Okay people, I'm gonna give it to you straight - This Ibanez rules! As others have pointed out, this is an excellent guitar! When you factor in the features and the price tag, well, you can't beat it with a stick. Or another guitar.

Back in '97 I bought an Ibanez RG470DX. As soon as I picked it up I knew there was something special about it. The wizard neck especially blew me away. It seemed like it was made for my hands, like it was made for me. Fast-forward 14 years and I found myself needing a new axe. I already knew that I was going to get another Ibanez RG, but what kind? Well folks, that's where I let the price and the features decide for me.

--PROS
24 fret wizard neck? Check. H-S-H pickup configuration? Check. Floyd-Rose style locking tremolo? Check. Sweet paint job and finish? Check.

Also there were a few improvments over the last RG I had. Of note are the pickups (INF3 INFS3 INF4) which sound great! The older INF1 and 2's weren't bad but these are definitely an improvement. I tend to play metal type riffs and rythms, and John Petrucci-esque leads. This guitar was made for metal, and it is right at home with it. That being said, selecting the middle single coil or a combo of that with the neck humbucker will give you some solid clean tones, and with distortion you can roll back the volume a little to get an acceptable bluesy sound.
Also, the new neck is even slimmer and faster than the old one. If your style(s) of music take you all over the fretboard like mine do, then you will really appreciate what they've done here.

--CONS
If I had any complaints to make about this guitar, then it would have to do with the tremolo system. In particular, the whammy bar doesn't lock in so it swings freely all the time. Also, I've noticed that after some heavy use or a deep dive bomb that it doesn't always return to the exact "zero" point. In other words, sometimes I gotta use the fine-tuners afterward. That was never a problem with the old Ibanez. Since I hardly ever use the whammy bar anyway that really isn't too much of a problem. I have a strong bend and vibrato and the guitar stays in tune fine during a normal daily use (roughly 2-4 hours).

--TL;DR
Buy this guitar! Great pickups, fast neck. The price is cheap enough for the novice, but has features that an expert can appreciate.

My band mate and friend Zach has this guitar and it is harder to setup then any guitar I have setup in my life. I mostly play Ibanez's with Floyd Roses, so that is not the problem. The problem is this guitar is a piece of crap and overpriced and takes 3 hours to change the strings and setup and then you realize it plays like crap so you spend another 3 hours.

Comments about Ibanez RG4EXQM1 Quilted Maple Top Electric Guitar:

Over all I'm very pleased with this guitar. I was a bit hesitant due to some of the comments about the tremolo, but I figured it out. It looks great, and it plays great! And has a hot paint job. I've gotten way more compliments to this guitar than I ever did to my strat.
A great feeling neck and action, and 2 humbuckers. I come from playing a SSS Fender Strat, and bought this as a practice guitar...turns out I like it better.
This thing is solid. Some people have complained about the tremolo...yeah it's PITA to tune initially....but if you do everything right...it stays in tune. Crack down on the two bolts for the bridge, keep tuning...make sure the strings are the right height from the neck (it's in the instruction manual)...crank down on the bridge a bit more...and eventually you will get it tuned...and it will stay that way even after using the tremolo.
Value...I got a smoking deal...and like this thing better than my Fender Strat that i've had for over 20 years. It just feels better, and suprisingly it cost less. Biggest bang for my buck that I've ever gotten.

For the money I would say its superior !!!
It's the best guitar i've ever played by far! I've been playing over 20 years, Gibson, Fender,Paul reed Smith etc. and for the money it beats them all hands down. I converted it into a Jem by putting on a pick guard, and spicing it up with new Dimarzio" Evolutions".

Comments about Ibanez RG4EXQM1 Quilted Maple Top Electric Guitar:

Ok, let me get this straight. I play rockabilly. One night, my Tele's volume pot broke. I ran to the guitar store because I had a gig the next night. I thought this looked too metal, but it played great. I put it in the middle positon through my fender bassman. This became my main guitar the next day. It's that good.

