I purchased 2 of these for my twin 8 year old nieces for Xmas. I shipped them direct from MF to 3,000 miles away, based on the reviews here. Got to play them on a visit 2 months later (after the return period, so I was nervous). All I can say is WOW!!! I figured they would need new strings right away (I immediately restring all my new guitars with Martin 80/20s), not so, strings weren't bad at all (amazing for a $90 guitar). Both had DELICIOUSLY light actions. Perfect for young beginners (and lazy old guys). Great tone!!! Nice finger boards and NO high frets. Both were identical in setup and finish, very playable right out of the box. Good looking finish, but not much more than you would expect for the price, still very acceptable. The balance, sound, and tone are much, much better than either Baby Taylor 3/4 (Spruce or Mahogany top, at 3 times the price!!). I own several full size and 7/8 scales (Taylors, Taks and Yams) and a 1/2 scale. I'm ordering one or two of these Hohner 3/4s for myself ASAP. Can't say enough good about this product. I don't care how old you are, this is the best beginners guitar I've run across, and a hoot to play for those of us who've been around a while. This will be my new rafting and camping guitar!!! Thanks Musicians Friend and thanks reviewers!!!!!!!

To be clear, the guitar doesn't belong to me, it was loaned to me by a friend who left it here by accident when she went back to France. Nonetheless, here's what I have to say.
It's an alright feeling guitar, but it definitely cannot handle anything but the lightest gauged strings. Honestly, I thought it was a 3/4 classical guitar because of the wide neck and how weird it felt with heavier strings. It's fun for finger picking, and alright with strumming. The action is incredibly high, though, so that's annoying.
My biggest beef with this guitar is its intonation. It doesn't hold tune, and it's nearly impossible to tune. I think the fret sizes must be wrong or something, because when tuned with open strings to standard tuning, each fret higher gets slightly sharper than what it ought to be. You can't tune this thing relative to itself; if you try to, the highest string will end up at least a step and a half higher than what it ought to be and it sounds TERRIBLE. Now, I don't have perfect pitch so I don't really notice how sharp the notes become when playing open chords, but it's really noticeable when you get higher on the fretboard. It bugs the heck out of me!

Comments about Hohner HW03 3/4 Size Acoustic Guitar:
I wasn't expecting much. I'm not sure why I even bought it.
I gotta say: it has been a very pleasant surprise. With a string-change, it plays pretty good. I have short fat fingers and can't strum a C on a normal guitar, but on this thing its no problem.
The frets are placed slightly sharp all the way up the fretboard. I appreciate the consistancy of this because I can account for it. The intonation is off of course. But whatever. Tune to open-G, grab your slide, and go bananas. the little guitar has gobs of tonal character (not what you'd normally want in a guitar). Hohner should rename it the Delta Spitbox Supreme and include a slide. Its perfect for a budding bluesman looking for a raunchy bang-box. Seriously.
For parents looking for a cheap guitar for their budding rockstar: don't buy this. Really. Why saddle a beginner with something that'll never quite sound right? Invest in a better instrument.
Basicly, this is a great guitar if you know how/when to use it. For the inexperienced player, I'm certain there are better choices.

I bought this for my daughter. I love the traditional look, no pink or aqua painted plywood here. The finish isn't top of the line, but is pretty nice for a kid's guitar.
Two things will improve the tone immensely: Decent light strings (after all, it's a kid's guitar, so light strings are the way to go), and brass bridge pins. For an extra $12 or so, it's impressive how much better it sounds (BTW, get the brass, the "alloy" pins are a pain to install and don't provide as much sustain).
It was set up well to start with, and within 20 minutes it was tuned and ready. It plays very well. The tuners seem to hold just fine. If you have child who wants to learn, this is the box.
I just wish I could find as good of a deal on a case for it.

Comments about Hohner HW03 3/4 Size Acoustic Guitar:
I wanted a smaller acoustic I could use for practice/song ideas and since I own a full size Hohner acoustic which plays incredibly well, I trusted in this one. What can I say? It looked good, sounded good for its size, tuners worked good, but it was impossible to tune. It may have just been the guutar I received, as it seemed that the frets were not properly spaced. Intonation was way off. I returned mine.
For a guitar in this price range, the features were acceptable. Tuners work fine. Construction seems solid.
I experienced terrible intonation issues with the guitar I received. After tuning all the open strings to standard tuning, every note from the first fret and up played as a sharp, making it virtually unplayable.
You get what you pay for. The guitar I received had some flaws.

great buy. I think me and my son will be very happy with this instrument.
seems to have every feature you would expect from a guitar like this. no issues.
was one blemish in laquer near sound hole. no biggy. the top is obviously not solid spruce, but I didnt' really expect it to be.
value is the best I could find. really good product for the price.

I'm giving this guitar a 10. I like it enough that I am looking for a pickup that will work on it to use through my acoustic amp. I ordered a Seymour Duncan Woody, but there is no way that pickup will fit into the soundhole without shaving wood off the pickup. Didn't want to void my warranty so returned it. I am ordering a K&K Sound Hotspot pickup for it where the pickup sticks on, so I don't have to worry about the smaller soundhole size. I'm getting that pickup for a little more delivered. Didn't want to spend much on a pickup for a guitar that I got for a low price.
I had read reviews for the Hohner and listened to some youtube videos of it and liked the sound. Gave it a shot and am very happy with it. When I'm done I'll have a guitar and pickup that I could use for around the house playing, busking, or playing small gigs if I want to.
I am not comparing this to an expensive Martin or Taylor. But I have been playing for about 45 years off and on. I'm looking at a Hohner resonator guitar on ebay, as the Hohners seem to be pretty well made for a Chinese guitar.
For an acoustic guitar it's got all the features one would expect at the price. My review is for this guitar at this price.
Again, for this acoustic at this price, I think it's a bargain.
Has to be a 10. Plays very well. Sounds good. Tuners hold well. Looks nice. Sounds good for slide playing.
Comments about Hohner HW03 3/4 Size Acoustic Guitar:
very very good value for an all wood guitar.
It came with cheap strings. after about 9 months, I changed the strings to Light Elixir Nanoweb Phosphor Bronze strings and replaced the stock plastic bridge pins with bone bridge pins. Oh man, the difference in sound was very obvious. If you have this guitar, just change the strings and bridge pins, you will love to strum this guitar a little bit more...Just replace the strings and bridge pins, you will think this is not a cheaper guitar, not even a starter guitar. Just remember, this is an all-wood guitar, so it will sound better through time..
