This is a very nice little guitar if you are interested in crossing over from steel string flat-top or electric to nylon classical/flamenco on the cheap. It features a dual-action truss rod and reference dots for the frets; neither of which are standard on most classical guitars. The Ivorex II nut and saddle are nice. The fretboard was extremely dry out of the box. The frets were badly tarnished. I ripped the factory strings off and fixed both problems using 0000 steel wool for the frets, lemon oil for the board. I put new Martin Nylon Strings on, and she was good to go.The fret dressing is a little rough, but overall the guitar is well constructed. The neck has perfect relief and lines up well. No adjustment needed out of the box. I give the intonation a "B". For a non compensated saddle, it's pretty much on. Nice and even tone for a laminated body. I'm very happy with this product

Overall this is not a very well made guitar. Sure the finish was very nice and it has a big body with a adjustable neck but the sound was terrible and it's hard on the hands with the sharp edges of the frets. Mine had a bunch of flat spots on the neck, basically a lemon guitar. Purchase the Yamaha C40 and you will be much more happy.
Nice finish, clean bod and neck but poor quality. Not worth the price, this is really not a good guitar.
Very poor neck with buzzes everywhere, bad fretwork with sharp edges, really terrible tone.
Not worth the money, it's more of under a $100 guitar. I would not even recommend this to a beginner.

Very Impressed!

Comments about Ibanez GA Series GA5 Classical Guitar:

I Purchased this guitar to get started playing nylon strings and get that warm tone they produce, and Boy am I happy to say, it delivered, Big Time. Never thought I'd stick with it with a guitar of this price range but I still play this guitar quite often love it's tone and playability.
It has all the nessesary features with nothing over the top.
It seems to be very well made for a guitar of this price and the all around quality was Great.
Great beginners guitar and Bang for your buck.

A Thing of Beauty

By JohnsWayne

Comments about Ibanez GA Series GA5 Classical Guitar:

I love this guitar! It has a beautiful tone, it's sturdy, and it's a complete steal. Some songs just sound better on nylon strings and this guitar gave me exactly what I was looking for. I had to adjust the truss rod because of some buzzing on the first 5 frets, but that's not uncommon. And it came with an allen wrench, truss rod instructions, and a replacement bridge bone so it was a breeze to fix. The craftsmanship on mine is superb - this would be a great first guitar or nylon addition for any player.

Second time's a charm!

By Tall Rascal

from Homer, NY

Comments about Ibanez GA Series GA5 Classical Guitar:

I wanted a nylon-string guitar in my collection to replace an old cheapie that I broke, but I didn?t want to spend much money. The reviews on this guitar were impressive, so I went ahead and ordered one. The first model I received had major intonation problems on the B and E strings, and Musician?s Friend took it back without hesitation. The replacement is absolutely perfect so far as I can see. The intonation is fine, it stays in tune, and the tone is quite good for an entry-level classical ax. I?ve looked it over from top to bottom, trying to find a cosmetic flaw like the stray glue that some reviewers have referred to, but I can?t. The guitar is nice to look at and is a phenomenal value. The bottom line is that I?m extremely pleased with this instrument.

Far better than expected

Comments about Ibanez GA Series GA5 Classical Guitar:

Having sold my "real" hand-made classical with the fancy pedigree, I wanted a player that I wouldn't have to sell because it was worth too much. This little guitar is actually a lot more guitar than the price would suggest. The workmanship is top notch throughout and the finish is as good as the high dollar classical that I sold. My only complaints are typical of a plywood instrument... the volume produced is low and the tone is thin. Also, the frets are a bit on the high side and aren't as smooth as the high dollar instrument I was used to. But considering that this guitar doesn't need to have a sealed case and humidifier and that I won't panic when it takes an inevitable spill from the bed to the floor, this guitar is great!

Spring Brook Player.

By Spring Brook Player.

Comments about Ibanez GA Series GA5 Classical Guitar:

I'm an accomplished player and have been at it over 40 years. This is my third classical guitar. My solid spruce top Wilson and Son's needs extensive neck and top work so I thought I'd say "what the heck and try this cheapie. This Ibanez simply blew me away. I'm really fussy about my instruments and this one is a beauty. The only significant difference is the voice because it has a laminate top. {Laminate top won't sink]For 98% of players out there the voice difference is negligible anyway. This guitar is worth twice or more what it cost.

Comments about Ibanez GA Series GA5 Classical Guitar:

This classical guitar is an amazing guitar, especially for how cheap it is. I wouldnt even called it cheap though, inexpensive rather. Pretty much everything about it I love except the fact that it doesnt have a screw to put a strap on.

