This is a very balanced guitar it's very comfortable to play. I got the black sparkle finish, it's very clean no blemishes at all. I think that the pickups sound just fine, I might upgrade them later. The action was right on straight out of the box. The tuners are first rate very cool looking so is the head stock the detail in the finish is amazing. It's not to heavy a good firm weight this is one guitar that I will have for a long long time. I compared it the Epiphone Les Paul's and the PRS SE'S the Hagstrom beat them in quality and as well as sound and for the buck's it's a no brainer get one before they raise the price. I'd buy another one if something happened to this one a great guitar.
I have a red sparkle Delux. I git it about 3 weeks ago and it rocks. it's not a cheesy mass produced guitar. the electronics are good. The picks sound amazing, it looks great. It is heavy though. weighs more then my Paul Standards! but the sustain is very nice. two thumbs up on this guitar. welcome back Hagstrom!
Please understand that I have been a died-in-the-wool Gibson man for over 30 yrs. I knew many guys that had Hags over the years. I was digging around in a music store a month ago and saw the new ones and I tried one. WOW!!!I have NEVER seen a guitar with action this low. The fingering is VERY fast, and unbelievable sustain! And this was through a buzz-box amp in the music store. I bought mine last night. I have the red metalflake (BEAUTIFUL!) I plugged it into my B-52 Tube half-stack. GREAT HAIRY NED, WHAT A SOUND!!!This axe is so easy to play. Excellent tone, excellent construction. Everyone who knows me knows that for me to get something besides a Gibson it HAS to be great, and this baby is. WARNING: If you try, you'll buy it!
This is a great guitar at any price. I made a small adjustment in the intonation and took off. It plays and sounds great. The finish is awesome, it's dark red and sparkles. It says made in China but I never would have guessed it. They must have good quality control at Hagstrom.
I own the silver sparkle and the finish is awesome - it has shiny silver flakes in the finish. Most silver sparkle is just a laminate which looks gray more than silver. Gets noticed and complimented constantly. The tone is solid and sounds great cranked up through my Marshall. The cases are cool too, very vintage looking with plenty of storage. The ONLY drawbacks are the plastic tuning key buttons. I also have an original '70s Swede with the metal tuners and there is a difference. I guess as long as you don't abuse them, the tuners should be OK.
The tone is amazing. It's a heavy feel, like a gibson, and I've played expensive gibsons. Save the money and buy this guitar. I recently dropped mine at a practice, which scatched the paint and was interested to buy another one. I am depressed they are discontinuing this guitar. If you can find one for the price, it is well worth it, and the cherry burst is beautiful.
