I bought two of these packs two weeks ago, one for my wife and one for me to learn to play the guitar.

The rating for quality is based on the tuner, guitar strap, and the instructional DVD. The guitar strap is made out of a cheap material especially the leatherette at the ends, the electric tuner is finicky. On my wife's guitar, the cable must be plugged into the guitar for the tuner to power on. On my guitar the tuner didn't work at first, then it worked without me having to plug the cable in, and since yesterday I have to plug the cable in to make the tuner power on, all with a fresh set of batteries. Clearly something wrong with the circuitry inside these guitars. You should also know that to get the tuner to work in this manner the cable doesn't have to be plugged into the amp at the other end, it is simply there to complete the circuit.

The finish of the guitar is good, not great but good, it is the quality that customers should expect from a reputable manufacturer at this price point, black with a few sparkles and creme accents around the body and fret board. The head of the guitar and the tuning machines are the nicest part of the entire guitar quality wise. The tuning machines are good and the guitar stays in tune.

The instructional DVD is extremely basic, do not count on it for teaching you how to play the guitar. There is a video from a gig which the teacher performed in, which is longer than the time he took to explain to you how to play the guitar. Please get yourself professional guitar lessons, or at least be ready to study on your own, whether online at the numerous websites or through literature, the DVD is useless. The instruction manual which comes with the guitar is very limited and made for more than one model of Ibanez guitars.

On a side note, the amp that came with my guitar was made back in spring of 2010, the one that came with my wife's guitar is from about 6 months ago, they both look different from each other, and neither look like the on in the picture. Her amp has a sticker only that says Ibanez right above the mesh. My says Ibanez in big creme color plastic letters right over the mesh.

The strings that come with the guitar are fine for what we are doing, we are learning and they are perfect for this purpose.

Best thing about this pack for me is the fact that after we learn how to play guitar with this one, I will know better what I will want on my next guitar. If I hadn't bought this guitar I would have never known what to look for in a more expensive model.

One last note, I have heard beautiful music come out of a plywood guitar before and feel that until the player outgrows the guitar it isn't time to upgrade, get this pack, learn to play and when you are so amazing that you outgrow this guitar, go for a better one, by this point you should know what you would want that guitar to be, what wood, what features, what shape and what sound. Hope you enjoyed the review and found it helpful!
This pack features an Ibanez Acoustic-Electric Guitar with a few extras. It is designed for the first time guitar buyer in mind, and it accomplishes that mission readily. Value is great!! I can't stress this enough. Compared to the guitars at my local music store at the same price point, this is great bargain. It got my wife and I playing right away with all the basics that we needed.

So I wanted a cheap acoustic-electric with a name I recognized. I came across this setup and thought "Wow, and Ibanez with the amp and all this extra stuff for 200 bucks? I'm in!" The black look and the cutaway style looks great, the on-board tuner is a big plus and the amp definitely holds its own, but once I started to play this black beauty, my hopes were dashed,as was a little skin from my fingers. The fretwork is terrible, buzzing up and down the neck. The frets stuci out so much they cut my "barring" finger! If you look down the edge of the neck it looks like a picket fence! I'm taking it to my local luthier to try to get this thing survivable, and the total I'll end up spending could have gotten me a decent Takamine. Live & Learn...

AWESOME GUITAR, AWESOME PRICE

Comments about Ibanez IJAE5 JamPack Jolt/SE Acoustic-Electric Guitar Pack:

