The sleek Ibanez S was a revolt against the traditional mahogany guitars of its time that were usually heavy, bulky and uncomfortable. Obviously it was a successful revolt, as the S Prestige is celebrating its 20th Anniversary with a wider selection of models than ever. Originally the S guitar was designed as an all-around guitar. Now, however, it finds its largest number of adherents among the practitioners of the more extreme forms of metal who appreciate it for its unique combination of fat mahogany tone and sustain with light weight and comfort.
Heavy mahogany tone without the heavy mahogany weight. Thin around the edges for comfort. Fat around the pickups and bridge for tone. The S2170FB S Prestige model features U.S.A.-made pickups: The DiMarzio IBZ neck humbucker is powerful sounding with a quick respnse. The DiMarzio IBZ bridge humbucker provides enhanced harmonics and overtone. The DiMarzio IBZ single-coil with alnico magnets has a well-balanced sound with a clear tone. , 5-piece neck with Prestige finishing for increased playing comfort, Gotoh precision tuning machines and deluxe Prestige case.

- Amazing Trem, always in tune
- Lightweight, but heavy enough
- Two words - Bu, Binga.
I ordered this guitar after all the reviews I've seen. I was absolutely amazed how well this thing plays, it really does "play itself" as someone else stated. The bridge pickup was weak for my tastes, so I dropped in a Bareknuckle BlackHawk and now this things screams. I also have a ESP MH 1001 with the EMG 81's, amazing guitar as well but this Ibanez you can tell is just top quality. Already looking to buy another Prestige. Thanks Ibanez!

This guitar has all you need regardless of you style. I am old school so I switched out the pickups very quickly but the stock ones sounded nice. Very nice guitar for the money.
I really really don't like Ibanez but this one is simply amazing! Anything from jazz to heavy metal, clear, cutting tone, great sustain,- amazing! Just saw this one and couldn't resist. I won't use it on the stage (not my style) but as a warm-up or when I'm in that heavy metal mood- this is simply fabulous. If top end Gibson is Rolex, I could compare this to a really good high-end Seiko watch, so good it is. If you have the money and are thinking whether to buy this or not- buy it! It's definitely one the best tools for showing off your skills.
I have been playing the 2170 for about 6 months now. It is truly a great guitar. The zr stays in tune no matter what you do to it, the neck is really thin, really easy to move around on, 22 frets with a rosewood fretboard, the pickups are pretty good although I did order some real dimarzio's, Its just all around a great guitar. It is not a japanese made ibanez, but it is pretty amazing.
This guitar sounds fantastic with HUGE tone, shred to jazz to Stevie. Quality is absolutely top notch. Perfectly weighted, great PU, tremolo that is engineered to perfection. This will never leave my collection.Running it through SV212, Hot Plate, sonic stomp and GT-8 for chorus, verb and delay.
I love this guitar. I'm a true Ibanez believer. Proud owner of 6. I usually play RG's but this S is the exception. Herman Li from Dragonforce plays this guitar with a custom 24 fret fretboard. The sound is amazing, the pickups are alive and bright. full of sustain. Tremelo holds tune forever. Neck is smooth, thin, and fast. Perfectly balanced body. When you hold this guitar, you can't help but admire the craftmanship of this japanese prestige. Work of beauty. I own it. I love it. I play it every day. I only wish that there was a 24 fret version.
This guitar is amazing. For the price, there is nothing that even comes close to it. The ZR trem rocks; you can swing it around by the whammy bar Herman Li style and it'll still be in tune. It stayed in tune for a month of daily play for me. The pickups are pretty good too, though I'll probably get some evolutions. If you're looking for a high-end rock/metal guitar, you can't do much better than this.
I own one. It is the best electric guitar I have ever held or played. I bought it not knowing, but soon discovered it is most excellent. I have owned many guitars electric and accoustic. My friends all made the same comment after playing it, "this axe practically plays its self".
a really great guitar for the price..why pay for a les paul that limits your playing, and the necks super fat.....not with this guitar..cheaper, lighter, but above those is the quality and playability it has, the neck is super fast for scales and stuff, but normal chords arent compromised...just a great deal..you wont be dissapointed..i promise
This guitar plays better than anything I have ever used. It is thinner and lighter than my SG, and has the BEST trem system ever. My only complaint is the bridge pickup was very very weak, I would expect a DiMarzio to be hot, but the pickup was very dull, no treble, and overall a very weak pickup. I replaced it with a 500T, and this is now the best guitar I have ever played. Plays the best and sounds the best.
