OVERVIEW

The pinnacle of shred science.

The epitome of shred guitars. The Ibanez S5470 Prestige outshreds any other metal guitar on the market, with 24 frets on a lightning-fast Prestige-finished 5-piece neck, ZR2 bridge with ZPS3 spring system for in-tune dive-bombing pyrotechnics, and an incredible variety of finely-honed tonal options. For starters, you get massive mahogany tone without massive mahogany weight. Thinly carved around the edges for comfort, and fattened around the pickups and bridge for tone, the S Prestige model is loaded with an HGD1 Hot Grinder neck humbucker pickup, ST1 Short Tracer mid single-coil pickup, and HGD2 Hot Grinder bridge humbucker pickup. The Hot Grinder humbuckers are smokin™ hot, yet sharp enough to hear the pick strike the strings. The Short Tracer middle-position pickup features a stronger magnet for greater output in a low profile setting. The Gotoh precision tuning machines, locking nut and ZR2 (Zero Resistance) bridge with the ZPS3 spring system returns the tremolo bar to "zero," or center point, even when executing extreme whammys and divebombing - and even when you break a string! No more wondering if your last whammy attack left you severely out-of-tune! Comes with deluxe Prestige case. Made in Japan by Ibanez's finest craftsmen.Use the drop-down menu above to choose colors and other options.

I was in the market for a shred axe that had:1) 24 frets2) locking trem3) Great playability.I saw Doug Doppler personally endorse this guitar at a local clinic (he no long endorses 24 frets in general) but it was enough to sell me on the guitar.Once it arrived, I loved it - that was 2 years ago. The Pros:1) neck - hey, it's an Ibanez neck - it's thin and smooth2) light body (well, when you've played Les Pauls, a bag of bricks feels lighter...)3) Great trem - one thing I didn't realize I liked was the low profile of the ZR2 - another Ibanez I have has a licensed FR and the fine tuners hit the underside of my forearm - not this pup. And it stays in tune. I'm wary of FR's now..4) Love the bridge and neck pups5) Easy access to high range - this is a must. Again, my Les Paul has 22 frets but darn if I can reach them and make them sing. Not a problem on this fella.Cons:1) Not a big fan of the middle pickup. The guy at the local shop argued with me that it's single coil and not going to be as hot as the other two - ok, that's fine, but my strat is all single coil and not nearly as noisy as this one. Plus the volume change is undeniable - even when in 2nd and 4th position switches which can affect live performances. I was told one alternative would be to install a double single coil to get rid of the hum issue.2) Not real versatile but that's kinda like saying the Ferrari doesn't have room for the groceries. It is a hard rock axe - not really that good for lighter fair or jazz. So it's not perfect - what guitar is? - but I give it an A- and it is my main axe now.

I've owned this guitar for just under a year. This is only the 3rd time I've had to intonate it and when I did so, stipped two of the screw holes out on the A and D positions.I'm quite experiencedin this with over 30 years of playing and know not to "warf" on things during set up. of course, it's under warranty and hope it's just a matter of a "bad egg" and will come back like new and I'll never have another problem like this again because I do in fact love the guitar. (Thus the good review) With the exception of the pickups being a little on the weak side and this unfortunate incident....I can't wait to get it back and get back to work!!!!!

Comments about Ibanez S5470 Prestige Electric Guitar:

ONLY thing I would change would be the middle single PU, maybe a Blue Velvet Dimarzio.
Stock one doesn't have much punch/output
People are freaking out on internet because their headstock isn't stamped "Team J Craft" no worries, I spoke with manager at Pennsylvania Ibanez plant and wrote to the Japan HQ . Both were more than happy to speak and one email response..
As long as it stamped with "Made in Japan" and has a serial # (that you can look up online @ Ibanez it is the real deal. The Team J Craft logo was partially phased out in 2010, instead using the that space for the KTS Titanium/CE logo .
I ordered mine driectly from the Pennsylvania plant and it doesn't have logo , just a heads up to the authenticity. Don't freak
Bang for the buck, I aret a 9 on a 10 scale

Best guitar!!!

By Luis Torres

Comments about Ibanez S5470 Prestige Electric Guitar:

Pretty close to perfect. Too pretty to handle the same way I handle my other guitars.
Tuning stability of the ZR2 trem is great even after heavy use. Too early to comment on the ZPS. The pickups have very little or no noise and sound great in all combinations. It is extremely confortable and playable. The case is very sturdy and nice. It is molded specifically for this guitar so that it fits snugly in it without floating around. Nice tool kit included. The saddle screws are offset so that they can be accessed without loosening the strings during intonation. Intonation tool is screwd to the bridge for quick access.
The finish was flawless. Knob adjustment feel is great. Dispite the thin body the guitar feels very solid and well built. The pickup selection switch is slightly noisy thru the amp while moving. Factory set action is just right for my taste but there is slight lower string buzzing at the upper frets which could require neck adjustment. Intonation was perfectly set at the factory.
Great value.

