The IJX40 is my first and only electric guitar, as well as my only electric guitar gear. I got it about 4 or 5 years ago as a gift, but I stopped playing about a year or two after. Now I'm getting back into guitar, and I have been playing more often. The guitar itself is pretty nice. Mine has a few self inflicted scratches and dings in it, but it plays the same. However, the neck has a lot of small scratches on it, and near the 7th fret, a very large one. They don't seem to affect the sound though. The equipment the guitar came with is average. The amp serves my purposes (messing around) just fine, but it is limited in what it can do. The overdrive produces very bad buzz and feed back, and sometimes a screeching noises if the tone knob on the guitar is turned to 10.My cord still works, and the strings worked well until I tried to tune to Drop C. The high E string snapped, and I had to replace it. The stock strings are rather dull, and sometimes buzz. The tuner is HORRIBLE. It doesn't even work, besides a light turning on, and it doesn't pick up noise at all. The book that comes with it has a few classic songs and riffs in it, so it is ok. The picks that come with are too flimsy, though, and are more or less unusable. The strap and gig bag are ok as well.Overall, this a good guitar, but the equipment with it is below average.

This was my first electric guitar and it was great for a little while. But when i used the tremolo bar twice it snapped off. It LITERALLY snapped off. The pick ups are very buzzy and after a month of owning this the amp chord it came with just stopped working. The input jack on the guitar gets loose and after a while it gets annoying no matter how hard you tighten the nut. It makes a loud squeaky noise and it makes the best amps sound terrible (I used this on a line 6 spider iv 120W amp it sounded terrible!). I dropped the headphones on my carpetted floor and it broke! The strings broke in a week, and i really dont want to change them because it is like polishing a peice of garbage. It comes with a nice set of picks and the amp is pretty decent for practice. This guitar was fun while it lasted. It's an okay kit for beginners who play rock and punk music. Not really great for metal music so it wasn't made for me. I may suggest beginning guitarists to buy a beginner Squier or Epiphone with a small 15 watt amp and stay away from jumpstart packs. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

    Great deal for starters

    By Amir Arbel

    from Israel

Everything in the pack, except for the guitar and the amplifier, is completely worthless. The strings broke within a week, so did the strap, the cable didn't sit well and had to be replaced. If you really are just starting out, the CD and the small pamphlet that came with it is fine for about three weeks, but otherwise you'd have to get a real guitar learning lessons. Or just learn by yourself.
Guitar didn't come with a whammy bar; bad strings.
However the pickups are great and after messing a bit with the connection it sounds awesome.
The amplifier itself has a pretty great gain and saves buying a pedal for a while.
Overall quality of the main items is fine.
    Definitly bang for the buck.

Good starter package, room for improvement.

As a teenage musician who had been playing acoustics since grade school, I decided that I wanted to try out electrics for a change. I've always been a big fan of Fender, and it looks kind of like the Strat so I thought it was the one for me. It was great, but had a sound that was a little to heavy for my liking. I liked how the higher frets were easy to reach. But I outgrew it fast, and needed to upgrade. The strings broke quickly, as did the strap, the cable was disappointing, and the tremolo bar was weak. But, if you are trying to decide whether or not to get your starting musician this package, I would do it. I had previous experience so it was a little bit below my standards, but all-in-all it was fun.

    GREAT guitar!

I have had this guitar since christmas of '10 and i gotta say, this guitar is AWWMAYZANG! I got the jewel blue finish and it looks beautiful. It is very comfortable to play it sounds great, the distortion has impressed me. Kind of small but it fits me almost perfectly. Some are complaining that the strings break too easily... They have to clean it so the perspiration doesn't affect the strings. I highly recommend this guitar for beginners! :D

    For Beginners Only

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

I've owned this for nearly a year now, & when they say that it's for a beginner, they mean it's for a beginner. The cord & tuner weren't good past 2 weeks. Replace them immediately. The amp is the only thing in the package that will be helpful for a LONG time. The guitar has muddy pick-ups, so bad that sometimes I can't switch strings without the pick-ups creating a screeching sound. I was going to get a new amp, but after getting a Squier Affinity Strat, I realized that it was the guitar, not the amp. But when I 1st goe the guitar, I didn't notice it. It sounds fine with no gain at all though, but that isn't in my style of playing. So if you do pick this up, it's great to start, but don't expect it to be suitable after a year or so. Replace the guitar before the amp, makes a LOT of difference

    Great Great Beginner Guitar

    By Cieminy

    from PA

I got this as my first guitar around 2 years ago. So far it's been great. The only problems I've had with it are the tuning heads. They seem to get a little loose from time to time, but all had to do was tighten them up and everything was fine. The stock strings weren't very good at all, so i replaced them with Ernie Ball Super Slinkies at the advice of a local guitar store. The pickups are decent. If you're looking for something heavier, go with the Ibanez Metal Jumpstart Pack. The guitar has dual-humbuckers which is better for heavy distortion. The accessories are so-so. The tuner and the headphones we're plain awful, but the picks I rather liked, and the little bag i still use. Also the gig back is totally rugged. It can take a beating. The amp is the perfect practice amp. Not to complicated, but enough features to keep you busy. This package is SUPER for anyone looking to start playing, or anyone who wants some cheap practice equipment.

    An Excellent Buy

    By k0re0

The guitar in this package was the first I had ever owned, or even really played. Over three years have gone by since then, and this guitar still plays smoothly. The action is nice and low, and the amplifier is a good 15 watts, a great practice amp. In my opinion, its good for both beginners and serious guitarists.

    Great for beginners

    By TJW 7214

I was shopping for my 9 yr old son a guitar/amp package and found myself eyeballing this one. Lets be realistic, it's not a pro grade rig, but perfect for my boy to learn on. I had to set it up, but with minimal work, it actually plays pretty well. I wouldn't pick it over one of MY much more expensive guitars, but my boy loves it. Well worth the money.

    Actually Pretty Good

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

For just starting out, this guitar is actually pretty decent. The humbucker gives a clean enough tone and gives you some volume. But, despite that, there are some things that aren't that great about it. The headstock can't take even a slight bump without at least one string going out of tune. If you put the gain on the amp above half, all you get when you're not playing & volume at any level is a high-pitched buzzing. The output jack was loose, but it was only a $5 fix. Do NOT try to go passed drop C# tuning, or else you'll get sound from the low E hitting the frets from the vibration. But, all in all, it is pretty easy to play, the compact size is a HUGE plus, and it has very good tone. If you're starting out, this guitar is for you.

    Great Guitar!

    By GIOBro

I got this about 4 or 5 years ago and so far all it needed is a new input jack. I broke the headphones after 3 years, but that was by throwing them... Great amp, love the overdrive. Overall, a good begginner guitar.