AWESOME GUITAR!

By Tyler Suggs

Comments about Ibanez RG4EXQM1 Quilted Maple Top Electric Guitar:

Overall this guitar is fantastic. If you're into metal go ahead and buy it!
I got this guitar a few months ago and its the best guitar I've ever played! Right out of the box this guitar was ready to go, all it needed was a little tune up. The locking tuners are confusing at first but you'll get the hang of it with practice. The guitar stays in tune pretty well. There are only a few times that I have to re-tune it. The pickups have lots of personality, but are also good for "chugs". If you're into metal this is a must for you.

Comments about Ibanez RG4EXQM1 Quilted Maple Top Electric Guitar:

This guitar sounds great and also looks fantastic! The pickups are great, the tremolo system could be a little better, but I think its human error not the guitar. The neck is so thin, it's so quick and easy to play on! Overall great guitar.
Built hard and sturdy. Looks great too.
For the money you spend, you get what you pay for and so much more!

AMAZING GUITAR!

Comments about Ibanez RG4EXQM1 Quilted Maple Top Electric Guitar:

I had a minimum amount to spend on a guitar when I went to look for a new one. For the sake of variety at first I looked at Jacksons and Schecters. However, for some reason none of them felt quite right. I spent 3 hours in the store until a manager brought this thing out for me from a box. After plugging it in, I was immediately sure that this was the guitar I would buy. So far it has not disappointed me. The finish is beautiful (I have the Transparent Gray Burst), the tone is amazingly clear on all pickups, the neck is fast, and the locking tuners will keep the guitar in tune perfectly no matter how hard you abuse the whammy bar. The only thing that is slightly difficult about this guitar is changing strings and changing tunings. The Edge Pro 3 Tremolo can be a little difficult to adjust and makes tuning a bit difficult. However, when in tune and perfectly adjusted it is well worth it because it will stay that way no matter what you do to it. I wouldn't recommend this guitar for beginners only because of the complexity of the tremolo. For intermediate and advanced guitarists...this thing is absolutely the best guitar for the money and even beats other guitars that are worth way more. If you can afford it and you are looking for a fast guitar with beautiful tone and that looks amazing, do not hesitate, this is the guitar you want.

Great Guitar at a Great Price!

Comments about Ibanez RG4EXQM1 Quilted Maple Top Electric Guitar:

Overall, this guitar is amazing. The humbuckers make sure that there is no hum when you go crazy with the distortion, and the single coil and tone knob allows you to get crisp clean tones out of it as well. It is versatile, though from the addition of the tremolo bar as well as its design, it is built more for hard rock and metal. Even if hard rock and metal aren't your styles, give it a go anyway, you'll be surprised at how good it sounds on the clean channel of any amp! I would definitely recommend this guitar to any player of any level, and I would not hesitate to buy another one if mine were to be stolen.
The features on this guitar are what compelled me to buy it. The humbuckers make it great for the most extreme forms of rock while stile allowing you to play clean with great tone! It has a 5 way pickup selector to allow you to get many different tones from it in combination with the tone knob. It's 24 frets give you two octaves on each string for extended tonal range (one of the main reasons I bought this guitar). Also, the tremolo bar is simply amazing! I can do divebombs all I want and stay in tune thanks to the floyd rose licensed double locking tremolo! The quilted maple top and beautiful finish options allow you to get a truly eye opening guitar with great features!
This guitar is really a step up in quality from my first guitar, a Squier Bullet Strat. The tone I get from my RG4EXQM1 is simply a lot more pleasing to the ear thanks to better tone woods and really just better quality in general. This guitar even plays better than some Gibsons I've played, and for half the price!
This guitar plays like one worth 3 times more! Ibanez deserves a lot more recognition than they get, as they produce great guitars able to hold their own against Gibsons and Fenders but for better prices! This guitar is a steal!