if you know a guy looking to get a great guitar to impress everyone who comes over this is it.
I got this from my wife for my bday. She new I wanted it cause I saw in the catalog and new these kind of deal don't come often. I've played guitar for over 20 years and this is the best guitar per buck I ever got. I opened it and started playing it right out of the box, everything worked perfectly and the instrument and amp sound great. Typical strap and strings included. Chucked the other stuff.
Now as far as craftsmenship it looks sleek as the pictures. It feels sturdy under a pounding. I did notice fret glue here and there, and the foam sheet wrapped around it during shipping left a grittiness on the back's finish, but it'll polish off.
All in all it's a great guitar for anyone with big ands. I noticed this is being sold to beginners and females, but I can tell you the neck's action and width is best suited for a grown man. For girls and young people I would recommend a smaller and thinner necked guitar. Just putting that out there from my experience and as a part time instructor. Well worth the money. I would suggest this pack is worth more, but I wouldn't have paid that! The title says it all.
there was some fret glue visible on the sides of the neck and fretboard, I'll polish it off. the amp, guitar strings and bag are of the general standard, very pleasing and familiar.
best bang for bucks ever

Comments about Ibanez IJAE5 JamPack Jolt/SE Acoustic-Electric Guitar Pack:

THe quality is great and gave me everything I needed to start learning!! The dvd was pretty basic, but teaches you a couple of chords and scales, along with some tuning and picking tips. It was good for me to start with, so i could go into my first lesson with some knowledge. The amp is pretty good. The tuner is great, but for mine you have to plug in the cable to tune. You don't have to plug it into the amp, but it needs to complete the circut. It's a little annoying but i'm willing to do that. The tuning keys are pretty good, i almost never tune mine. overall, this was a great starter guitar!
This was pretty good but it should have protection for the finish.
Great for a starter!!!
Great price for what's offered!!!

Ibanez quality

By Woodsplitter

Comments about Ibanez IJAE5 JamPack Jolt/SE Acoustic-Electric Guitar Pack:

First of all: Evidently the reviewers complaining about action and strings have never bought a guitar before. Listen up: Every new guitar you buy will need to be set up to the players liking, and strings changed for the same reason. If it's your first guitar face up to the fact that you will have to change strings, trying out different brands, gauges, etc. before you find what you like, and that will cost you some extra cash. Stop crying, it's part of calling yourself a guitarist.I bought this guitar pack for my 18 yo to take to college. I had the strings changed and a complete set-up job done on it. First-timers note: This will cost you around 80 to 85 bucks - get over it. The guitar is EXCELLENT for the purpose I bought it. It has great tone, action, workmanship, and the amp is a quality piece - not a cheap afterthought. The tuner doesn't work unless you put a plug in the jack, otherwise you would be crying about having to buy batteries every couple days. Leave the cord plugged in to the guitar and you will learn about Ibanez's consideration for your battery money.I'm 60, have been playing since 9th grade. I have some VERY NICE guitars!!! This Ibanez is tough, and will stand being thrown around a college dorm room and still perform like a quality instrument. But, it still has great tone. This is a great guitar if you know how to buy and prep a quality piece. I would recommend it to any and everyone as a first class starter guitar.

Great Overall Bang for your Buck

By Cp7kgyTlJ

Comments about Ibanez IJAE5 JamPack Jolt/SE Acoustic-Electric Guitar Pack:

I was given this specific gig pack by Ibanez a few years ago for Christmas, and it gets played more than the other 7 guitars in my house do all together! It is somewhat quiet because of the smaller body style, and I really wish it had a pick guard. Other than that though, this guitar is great. The action is normal, it stays in tune very well, and the built in tuner is really neat. The amp it came with really surprised me as well. I played "Hotel California" and "Folsom Prison Blues" with this amp and guitar at a talent show with an lead guitarist who had a rather large amplifier, a drummer, and a bassist, and everyone said they could hear me just fine. You can tell that the guitar is not one of your high dollar Martins or Taylors, but if you are looking for something that's priced right and everything that comes with it functions properly, you won't be dissapointed.

