A while ago, I became interested in guitars and decided I wanted to play guitar myself. I researched the guitar, read reviews, and asked store retailers about various guitars, famous guitarists and the equipment they play, and what guitars sound and play well. I considered several guitar beginner value packages, including two Ibanez packs, two Squier packs, a Peavey guitar package, and yet another package from ESP. I had narrowed my selection down to two: (a) the Squier StratPak, and (b) the Ibanez JS40 Jumpstart package. I purchased the Ibanez package in early May. When I received my guitar (a very nice Metallic Red color), I was very pleased. The finish is nice, the two single-coil, one humbucking pickup configuration sounds good, the neck is smooth and feels good, the action is good, and the fret and nut work is very good for a value-priced guitar. But most importantly, the guitar is enjoyable to play. In the few months I've been playing, I have continued to practice many riffs and chords with my guitar, and have progressed very well. My only complaint is very minor; the strings that come with the guitar aren't great, so I replaced mine with Ernie Ball strings and they play well. This may be the best beginner package you can buy. The guitar that comes with this package is better than the guitar in the Squier packs; I've played them both. The amp that comes with the pack is awesome. It sounds good clean, and has roaring, excellent distortion. The other included items, such as the gig bag, tuner, cable, strap, video, picks, and booklet are all quality accesories. If you purchase this package, you will not be disappointed. It is a great value at a great price.

I rushed into buying this package. Looking back, I wish I had saved my money just a little bit longer and gotten a standard strat, and worried about the amp later. Since I bought the package, I've purchased a much bigger amp. The package amp is a good amp, for practice only! Don't even think about playing live for anyone. You should probably just connect the headphones and leave it that way, if you want any volume that is. Out of the box, it sounded great, a few months later was a different story. The neck pickup is extremely fuzzy, so I try to stay away from it. The humbucker is strong though. I say, save your money and get a better guitar. If you're a begginner you don't have to worry about playing live for a while. Get a good guitar, worry about the amp later. Don't rush!

This is a pretty good starter pack for beginners. The humbucker in the bridge puts distortion on pretty well. DO NOT judge single coil pickups by the ones in the middle and neck. Fender single coils are much hotter and better sounding. The amp and accesories are disgraceful, but neccescary. The amp sounds decent with a good OD or distortion pedals. good quality, but alot of feedback and harmonics.
This was my first electric guitar. I knew Ibanez was a good brand but since this was cheaper i thought i would get a lower value guitar. But it surprised me to this day i still use it when my band plays i love the way it sounds.I won't give it 10 stars because the cable sucks it actually stopped working in the middle of a gig. the tuner is ok and the amp too.I also had the problem with the strings breaking evry second but afterwards i got tht fixed. I have played with allot of fenders from squiere to strat but i still prefer this one just because of the way it feels in my hands.
i bought this package 4 months ago and its the best money i have spent in a long time. the guitar is easy to play. the amp has good distortion. i suggest you upgrade to a better cable (george l's) and a better strap. but overall this is an excellent value!!
The value of this pack is incredible not only for new musicians but even for us older players as well. 10 watt amp(which I use when writing) can be outragously expensive by themselves not to mention the guitar which has a kick ass sound for the price. Plus instructions from Paul Gilbert a top 20 guitarist. A fine value and great pack for new players.
I got this pack for a starter a while back. Its a great choice for beginners and young musicians. Everything a guitarist needs is included. Ibanez still hasnt failed me.
I have owned this guitar for about two weeks now and I love it. I really like the size of the guitar and the clear sound the amp produces. It also comes with some great headphones and anything else you would need. However if you chose Metallic Blue as the color be aware that it is actually darker than the one in the picture on the website, it is almost a purple. But this is a great guitar and I strongly recommend it.
This is a good starter pack for anybody interested in playing guitar. I received mine as a Christmas gift. Many thanks to the wife!Anyway, the guitar itself is VERY nice for this price point and the amp is just ok. I have the black one. It has a very slick finish and the fretboard and neck are quite smooth. The amp is constructed well but you will quickly find that you need just a little more as your skills improve. My stap, headphones, and cord work fine but the tuner gets the low E and A strings wrong every time so I have to tune those by ear to the DVD which itself is also ok but I would recomend the series from Rockhouse Method. All in all, I am happy with this pack but I know I will have to upgrade quickly as I get better at playing.
this guitar is easy to play and the instructional dvd is great for beginers. the overall package is probably the best quality and you get the most for what you pay for.
I wrote a review of this kit right after I bought it. I still think it's a great beginners kit. The amp really isn't much. Upgrade to a Vox Pathfinder or Valvetronic 15 watt. The pickups are good, but switch to Fender Yexas single coils and a DiMarzio humbucker for great sound. Replace the tuners with Schaller locking type and get some Fender light bullets. You'll have a guitar to be proud of. The minor accessories ****, but what do you expect from a value pac? So, if you are a beginner, start with this kit and build it as you grow.
I bought this guitar a few years ago when only the amp, case and guitar were the items in the package. The amp is fine, however, the guitar's tuning knobs became stuck, causing one of the pickups to go out. I opened the cover to find that one of the pickup wires tore away from the knob's internal metal wheel. Hence, my pickup selector switch won't work on one of the pickups. Now it won't play at all. The guitar worked fairly well until that point, and I probably just received a lemon. I am disappointed, because I wanted a brand name in Ibanez, but got a poor guitar.
