OVERVIEW

Exquisite craftsmanship on a super-fast, lean, and resonant tone machine with amazing electronics.

If fast solos and sweet tone are your thing, you'll love the Ibanez JS1200 Joe Satriani Signature Guitar. It took Ibanez many years to create guitars that would satisfy the Master of Tone, and the result is superb! Precision-sculpted basswood body is light on the shoulder with otherworldly looks and great high-fret access. Its vibrant resonance is translated into endless sustain through DiMarzio humbuckers -- a PAF Joe at the neck and a Fred at the bridge. Screamin' fast JS Prestige maple neck features smaller 6105 frets and tighter radius on a rosewood fretboard. Dive bomb with aplomb on the Edge bridge.

I've tried every guitar out there trying to find the one guitar that would fulfill all my needs. I'm talking very expensive Strats, Teles, Jems, Les Paul and many others. I love the sound of the Strats, but didn't like the way any of them played. I loved the whammy set up on Ibanez, but the necks felt too thin. I had finally decided I would have to get multiple guitars to get the sounds and feels I was looking for. I never tried the JS series because I had also decided that signature series guitars were not for me after not quite feeling the Jem or Stevie Ray Vaughn Strat were cutting it for me. Then one day I saw a JS1200 on Craig's List for a very reasonable price and ended up trading a Strat for it. I was and still am blown away by this guitar. The first time I picked it up I could immediately tell the neck fit in my hand like a glove. Then when I plugged it in I was again blown away. I swear to you, I am more inspired and play better on this guitar than my RGs. Then when I pulled up the volume knob and switched to the neck pickup...WOW, instant Strat tone. I finally found the ultimate guitar. I could now have one guitar and find all the tones I am looking for. I use a Mesa Mini Rec through some pedals and a 2x12. I can't believe I over looked this guitar for so many years. I guess I always thought they looked kind of plain and were too expensive. My loss up until now. This guitar has an amazing amount of possible tones. I can't say enough good things about it and I know Ibanez guitars are built to last as I have had an RG that is still kicking after 23 years of abuse. If in doubt, I would highly recommend giving this guitar a try.

This guitar is great except for the neck plate on the back of the body. Its about an 1/8th of an inch thick and it really gets in the way of your hand while you are playing on the upper frets. I think you might be able to remove the plate and get some shorter screws so they would not come through the neck. Personally, just buy an S series, it plays about the same and you can upgrade the pickups if they aren't to your liking and you will save cash too...

Comments about Ibanez JS1200 Joe Satriani Signature Guitar:

This guitar is the one. I've have American made Fender Strat, Peavey Wolfgangs, new EVH Fender custom shop Wolfgangs, Jackson DK1. All excellent guitars. But this is the one I come back to. The neck is faster than anything I've played or own. The versatility is absolutely crazy. From blues, to jazz, to Van Halen to Metallica. Everything about this guitar is exceptional. You cannot go wrong with this purchase. And considering the price, the value is excellent. 3000 for EVH, 1800 for Jackson DK1, this guitar is a steal!

Comments about Ibanez JS1200 Joe Satriani Signature Guitar:

I never write reviews, never, but this guitar is outstanding in every sense. I have a Les Paul Custom, and Eric Johnson Strat and a few others. This guitar defines the term "Play ability". A lightning fast neck and tone that I will put up against my Les Paul anytime. I really love the candy-apple red color. It is inspiring and I reach for this one over my other guitars all of the time.

Comments about Ibanez JS1200 Joe Satriani Signature Guitar:

it lets me play everything ive ever wanted and it is super fast to play love the radius of the neck too
Ok So its got 22 frets, locking trem and nut rosewood board over a maple neck, gotah tuners, push pull nobs (more on those later) low friction volume and tone nob three way pickup selector switch.
out of the factory i noticed that the tr4em sits slightly more to one side of the cavity, however this does not really affect playability, check out rich at Ibanez Rules he talked alot about every guitar having to have adjustments madde to it no maztter how good they are . the paint was beauiful candy apple red. all the screws were nice and tight out of the factory. the neck was straight as heck too!!
pretty expensive but u get the ability to sound like a strat with the coil split and jhighpass filter

    So easy to play

    By Positively Dark

    from Green Bay, WI

Comments about Ibanez JS1200 Joe Satriani Signature Guitar:

I am not much of a guitar player and have only learned by watching guitar instruction DVDs. My main instrument is a studio full of synthesizers. For the past couple of years I have been learning on a Mexican made Fender fat strat. I like the guitar but it always felt too big for my hands in the neck and I had difficulty reaching notes for many chords. It was also kind of noisy and made a lot of hum. So, as a birthday present to myself I decided to try a completely different guitar type and I bought a JS 1200. All I can say is I am in love. It feels so much better than the fender strat and reaching chords is now easy. The JS 1200 just feels perfect as it was custom made to fit my hands and fingers. For sound, it is amazing. I hate how noisy my fender is but the JS 1200 is so quiet. No hum at all. And of course the sound quality is beyond belief. I thought I had made a dumb mistake by spending so much for a guitar because I suck at playing, but now I feel that I made one of the best investments of my life. All I can say is buy one. A JS 1200 is the feeling and sound of guitar perfection.