Comments about Ibanez GA Series GA5 Classical Guitar:

I have been playing since 1963. I have had 2 Yamahas, a Garcia grade 2, and this Ibanez is as good as anything I have ever owned. If you are a pro player, you arent in the market for any guitar inder a few grand. That's cool. But the rest of us need a solid, beautifully crafted instrument that will remain playable after many years. Ibanez has done something that I have never seen in a classical guitar, A truss rod in the neck. That means long life and a degree of adjustability that was not known in classical guitars before. The neck and both the bridge are adjustable and a second bridge insert is included. A fully adjustable classical was unheard of until now. If you want a nice sounding, very well built instrument, this one will surprise you. Also order some new strings. With the truss rod, it will handle high tension strings if that is your preference. It is miles above any starter classical guitar.

Great guitar for the money

Comments about Ibanez GA Series GA5 Classical Guitar:

I got this guitar for Christmas last year from this website. Having never played a classical guitar or a guitar with nylon strings, I was very suprised with my gift. However, the action on the guitar was nice and low and very easy to play. The finish is also nice with no fit or finish flaws from the factory. The sound is very mellow and actually sounds better strummed than my Alvarez AC-60. This is one great guitar to learn on or use as a bang-around instrument.

Good low-end classical guitar

By ben-kGzMw

from Allison Park, PA

Comments about Ibanez GA Series GA5 Classical Guitar:

For the price, there is not much else available. The guitar sounds good and stays in tune. The action was also good. As far as features are concerned, classical guitars are fairly standard. The only thing I did notice was that the factory did not get wood finish into the small nooks and crannies up near the tuning machines. I don't consider that a big deal for a guitar of this price. To sum it up. This is a good guitar for the money.

Comments about Ibanez GA Series GA5 Classical Guitar:

This is my 6th guitar, and my only classical. I tried several makes and models, and for the money this guitar is hard to beat. The action on this one was low, making it easy to play, and while it doesn't have the tone of classical guitars in the $500+ catagory, I think it rivals most guitars in the under $500 catagory. Great guitar for a beginner, or any experienced player who wants a classical to fool around with.

Comments about Ibanez GA Series GA5 Classical Guitar:

Nice warm tone, comfortable low action. Arrived in perfect condition and played nicely after a few minutes of tuning and strectching the strings. Stays in tune, a great deal for the price. Only criticism is that the tuner knobs are made of cheap looking plastic, but the overall quality makes this forgivable. I can't put it down!

I am new to classical guitar, so I don't have much experience to base this on, but from what I know, this is a high quality guitar for the price. It has low action and plays extremely well, and it has an excellent sound. Very great value for the price.

Comments about Ibanez GA Series GA5 Classical Guitar:

The GA5 is an amazing deal, I got it for school and AP music theroy, I have been playing guitar for about 2 years and when I got this I was expecting some cheep guitar to last me a couple years, I was happly mistaken, when I first strumed it I was blown away by its rich bass and bright sound. I use it now during recording sessions and is very popular amoung my band mates. Over all I am amazed at this deal.

Comments about Ibanez GA Series GA5 Classical Guitar:

Having played the majority of cheap, moderate and expensive classical guitars at every guitar store within 50 miles of me, I can say that this is by far the best deal I've seen. There are obviously going to be some things about this guitar that aren't "perfect" because it's so cheap. The pegs are plastic, but that doesn't affect the way it plays. My fingerboard was chipped at the very bottom, but it doesn't affect the way it played. The action was great, it has that classical sound and it looks the part. If you're looking for a classical guitar to start on -- go for this. If you're looking for something "better" -- you're probably going to spend a lot of money for silly things and it wouldn't be worth it. I say, don't go with anything else unless you're REALLY a classical guitarist.

Comments about Ibanez GA Series GA5 Classical Guitar:

..It has a truss rod! I just received this guitar and already I am impressed by the fact it has a truss rod. The action out of the box lower than the fender and Alvarez classicals I have owned. The bridge can be filed and the neck can be adjusted for even more playability. The finish is good for this price range. For an entry range guitar or for something to haul back and forth to lessons, well worth the money!

Good guitar

By Go Pats!

Comments about Ibanez GA Series GA5 Classical Guitar:

At first sight guitar looked quite cute and nice, but after a little more careful inspection a lot of clumsy craftmanship (this guitar was made in China) was identified. I could find several glue remains around bridge and neck and some rugged spots near bridge, but they had no effect on playing. Sound is very good, in fact great considering its price-(You cannot, however, compare this guitar with Kohno or Ramirez which come with several grands price tag.). And action is really great. The fingerboard and frets are nicely set and you can play without any problem. One biggest issue is the string (D'Addario according to their brochure. They just said D'Addario and did not specify the string, guage....nothing). I do not know whether strings themselves or Ibanez's production process caused this problem, but any way the high E and B string were covered with glue, and transition from D to G is too obvious and those two string sound like they are from totally different brands.Nevertheless, overall, Great buy! I can recommend this guitar to anyone who want to learn how to play the classic guitar. It is definitely a great buy for the price. Highly recommend.