Comments about Ibanez S5470 Prestige Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar about a week ago from my local music store and as soon as I plugged it in and began to play, I realized it was the sound I had been dreaming of. I love it so much that when I accidentally made a small dent in the headstock I almost cried. This guitar can do anything you want it to d from clean blues to distorted grunge this guitar is absolutely perfect.

Comments about Ibanez S5470 Prestige Electric Guitar:

I upgraded to this from an S570. I am very pleased. There is a very noticeable difference in the playability and sound. Don't get me wrong, I was nearly as impressed with the s570 when I first got it, and consider it to be an excellent guitar. The neck on this guitar is even thinner, yet very firm and sturdy - not at all flimsy feeling. The knobs, trem, and electronics are all noticeably upgraded. The sound is incredible. The sustain is great, tones are great. The finish is gorgeous. It feels incredible to play and its light. I guess I'm kind of in love. Nothing disappointing, this thing has it all.

    Amazing S Series Guitar!

Comments about Ibanez S5470 Prestige Electric Guitar:

I was really excited to see a 24 fret S guitar come out. I finally bought one about a month ago with Dimarzio evoloutions installed (so I can't say anything about the stock pickups). Man, this guitar screams! The neck on this thing is amazing. The body is super light but still gives fat tones. The finish on everything looks prestigious;) Also, to set up this guitar is a piece o'cake. It came set up with .09 gauge strings, and I use .10s. I have never owned an Ibanez with a ZR bridge (or any Ibanez, actually) or the thumb wheel in the back for adjusting spring tension. I can easily say it is the easiest floating tremolo system to set up, and it stays in tune marvelously! The ease of intonation is also worth mentioning. Obviously this guitar was built for shred, but it can handle anything. Nice job Ibanez! Very fun to play! I'd been playing my Les Paul custom mainly before this so having easy access to the higher frets is like an amazing discovery to me right now!

One of the best guitars i've ever played

Comments about Ibanez S5470 Prestige Electric Guitar:

First of all, this is not just a shredders guitar. I am starting to get into shred, but am a blues guy at heart. This guitar is very versatile as you can see with the pickup configuration. It is a beautiful guitar as well in the transparent black sunburst. This is now my favorite guitar, and I have 2 Gibson Les Pauls (Custom and a Standard) and an American Strat. This guitar is worth thousands!

Comments about Ibanez S5470 Prestige Electric Guitar:

I bought the Red Viking version of this guitar in early 2011 and had Dimarzio EVOs installed. When it arrived and I opened the case it was like Christmas morning. It looks so awesome in person, just a beautiful instrument. The finish is perfect, the neck looks impeccable, just looking at it is satisfying. I'd never owned an S guitar before but I had played on the mid range models at guitar shops. If you're unfamiliar with them you should know they are SUPER light and really thin. I had been playing my old Les Paul Custom primarily before I got this guitar - when I strapped on the S5470 I could barely even feel it. The sustain and tone is no where near as good as my Les Paul, but I was expecting that based on how small the actual guitar is - not bad, just no great. The ZR2 bridge is pretty nice. It sets up super easy with the thumb wheel in the back and the intonation tool is pretty clever. The Zero Point System was kind of a gimmick. I removed it as it made the trem too stiff - didn't matter though the thing still wouldn't go out of tune. Can't comment on stock pickups but with the EVOs it really screamed - probably more than I wanted! The neck is awesome if you like thin, flat, and wide necks. I ended up selling mine because I realized I prefer fatter, more narrow necks. Personal preference. If they made this guitar with a more Strat like neck and 22 frets I'd buy it in a hearbeat. Definitely recommend.

    the perfect guitar?

    By Rockstar Chef

    from Albuquerque, NM

Comments about Ibanez S5470 Prestige Electric Guitar:

After playing with the old S series in music stores, my thoughts were "if only Ibanez made these with 24 frets". Lo and behold, the men from the far east must have hired some mind readers for 2008. To me, this is the guitar i would have built if i could build guitars. Its the perfect blend of Gibson style chunk with Fender dexterity. Throw in an absolutely bulletproof trem system and you have a fine instrument. The first thing i did was tune to dropped d and whammy the crap out of it. IT DOES NOT GO OUT OF TUNE. Period! Ibz could have done a bit better with some D-Marz p/u like they did with the 22 fret s prestige, but these definitely do the trick. Versatility, speed, comfort, and quality. Who could ask for more?
