I picked this up for $89 used at a local music dealer because all I have is an off brand strat and I needed an affordable guitar with humbuckers. I took it home and flipped the strings (I'm a lefty. By the way, lefties, if you're gonna go Hendrix style, get a guitar with a bolt-on neck. You can get a screwdriver and easily put the strap pin in place of a bolt on the back.). Wow! This guitar easily compares to the strat looking models. The harmonics are great and you can easily get some screams out of it. Has a clear, clean tone when you use the bridge pickup and the neck one has that deep, thick tone. The neck pickup stood out to me because I use the bridge pickup alone more due to the music I play, but the neck one is also great, which is pretty amazing because the tone knob only works for the bridge pickup on mine (Again mine was used.) These pickups may be exceptional though because the are Seymour Duncans and I'm not sure if they are stock or not. The neck is really smooth and fast and ist perfect for Punk Rock and Grunge. The D string has a bad buzz in some places, but I think it's just because I haven't put a lefty nut on it yet. Very nice finish (WAY better than these pics) and not only that but a very durable guitar too. I mainly play bass, but I'm gonna use this as my primary stage guitar. Great for the price and well worth it. I'd pay up to about $350 for it, but not anymore, because if you have that much, get a G-400. The only reason I gave features a 4.5 is because personally, I like tremolo bridges. Anyways it's a great overall guitar and I'm thinking about getting one in blue (Mine's red) for my bands guitarist for his B-day.

I've been playing guitar for 8 months, and still use it...but only because I'm in the process of saving up for a Fender American Strat. To all beginners: this is a great guitar to start with. It has its own sound, a great feel, and a wonderful body--but once you've learned how to play and want to play live: time to move on. Use this as a bridge to something better. Great for the price, but don't make the mistake of getting near an american strat...you won't want to touch this guitar again for a month!

Just Fantastic!

Everyone from beginners to seasoned rockers will love this thing. If you're even thinking about getting it, just do it. You won't be disappointed.
When I pulled it out of the box, it was already perfectly set up and in tune; in just five minutes, I was plugged in and wailing away. For the price, its just terrific. It easily competes with guitars costing ten times as much, and feels and plays just as good. I'm a bit bullish on guitars, so I need a guitar that can hold up to some serious hard rock, and this little beauty performs swimmingly. I play through a Marshall JCM800 half-stack and this guitar sounds huge plugged into it. You can have your expensive Les Pauls and SG's - this thing performs right alongside them without even breaking a sweat. Bottom line: if you're looking for a serious rock machine on a budget, this is the ticket.
Fit and finish is flawless. No rattles or extraneous noise, and the action is razor-thin and buttery smooth. I still can't believe this thing is Chinese made.
One of the best values in a guitar that I've ever come across.

a good axe goes good with my old peavy amp. i got it in january and havent hade many complaints. if you have big meaty fingers like me i have to say that this isnt the axe for you.it could use better pickups but over all a good guitar for starters and a play around guitar.

Good action on neck, horrible fretboard

By Jonathan Robbins

The only problems I have had with this is a shaking sound on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd fret of E, A, and D and the strings hitting the frets when picking.

Excellent Value with High Expectations

By Topher Reynolds

from Indianapolis, IN

I recently got this guitar in December and I really could not be happier. The only real thing i've noticed is it only has 2 knobs, which is minimal for sound control but easily fixed with a good distortion pedal. For the low price i paid, I really am amazed. Recently i've been playing heavier stuff (in the vein of Norma Jean, Dillinger Escape plan, etc.) and music that involves a lot of really chaotic parts and this guitars fretboard is amazing to use; it flows very well. The sound quality isn't bad at all, and it is BY FAR the lightest guitar I have ever played in my life. when I wear it on stage I feel like its practically weightless. If you are looking for a good sounding ibanez that is light enough to throw like crazy on stage and inexpensive... This is your pick.

It's Ok

I guess its a pretty good guitar to start with but after about a year it gets old. The neck is really small and thats not good when you dont have the smallest fingers. Its only out of ture once in a while for me, usually stays. Its good to start out with but once you get better...buy a different one.

I just bought this guitar and it sounds really nice. I compared it with a few other guitars and this one sounded the best. I also like the way that it is shaped.

