Overall i give this a solid 10. Amazing tone even if you keep the stock pickups. I replaced my bridge pickup with an evo-2 just for preference and i liked the look of it better but you definitely do not need it. I originally wanted white but didn't want to wait 2 months on backorder. This guitar has become my go-to for recording leads and it will probably remain that way unless i purchase a JEM or high-end PRS guitar. Either way this is a keeper for life and i feel bad for anyone who missed out on it.
Features.. probably the only thing its lacking compared to a few other high end Ibanez models like the jem. It only has a 3 way toggle switch and 2 humbuckers. But even the stock pickups are awesome. It would have been even better if they build it was a middle-single coil pickup but i knew what i was getting and still love it.
Amazing build. Solid body that is heavy and has a tone thats heavy to match it. I have unfortunately dropped it a couple times and banged it on corners because its so big and can sometimes be a little weird to sit and play with but its so tough it barely even takes a dent.
The value for the price was unbeatable. Sure you could get the same thing for 2-300 with an RG model, but the fact that this was a V and a solid body/neck thru guitar was a no brainer not to buy. Not only that but it was a limited time model and they are hard to find anywhere these days. I know because i bought the black model and wanted a 2nd one in white but they are rare.

What I have to say is that, if you get a good piece, rather good for it's price. I went through about 3 at the shop before I got mine, Indonesian QC. But once I got my hands on a good piece, the one I own now, I was blown away by the design of this guitar, other than killer looks, the Wizard neck is perfect for shredding, some will not take well to the finished neck though. However, I do have some issues with the neck joint, it is an embarrassment for neck through guitars, the transition is not as smooth as other neck through guitars I have played. Other than that, on bad pieces, you have guitars with dry spots on the rosewood fretboard, frets that are not level, and all kinds of stupid problems that I don't expect from Ibanez. Other than that, it sounds rather decent, plenty of output with alot of headroom, as per advertised by dimarzio. Before buying this guitar, go through a few pieces and inspect everything, I saw one piece with a chip at the end of one fin that was FINISHED OVER. Talk about indonesian quality checks.

Excellent guitar, don't pass it up!!

By Marcus Aurelius

from Tulsa, OK

This is an awesome guitar! It has to be the finest ibanez I've ever owned, way better than the rg or the xiphos that I had and the reason is the bridge. If you play heavy metal and especially if your a rhythm guitarist then this is the guitar for you. It has the fastest, smoothest playability I have ever seen. The action may be a little low for some but that can be easily fixed with a small allen key. The pickups are excellent as well, you can't go wrong with dimarzio. So pick up this bad boy soon before it's gone forever cause ibanez isn't making anymore in the foreseeable future!

Discontinued Masterpiece

By Eden Vader

from Houston, Tx

To whom ever reads this review. All I can say is that you missed out on a phenomenal guitar built by Ibanez. I have the privilege of owning both the black and white VBT700 Ibanez guitar. I love the sustain thanks to the through neck design. I have since modified both guitars outfiting them with EMG 81 and 85 pickups. The DiMarzio pickups the VBT700 come with are great. They are very crunchy and clear but I am an EMG man. I changed out the tone and valume knobs for Fender P-bass chrome knobs. I also replaced the machine heads with Grover in line machine heads. It is a shame that this guitar was discontinued. If you find one, BUY IT!!!!!

Mediocre

By COBHC fan

from Minnesota

I don't see what the hype is about. I played it, I can't believe they say Totmaff, but this guitar has Used this. I know they edit like all of thier stuff, but still, it has no whammy. The frets and pickups were extremely below average, not coming remotely close to DragonForce style tome. This guitar is a sham.

I've played it a couple times and it really shreds. The DiMarzio's put out all kinds of crunch and sweet, crisp clean sounds. But I never had fret buzz on them. The only thing was a strap button was missing on every one I've seen. I love V's and this one fits me near perfect. It's very comfortable, really light and well balanced. Plus it looks really cool. I would most def recommend this axe. It's amazing and I hope to own one soon. Good show ibanez, keep it up.

Beautiful Beast

I've been playing on Ibanez guitars since I first started. I bought this guitar last year in white. I walked in to the guitar store, looked up, and fell in love. Once I actually picked it up and played it, it was even harder for me to walk away from it. I got out to my car, and decided I wanted it so I walked right back in and paid for it in full so I could take her home that day. I love it and play it all the time. I realize not many have been made so I plan on keeping it for a very long time. The sound is crunchy when ya need it to be, and clean when ya need it to be. The neck is perfect and I can make some mean string bends flawlessly on the smooth wood. If you like painted necks that is, which I am QUITE the fan. Out of four Ibanez guitars, this is the one I kept. Since there aren't that many made, if you can find it, BUY IT! Don't pass up this deal.