By Lexicon

Comments about Ibanez RG4EXQM1 Quilted Maple Top Electric Guitar:

Picked this baby up the other day, after seeing the quilt maple top which just blew me away. So lets get down and talk about it:Features: The maple top gives it a ton of treble, which was what I was looking for. The Edge tremolo works great, and is very smooth. The pickups give you a huge range of sound, and I play everything from classic rock to the nastiest of death metal on this thing with ease.Quality: Everything was set up correctly, it sounds great, and looks great.Value: With all these features, a similar product could cost several hundred more. This thing is a steal.Bottom line: Great guitar at a great price. The number of sounds that you can get out of this guitar is incredible. It will not let you down.

Affordable, and plays like a 2000 dollar guitar!

By Mittens

Comments about Ibanez RG4EXQM1 Quilted Maple Top Electric Guitar:

This guitar is really something, I play metal and classic rock and it is the perfect thing. Not only the looks are appealing but the sound as well. It also plays really fast because of the super thin wizzard neck. I play alot of Children of Bodom and the neck is perfect for this. If you dont know how to yourself, get it adjusted so it fits your style. I just made the strings a little closer to the fretboard and I still get little to no buzzing from strings hitting the fret bars. If you are really picky about your sound it wouldnt be a bad idea to get a new bridge pickup, like the Dimarzio D-Activator. I would highly recommend this guitar to anybody from a beginner to a professional. Dont look any further, this is the one.

Awesome with one exception

By guy with an ibanez

from Vanderbilt, TX

Comments about Ibanez RG4EXQM1 Quilted Maple Top Electric Guitar:

I've owned this guitar for about one year now and i am very pleased with it. It plays great and looks great. The pickups are pretty good as far as stock pickups go. And for those of you wondering, the pickups can handle some really good pinch harmoincs and harmonic squeals. If you've ever heard the songs 'cemetery gates' or 'floods' by pantera, these pickups can hit all of the pinch harmonics in either of those songs.(its pretty hard but it can be done.) The only bad thing is that the neck is a bolt-on, so it cant hold the squeals as long as i'd like, but oh well it was only $450.The neck is really thin so its SUPER FAST, i have big hands though( I like thick necks like on the Dimebag(RIP) guitars.) But if you have small/medium sized hands this neck is perfect. My only problem with thise guitar is the bar on the floyd rose... It just slides in instead of screwing in... Seems like an O.K. idea right? Well after owning it for about 5 months the whammy bar started to just fall out of the guitar when I was standing up. Its not fun to have the whammy bar fall out on stage when you need it for a solo. I had to wrap scotch tape around it so it would stay in better. The Floyd Rose is a pain to put in other tunings( ex. Drop C, Drop D Standard) but once you get it in tune it never goes out, and I am extremely rough with my whammy bar, so it can handle whatever abuse you can dish out.You cant beat this guitar for the price, the only other guitar for the same price and features is the Schecter damien fr. it is about the same as this guitar in terms of playability. THIS GUITAR IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS! If you buy it, be sure to go to the floyd rose website and find out how the floyd rose works, or you could end up screwing up the guitar. I've found my way around this guitar through trial and error. It takes about 15 mins. to restring the guitar if you know what your doing...not 1-2 hrs like some people have said.Overalll if you can understand the floyd rose, BUY THIS GUITAR! You will not be dissapointed!

Comments about Ibanez RG4EXQM1 Quilted Maple Top Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for a few weeks now and was tired of having guitars that buzzed relentlessly. The sound quality that these pickups provide is amazing and crystal clear. It takes a little bit to get used to the edge three trem but once you figure it out it's great and the guitar stays in tune even when you do crazy low dive bombs. Not only does the guitar sound amazing for every style of music that I play (metal, rock, blues, reggae, etc.), but it looks amazing! I got the blackberry sunburst and was a little worried at first that it would not look as cool as the picture but it was even more beautiful of a finish in person. If you are progressing in your guitar playing abilities and would like a better guitar for a decent price, this one is definitely for you. I recommend this model one hundred percent.