Sig Satriani - Nectar of the Gods

    By My2cents

Comments about Ibanez JS1200 Joe Satriani Signature Guitar:

I have just turned off my amplifier and put my JS1200ca back on its stand and once again I am astounded at how good this guitar is. Without exaggeration it is inspiring. It beckons you to keep playing, it rewards you with sweet articulation and beautiful harmonics and tone, tone, TONE!!! There is not really much else to say other than this guitar is pound for pound as good as any guitar on the market; PRS, Gibson... this thing will hold its own in ANY company. Versatile enough to play sweet and dirty blues with the pickup splitter and then all that sweet (not noisy or harsh) tone with the humbuckers in full noise. I have found that with the JS I play with much less gain, the guitar just uses what ever is dialed in so well, you don't need to feed it much. Just plug it in, turn it UP, close your eyes and listen to this beauty, it just sings and sings.Obviously I'm a massive JS fan, but if you are considering this guitar, forget about the man who's name is on it or what brand it is, just go to your local store pick one up, plug it in and play it - even strait off the shelf and see for yourself.AMAZING Guitar. 5 Stars all around.

Seems like this was a great choice!!!

    By jaromir mikel

Comments about Ibanez JS1200 Joe Satriani Signature Guitar:

it has been 2weeks since this guitar came to me, so I am now finding out all about it..it is quite a short period of time to make any final conclussions but I can really say this - every following day I play it, I become more familiar with it and I am able to play much far beyond my strat limits (I own the S.R.V. strat)..this guitar is getting under my skin,people..
it sounds very good, it is not a classical metal weapon (I am glad for that) , though you can of course play metal with it, no biggy, but it has rather rock and bluesy feel (as Joe says he wanted a guitar with a vintage feel - so it is!!!) but still it is pretty agressive. it has a very good articulation, plays very concrete even with a very high gain. very versatile guitar, with the coils split you get more sound possibilities, if you do work with the Volume knob - even more..
the only problem is with the trem - it is not 100% reliable, does not come back to its "zero" position, it needs some help (I orderred the Goldo backbox, which I hope will do the right job).
the neck is very comfortable, great acces to all possitions, I am impressed with this instrument - although it was not a love at first sight - at the second it is!!!!
there is NOTHING to point at - the finish is perfect, the frets are well cleaned off, maybe the knobs are much too easy to turn around, but it is just my own feeling
I think this guitar will pay you back every cent you spent on it!!!

pretend you're joe satriani: amazing electric guitar

    By Sonya G

    from Brooklyn

Comments about Ibanez JS1200 Joe Satriani Signature Guitar:

Overall, I love Joe a lot.
I think the most unique feature is the split pickups on this guitar. They've been really fun to experiment with. This is my first and only electric, having started on a nylon string classical acoustic. I actually had my eye on a Fender but this is the red guitar I call "Joe" (not very original, I know, but a Joe I know did show me some of my first chords ever).
Good sound, can be delicate and can be loud. Crank it to 11, or keep it at 4. "Street Spirit Fadeout" is the most fun to play.
This instrument will last my guitar-playing life!

    Satch boogie in red

    By Chromeaxe

    from Gilbert, AZ

Comments about Ibanez JS1200 Joe Satriani Signature Guitar:

Well just got this baby in. This is my second Ibanez after owning a roadstar series II. This is a great machine. Shape, color, sound and price. Out of the box and no problem. The only thing I will do is lower the action just a bit, still very comfortable neck. Sounds great, nice clean and crunch out of the DiMarzios, the bridge is as tight as my screamin' demon on my Strat. The neck is very thin and easy to play on for fast solo Satriani style. The red is great eventhough I wish they had made a transparent red like the js100, looks really cool. Overall, great instrument with plenty of features and tone capabilities, if only I had kept my Marshall half-stack!!! Don't hesitate it is a fine investment, Peace...