Figure the cost of a setup into your price

By Andrew Davie

from Colorado

Comments about Ibanez IJAE5 JamPack Jolt/SE Acoustic-Electric Guitar Pack:

This is a great pack for a beginning learner, but bring it to your local shop for a setup! Brand new, I was getting terrible buzzing until I brought it to my local luthier. He had to place a shim under the bridge and do some major truss rod tightening, which improved the playability. He said the frets are much too high, and that fixing those will be another $80, but he recommended saving that money towards a higher quality instrument for the future. Overall, the pack is great deal; the DVD is very helpful, and the amp sounds good too.

Comments about Ibanez IJAE5 JamPack Jolt/SE Acoustic-Electric Guitar Pack:

After playing bass for 4 years, I decided that I wanted to learn guitar. This is a fantastic deal. After some neck adjustments and some nice strings, this plays much better than a starter guitar and I've had friend who have been playing guitar years offering to buy it. Definitely recommend this guitar to anyone wanting to learn guitar or just a good acoustic.

No Lemon Here

Comments about Ibanez IJAE5 JamPack Jolt/SE Acoustic-Electric Guitar Pack:

I bought my jam pack about 2 weeks ago and have been practicing and checking out all the gripes and complaints that had me leery of making my purchase. Perhaps some people may have had problems due to shipping issues. I found the appearance and quality to be very good. I found the sound quality whether in acoustic or electric is awesome. The Amplifier is superb for small hall and home practice. The issues about the built in tuner requiring connection is not exactly correct. I would suggest that if you plug in the cable to the guitar without the amplifier you will find that electronic tuning is available. Apparently there is a micro switch built in at the cable jack that completes circuit to battery pack. WooHoo! The training DVD is awesome. I picked up were I could go as far as I could and then found other on line lessons more suited to my level of beginner. I never played a guitar, and I have practiced for 10 days, and I am doing simple E-min to G progressions and playing, with typical beginner problems (muting of strings) but I can play Runaway Train by Soul Asylum after 11 days. I think that is pretty good. I am so happy; I took the leap and gave this package a chance. I have had no problems with strings or any such problems mentioned here. I give it 2 thumbs up and if your thinking about getting this, I say go for it!

Good for beginners...

By Stephmeister705

Comments about Ibanez IJAE5 JamPack Jolt/SE Acoustic-Electric Guitar Pack:

This was the first acoustic guitar I ever owned, and back then I thought it was a pretty great guitar. In hindsight, it was a piece of junk, however, it was excellent as a starter guitar and even forced me to be a better guitarist because the action was set so high. All in all, I wold highly recommend this to first-time guitarists, but if you're buying the second time around, get a tak or a low-end taylor.

Comments about Ibanez IJAE5 JamPack Jolt/SE Acoustic-Electric Guitar Pack:

I bought this guitar for my wife to learn on. I was taken back by the quality of this guitar which was more then I expected. The amp that come with this creates a clean sound with more then enough volume for a beginner. The onboard tuner feature is a plus. This guitar hold its tune very well and the action is that of a high quality unit. Like the other Electric Jam pack from Ibanez, I would recommend buying a better cord and strings (but that is to be expected). Go ahead and buy this, it is a great product at an affordable price.

A DISSAPOINTMENT

By Anonymous

Comments about Ibanez IJAE5 JamPack Jolt/SE Acoustic-Electric Guitar Pack:

I bought this guitar right after christmas of '09. It was my 3rd guitar and it didn't last near as long as my other guitars and my other guitars I picked up at Wal-Mart! The amp was great and so was everything else. However, my friend bought this guitar as well and it also broke shortly after he bought it with a massive gash between where the neck meets the body. I also experienced this fault. It didn't last me long. If you want Ibanez, they have some really good electrics, but they should keep out of acoustics.

Comments about Ibanez IJAE5 JamPack Jolt/SE Acoustic-Electric Guitar Pack:

I got this guitar recently for Christmas. I had already owned an electric Ibanez and decided to go with Ibanez again. I found that it was a bit hard to play, being used to an electric. I am also considering replacing the strings. Other than that, it's a great guitar for just playing at home and for beginners.