F*cking great instrument.

By Salman

Comments about Ibanez RG4EXQM1 Quilted Maple Top Electric Guitar:

This guitar is absolutely amazing. I bought this recently. I have had several guitars before this. I have had a few Jacksons (JS20, DXMG and DKMG),a couple BC Rich (Ironbird and Warlock) and a couple other Ibanez RG series guitars. This guitar handsdown beats all of the other guitars I have ever had. My biggest issue with Jacksons was their inability to stay tuned. This guitar is amazing when it comes to being tuned. I screw around with FR and it will not go out of tune. Not only this, the look of it is beautiful. I have the grey maple top. It looks sophisticated with a badass attitude. The neck is extremely comfortable and fast to play on. I bought mine with the stock INF pickups but I will soon switch these to either SD's or EMG 81/85's. However, the stock pickups that it comes with sound very clean. No rubbish sound on this. All in all this guitar has a lot of personality and attitude. I am not a big fan of this type of bridge but it goes great with this guitar. I play varied stuff from death metal to down tuned doom metal to fast paced black metal. This guitar does it all. Without any doubt one of the best guitars I have ever owned.

I went and looked around at the hundreds (exaggerating a bit) they had. I started to sit down with a Les Paul in my hand and played it for about two minutes when this axe caught my eye. I took it down and checked it out. Plugged it into a Line 6 Spider III amp and it sounded amazing. This guitar is the best deal you can get for the price. Good for all styles of music. It can do everything. Clean, metal, blues, etc...This is a guitar everyone should get!

Comments about Ibanez RG4EXQM1 Quilted Maple Top Electric Guitar:

I wanted to see this guitar, because i've read about it , this guitar plays great, and I played it over all the gibsons, the only other guitar that was close that I liked was the LP ultra, It played well w/o distortion and expecially with it, perfect for led zeppelin, and the 24 frets are handy, the 5 tone swich, awesome, only bad thing is there is barely any room under the strings, but its not too bad, the quilted top looks great, and the floyd rose is awesome, I like you have to put a little more pressure on it, this is a good guitar, and its well worth the money

Great for the money

By M-PkCyH

Comments about Ibanez RG4EXQM1 Quilted Maple Top Electric Guitar:

This Guitar was given to me as a gift, to be used as a travel guitar. I have a pretty decent collection that includes two high end (at least what I consider high end)Ibanez guitars (1989 RG550 & UV777). In my opinion, this guitar is pure fun. If you want a great mid range guitar, that you do not have to worry about...this is the axe for you. Although I find no fault in the INF pick-ups...with a swap out for some Evos and a professional set up, this could look and play as well as a guitar twice its price. The quilted top eases out of the black finish to reveal a greyish almost silver burst, which is accented beautifully by the white binding. The finish ultimately spells out professional player. Straight off the shelf, no PU change and no set up work....pure fun.

I tested this against a jackson $700 guitar with emgs and there was no contest. The ibanez blew it away. built very good and one of the most gorgous guitars i've seen. My neck was set a little crooked though causing the trem to be higher on one side making the action l little higher than I like but over all a pretty good buy. I'd buy another one.

Ibanez RG4 QMT

By jimmymook6

Comments about Ibanez RG4EXQM1 Quilted Maple Top Electric Guitar:

I mostly play Fenders, but I've been looking lately for a fast, biting guitar. I never thought I'd ever buy a "pointy" guitar, but the Ibanez RG4 is too fast, smooth, cutting, and precise to pass up. It's also very handsome with a translucent finish on the body and matching headstock, cream binding, and sharktooth inlay (who can beat that, honestly?) The main reason for this review though, was that I noticed an error (or so I think) in the guitar's description; there are 2 EMG humbuckers AND a middle single, giving the guitar a 5-WAY selector (a bit more versatile)Thanks, bye!