    Incredible

Comments about Ibanez JS1200 Joe Satriani Signature Guitar:

This guitar is fantastic. The multi-radius neck allows extremly easy playing and comfort. The neck is a little fatter than your average Ibanez, but makes up for it with it's multi-radius. The sound is amazing, very versatile. It's a contribution of the DiMarzio Pickups and the craftmanship of the guitar. It's coil tab allows a even wider range of tones. I don't like comparing one guitar to another, I think every guitar is different in it's own way, but I feel the JS has the feel of Vintage Strat, the sought after grind of the 62' Les Pauls and 50's Stratocasters. This guitar is for people who want a vintage feeling guitar with a incredible sound, and be able to make the transition from shredding to a heartfelt blues solo. The JS is a pleasure to play, hear, and enjoy.

Comments about Ibanez JS1200 Joe Satriani Signature Guitar:

The action is spot-on, comes with a killer case, the PAF Joes and Fred p/u's in combo to the dual volume and tone pots run thru even a minimal practice amp, and the JS1200 gets me there. The instruction manual was a bit vague in places, tho'.(my only gripe) After playin an Ibanez RsII til it melted down, the JS1200 truly makes me feel like I'd been playin a toy for too many years. The candy red finish is just plain sexy/sensuous eye-candy too. My JS's worth every bit of scratch, and then some. Whether you're a wanna-be, a gonna-be, or a has-been, the JS1200? Buy!

Comments about Ibanez JS1200 Joe Satriani Signature Guitar:

First of all, let me say the picture on this website does not do this guitar justice. The headstock has a Gold Ibanez on it, and it comes up as a gaudy yellow. The red is not as deep in the picture as well. Once you get it out of the box it is an amazing metallic cherry red. Just food for thought if you are skeptical. It simply looks amazing. I like to play anything that sounds good, and as much Satriani as possible. My Gear Setup:Amp: Marshall MG100HDFX through 4x12 Marshall cabPedals: The main pedal I use is a Boss Metal Zone (MT-2). If you set it to the aggressive thrash metal setting it is real comparable to Joe's tone. I also use a Dunlop Crybaby wah on a few of his songs.Strings: Right now I have the stock strings on it, they seem good but I am not sure what they are. D'Addario maybe, since that is what Joe plays? This guitar is really awesome. I have a Les Paul, Fender Strat, and now this. It is by far my favorite to play. It's playability and tone is just way too good not to.

Comments about Ibanez JS1200 Joe Satriani Signature Guitar:

Could'nt beleive the tone it sounded awsome right out of the box, Made nmy line 6 amp sound twice as good as the old ax220 Ibanez. even with new pickups. (air norton neck and air zone bridge.) Was disappointed with the mess of truss rod compound smeared around the inset hole, looked tacky. Top clamps were not tight Did not receive any manuals with her and the neck had a rough spot I had to work out. Brought it to my guitar teacher to set up properly and changed the strings from the stock 9-42 to 10 52. He had to install two more tremolo springs to compensate. Overall I love how it feels, like it has already been stated it fits like a glove and has actually made me a liitle better player.(not hard to do though) Was almost ready to buy the Eric Clapton Strat but am glad I have my cherry. Should'nt need another guitar ever, or so my wife hopes I won't.

Comments about Ibanez JS1200 Joe Satriani Signature Guitar:

Wow, a beautiful guitar. the candy apple red really does shine, unfortunately, the pic really doens't do it justice. The chrome harware really stands out better than the cosmo back on the 1000's. When i bought this guitar i wasn 't looking for something too heavy, and this was perfect. the PAF JOE in the neck is great for full chording, it keeps a nice clarity, even under heavy distortion. The Fred in the bridge has an increase in output, but not so much as say an evo, but the harmonics are unbelievable. The only thing that disappointed me was the downgrade from the lo-pro to the edge-pro, the edge pro is a great bridge, don't get me wrong, but it lacks the locking studs that the lo-pro's had back in '02. The high pass filter is awesome, when you engage this with the PAF on clean and a low volume, you can really get a nice full tone. i'm not a big fan of single coils so i haven't used the coil tap. All in all this is a great guitar, aside from the bridge (come on ibanez). I run this through a Crate BV120 head, along with a JEM and a Jackson RR5, the purchase of this guitar will conclude my collection for now.

Comments about Ibanez JS1200 Joe Satriani Signature Guitar:

If you are considering buying this guitar, go for it. Easily the best guitar I have ever used. Even though it is a little pricy, if you are a dedicated player or just have enough cash to invest in it, DO IT! While I tried it out, I also played many other signature and "great" guitars, but none came even close to the quality, sound or feel of this monster. Buy it and dont ever worry about the decision.