Good but there's better

I was at a music store and I went in the used section and found this guitar. At first glance if is a beautiful guitar. So I picked it up and it was set neck and in great condition. But it had a painted neck and my hands stick to painted necks so i prefer to stay away. But I went over and played it through a Line 6 spider 3. When I went to plug it in I noticed that the input jack was on the face and not the side. I stay away from these because I accidently destroyed one of my guitars that had this because I left the cord in and then I stepped on it which broke through the wood. But it sounded good, i didn't play it long enough to put it on clean. It's a v style so of course it's a little uncomfortable after a while to sit with it. But it didn't compete very well against even the cheapest randy rhoads with stock pick-ups for me. It's a good guitar for you if you don't mind painted necks and want a sound that's not extremely heavy. Overall good but not amazing.

Killer tone, great looks, and awesome feel

By SaintHazard

from Louisville, KY

I bought this guitar three weeks ago as a gift for myself for graduating from high school, and the second I picked it up I could tell that it was weighted and balanced flawlessly. While some V-shaped axes feel too bottom-heavy or just don't sit right, this guitar feels as if it were an extension of my body. Then I plugged it in, and my jaw hit the floor. The DiMarzio Activator pickups have the kind of raw, defined tone that I would expect from active EMGs, and the dense body and neck-thru construction give this guitar a tone that constitutes a nice, happy medium between a Les Paul and a Razorback. On top of it all, it looks amazing. This is the perfect guitar for any metal guitarist, hands down. Hats off to Ibanez once again.

Love it

By Kareja

Just bought it about a week ago and I love it. Great tone and sustain, the only thing I didn't like about it its the painted neck. The dimarzio pickups sound really great and made me forget the emgs that I was so in love with.

Wow!

OK, first off, i want to say that i am extremely prejudiced against Ibanez guitars, so i was skeptical when i walked into my local music store to try this thing. But, as soon as i plugged it in and got it tuned up, i was hooked. this thing blows alot of more expensive guitars out of the water. the combo mahogany body/ thru maple neck is great. it's durable, and definatley made for the long run. the pickups scream, i mean SCREAM! they're some of the most harmonically sensitive passive pickups i've ever played. this thing has made a lasting impression on me, the only downsides are that there's no whammy bar (haha) and the tuning machines are a little sloppy, if you're serious about your guitars though, pick this one, but get some Sperzel locking tuners for it, as well!

Ibanez VBT700 V-Blade

By slagathor

from Raleigh, NC

This guitar is awesome. The neck plays great, and the pickups are amazing. When I bought it I was going to put in a set of EMG's, but with good distortion, the DiMarzio's put out that high gain crunch that makes metal what it is. Also, Ibanez did something almost unheard of with extreme-shaped guitars and positioned the strap buttons correctly so that it's balanced. And they made the input jack so that it doesn't dig into your leg when you play it sitting down. Overall, great guitar.

Killer Guitar!

By Hector-soQxq

See all my reviews

When I first plugged the VBT700 into my Randall half-stack, I was not impressed at all with its sound. After messing with the amp settings a bit, the awesome tone and sweet harmonics of the D-Activator pickups were just oozing out! This guitar is definitely designed to get great power-chord metal tones ala Voivod, Metallica, and Slayer, but you can also get some great hardcore punk rock tones. My only complaint is that it's just a bit top heavy for my personal taste. Flawless finish, fast neck, good tuning keys, and it was setup from the factory better than any other guitar I've ever owned. Definitly a killer axe!

Amazing, just amazing.

By Metallijosh

When I decided to buy this guitar, I had planned to put EMGz in it. I took it home and plugged in and totally changed my mind. The Dimarzio's in this guitar are simply amazing. Moving on to the rest of the guitar, the tone was beautiful. One of the best metal tones I've heard(well for the price).I would def. recommend picking this one up soon as they are now discontinued, and will all be gone soon. That is until I become famous and make it my signature guitar.

My First Time

By vr0DYEuPf

from In a house

This is the first ibanez I have ever bought. Not bad considering the lack of a tremolo system, locking tuners or interesting knobs and do-hickies. When I first got it, there was a MAJOR problem with fret buzz. The guitar was not setup at all and it turns out the cause of it was the truss rod. The fret edges were a little bit rough. The pickups are grade A. I dont care what anyone says about EMG's, Dimarzios are da BOMB. The high notes are very articulate and I can totally WAIL on this guitar. For my first ibanez, its not half bad...

Excellent tone, fast neck, smooth style and ,YES, more tone! This well balanced all mahogany axe will split you from others with every note played. Pounding DiMarzio's pickups complemented by jumbo frets on a 5-piece set neck set at a great price. Excellent sustain! 100% purebreed full-blooded guitar.