Pretty Good

By Anonymous

This is a great guitar for the price. The only complaint I have with mine is that the frets hang just barely off the neck so it scratches your hands and makes it hard for you to slide up and down the neck. I would recomend buying it from a local guitar shop because if the guitar has any problems with buzzing or to high of strings they will fix them. Great beginner- intermediate guitar with great sound.

Cheap, but still rockin'

I have had my black one for about a year now and even though it is not always in tune, it still plays hard and that's what i like. It has just enough controls to make me happy also. If you're worried about it being crap for the price... don't be.

My favorite guitar

By chipesterkhan

from Metro Manila, Philippines

I have a collection of guitars including a Gibson Les Paul, a couple of Fender Strats and a Tele. I barely play them, cause I like my Gax30 better. The playability of the GAX is astounding for a cheap guitar. And more often than not, this guitar is part of my live set up.It's a bit sharper on the ears than a Les Paul, but to the uninitiated, it doesn't really make a difference. This guitar handles distortion very well and is perfect for hard rock to heavy metal settings.I bought the GAX in 2008 and haven't purchased anything else. The GAX is a rare guitar to get here locally because everyone's keeping it for themselves.Too bad my guitar burned along with the rest of our house last March 19, 2011.

The Beginners Guitar

By Ryan Mac

from Arvada, CO

The Ibanez GAX30 Electric Guitar by Ibanez is one of the best guitars for beginners, sure you can get a fender strait or squir for less but everyone has one. If you want your own style you should get this guitar, i mean it has a volume and ajust ment knob and great pick-up.Yuo can play all types of music like Rock, Country and even some metal. This guitar is great to have to just sit back and relax while playing one of your tunes, trust me , i own one. --Ryan Mac

pretty good

By metalhead-r5Gte

I bought this guitar for myself about a year or so ago. I've been pretty pleased with it, although I do need to replace the pickups. Other than that, I haven't had any problems with it. It is a very light guitar, as well, which is nice for playing standing up for a while. The neck plays well, too. A good guitar for a beginner.

Decent guitar

I have had this guitar for about 8 months, and I have to say I am pleased. Granted, the gloss finish is impossible to keep clean and it dings easily. Great distortion tone on the bridge pick-up, not so good clean, the neck on the other hand throws a nice deep tone. Pick-ups lose intonation after about 3 months, a few adjustments and you should be set.

My Birthday Present

By Regend

from LA, CA

See all my reviews

I play bass and my roomates thought it was clever to buy me guitar for my birthday. They picked this model in black. What ended up happening is that it's now my lead singer's back up guitar in a band I play in. We primarily play latin reggae drum and bass thing music. This guitar is a great beginners guitar and for someone who isn't a guitar player but wants to learn. It does play fast however the bridge and pickups need to be replaced. The stock pickups are brighter than I think they should be and the bridge isn't very high in quality. High E strings have broken and our guitar player's main axe is an Epiphone Casio so he's used to having higher action and plays light on it. On one night the string popped prety hard knocking out one of the high E string saddle screws...Overall it's a good guitar and a good price. Which can later be upgraded when buyer's abilities grow.

Good for beginners

By Sector

from Maryland

This is a decent guitar at a very low price. The pickups aren't that great, and the tuning pegs are average, but the neck plays pretty well. Replacing the pickups may help the tone a lot. The input jack fell into the guitar after about a year, but as long as you're not afraid of opening your guitar to put it back, it's nothing a simple screwdriver can't fix. Overall, it's a great guitar for the price.

The blue looks great, and if you also use an Ibanez amp, there is no feedback. I was proved wrong, as I thought that it wouldn't be good!

This Guitar is a Beginners Dream

By Thriller

from Ashland, OH

I have had this guitar for over a year now, and all I can say is Wow. The versatility of the neck is great. It has a nice multi-radius to it. The pickups found on this guitar are average. They make a great clean sound and a good "overdriven" sound. This is an excellent guitar that is better than some of the guitars out there over 5x the price of this one.

If you're like most people and do not have a lot of money, but have so much pride in electric guitars, then the GAX30 is for you. It's affordable, easy to work with and it rocks hard...Have to say, I have the transparent red one and looks pretty kick a**...
