A formidable array of technical features specified by Steve Vai.

The Ibanez JEM7V Steve Vai Signature Electric Guitar is a top-of-the-line 6-string solidbody capable of exploring the most extreme sonic territories at any speed. The 5-piece maple/walnut neck is super-smooth for easy riffing and incredibly strong and stable with a lead-friendly thin and flat profile. A 25-1/2" scale and bolt-on neck joint get you lots of bass and treble response with a quick, precise attack. A 43mm nut provides comfortable string spacing and 24 jumbo frets deliver greater range while the recessed tremolo provides right-hand playing comfort and allows notes to be radically raised as well as lowered. The alder body produces clear, full-bodied vintage tone that serves all your needs from chunky rhythms to searing leads. A trio of screaming DiMarzio Evolution pickups (humbuckers at the neck and bridge with a custom single-coil in the mid position), coupled with Split-5 wiring give you all the tonal diversity you crave. And of course, there's Vai's signature Monkey Grip on the bass-side body wing.

Alder body

Best known as the body wood for the classic single coil, bolt on neck guitar, alder produces clear, full bodied vintage tone that works well for lead or rhythm work.

Rosewood fingerboard

Rosewood offers a strong, bright sound and an attractive appearance with a long grain.

DiMarzio Evolution humbuckers

The Evolution neck and bridge humbuckers are the result of 2 years of research to come up with the right sound for a very demanding player and his axe: Steve Vai and his Ibanez JEMs. Both pickups are designed for maximum impact and power. The neck pickup is fat, punchy and loud. The bridge pickup is tight, aggressive and louder. Both pickups have a patented dual-resonance configuration to reproduce more harmonic overtones than conventional humbuckers. The Evolution pickups were originally designed with live gigs in mind, but they have so much presence and definition that they're great recording pickups, too; they slice right through even the densest mix.

Overall this is the best guitar I have ever played and until someone comes up with something better, well........

If you want a great playing, great sounding, FANTASTIC looking ax, then look no further.
This is my 3rd Jem 7(sold one and had one stolen at a gig ). I own 28 guitars right now which include a gibson gold top reissue, 2 custom shop strats, a John Surh rear route, a couple of Epiphones, and a few off brand frankenstien project guitars not to mention my Martin and Taylor acoustics. The Jem 7 blows them all away. Great tone, great playability, very hot output from the EVO pickups, and the looks of the white on gold have no other rivals anywhere. I've been an active playing guitarist for over 34 years playi ng any thing from country to heavy metal and this guitar can do it all(I only wish I had had one of these back in 1978 ).

I've read some of the reviews about the price of the guitar. I really can't see how anyone can say that this fantastic guitar is too pricey when Gibson is selling their guitars for almost double the price of the Jem 7. As I stated earlier I own a Les Paul and paid a lot for it but in my opinion the Jem is the better guitar in all respects. You get what you pay for and this guitar is well worth any price!!! I highly recommend this ax to anyone who has a discerning eye for beauty, a good ear for excellent tone, and the chops to realize what a great player this guitar is.

I bought one of these and the quality was lacking. The edges of the frets were not filed properly and the top E string would get caught everytime I played. I returned the first one for a different one (same model) and the frets buzzed. Otherwise a beautiful-looking guitar. People couldn't help but stare as they walked by and saw it in the red plush case. The vine inlays are nice-looking but they are made of plastic.

Comments about Ibanez JEM7V Steve Vai Signature Electric Guitar:

This is a very good guitar, it is very fun to play, and it sounds incredible. However aside from the great looks, and the improved electronics, I have played my RG-450 side by side with the JEM and I have to say that the RG may still have the JEM on playability. I'm not sure if I'm just not used to the JEM yet, even though i've been playing it for a few months, I just feel free'r on the RG. I think I might sell this guitar back and use the refund to beef up the RG's electronics... I've had my RG for about 15 years and it may not look like much, but it is a workhorse!

Back to the JEM, if you've got the money to spend and you want a great looking/sounding guitar with little to no room for improvement right out of the box, I would strongly recommend this guitar. If you are on a budget, I would recommend looking at some of Ibanez's cheaper models that are in the same family, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Buyer beware!

By Razor777

Comments about Ibanez JEM7V Steve Vai Signature Electric Guitar:

First off, this instrument is WAY over-priced! For the same amount of money, you could have a Suhr Modern, which would be far superior to this instrument. The quality just isn't there for what you pay. I've played one of these models extensively and I was very disappointed with it. The craftsmanship, fit and finish, tone, etc just could not compare with my Suhr Modern for similar cost. If you buy this model, you will have made a grave mistake that will haunt you.

Comments about Ibanez JEM7V Steve Vai Signature Electric Guitar:

I bought that guitar like a 2 weeks ago, and i opened 3 days ago, and i saw the guitar was used. The pickguard came with scratches. The strings appear just a little bit old. So, i didnt complain it because i hate to return the guitar and take another one, much time. But i really paid the price for the new one, and i have 1 used like a new...

Best guitar I have ever played Glad I own it!!!!

By Paul Richards

from Seattle, WA

Comments about Ibanez JEM7V Steve Vai Signature Electric Guitar:

It may not be made in America but it plays way better than any other new or vintage guitar I have ever played on. The pickups are ridiculously sensitive so you might have to dial them away from the strings a bit. The floyd rose system is perfect. I can pick it up with the tremolo bar and everything is still perfectly in tune. My only problem is that it has to be set up for the string gauge you are using and pretty much just one tuning too but thats what you get with a floyd rose. If you own this guitar and get a good guitar with a fixed bridge you can pretty much play it all!!! Really fun to play!

If it's good enough for Steve...

By Gelbkreuz

from Chicago

Comments about Ibanez JEM7V Steve Vai Signature Electric Guitar:

I decided on the JEM after comparing it against the Jackson soloist (SLH), the Fender HSS, and a range of others (including other RGs).My desire was to find a guitar with wide tonal range that was first and foremost easy to play, light weight, could accept low action without buzzing, had a very good neck, and had a good trem. My criteria did NOT include vintage reproductions (but interestingly, it has good sound compared to a 62 strat reissue). I love the guitar. It is a bit too pricey though.

Great guitar

Comments about Ibanez JEM7V Steve Vai Signature Electric Guitar:

I own a Line 6 Variax, an Ibanez JS 8000, and a Fender Strat 1957 commemoration. But this guitar beat all three of them when it came to playability and feel. It is pricey but definitely worth it.

Intoxicating

By Blake-L4nLN

from Mississippi

Comments about Ibanez JEM7V Steve Vai Signature Electric Guitar:

After leaving the Gibson guitar factory in Memphis I've realized that the Ibanez Jem is probably the best guitar I will ever play. Compared to the Gibson's this guitar sounds as good; the way it plays on the other hand is unlike any guitar I've ever played. The Jem is a guitar that makes your playing faster and more precise, I can't explain why I can just tell you what I felt. I wish I could afford one, unfortunately these things cost a pretty penny (and a few thousand dollars added to that). Theres a reason behind this, and theres a reason that so many people buy these in spite of the price. Also the guitar isn't that bad looking.
