spruce top with Indian rosewood back and sides to produce shimmering highs, singing mids, and a warm, focused bass response that truly sets it apart.

With elegant cosmetic appointments, premium specifications and exceptional playability not commonly associated with twelve string guitars, the F-512 is one of the finest twelve string guitars available today. This model is equiped with the D-Tar Wave-Length Multi-Source pickup system for precise amplified sound reproduction.

D-Tar Wave-Length pickup and preamp system
The new Multi-Source combines the popular Wave-Length pickup system with a condenser microphone for versatility, flexibility and, of course, the most natural sound possible from your acoustic guitar.

The Multi-Source starts with the Wave-Length unitary design, piezoelectric co-polymer under-saddle pickup coupled to an 18-volt, low-noise, high-input impedance preamp with twice the dynamic range of typical 9-volt systems. The 18-volt preamp is powered by two "AA" batteries. With 18 volts, your signal has more headroom so hard strumming or plucking won't distort into piezo "quack" as easily.

With the addition of the highly-efficient miniature, omni-directional electret condenser microphone, you can amplify your acoustic guitar with startling clarity and accuracy. The mic is nestled in a special absorptive visco-elastic polymer shock mount for optimal isolation. Two low-profile knobs allow for master volume and microphone volume. Dial the microphone in to add just the right amount of "air"; dial it out to control feedback, if necessary. The microphone channel has two stages of low frequency roll-off to combat any tendency towards low frequency feedback. Also, full coverage copper shielding on the pickup insures immunity to external noise fields. This system is quiet.

Comments about Guild F-512 Acoustic-Electric Guitar with DTAR Multi-Source Pickup System:

Buying the F512 was a nostalgia trip for me. My very first 12-string was a Guild 512 back in 1968 which I was forced to sell due to being shipped overseas for military service. I loved my first 512 and love this one even more! The craftsmanship and sound have remained outstanding plus the modern version comes with the DTAR multi-source pickup. I have had the guitar for almost six months now and had the chance to try it in a good number of situations. I thought it was great as an acoustic but it becomes totally awesome when amplified. If you are looking for a true acoustic sound through an amp, the DTAR system is the answer! I have a Fishman Loudbox Pro (also from Musicians Friend) and the sound of the F512 through that amp is perfect for small or large venues alike. You can really "crank it up" with little or no distortion. The system is very feedback resistant even at high volume by simply adjusting the pickup/mic mixture. It HAS taken me awhile to get used to the controls being in the sound hole but now seems quite natural. I should warn that this is a jumbo guitar. It's loud and it's big! If you are small you might get lost behind it. The Gotoh tuners on mine are different than any guitar I've had before. The cut end of the string tucks into a hole in the center of the post so you don't have those sharp ends sticking out to poke you. They also make string changing easier which is appreciated on a 12-string.

Comments about Guild F-512 Acoustic-Electric Guitar with DTAR Multi-Source Pickup System:

I am 60 years young and have Martins, Gibsons and Taylors - all excellent. This is the "cream of the crop." My hands are small and I really took the time to choose the right 12 string. Spent days on different forums and thrilled with my choice. The neck is perfect; my hands are small. I wish there was a high quality gig bag that fit!
