Comments about Luna Guitars Muse Safari Series Spruce 3/4 Dreadnought Travel Acoustic Guitar:

Luna is mostly known for their appealing (and in many cases rather fancy) designs. But the Safari "Muse" shows that they know basics too. This guitar, a three quarters sized "Dreadnaught" - yes, that is a contradiction in terms! - has a layed back style but plenty of substance. I'll share some the finer points:

The guitar is SMALL. Even for three-quarter. But by using the Dreadnaught shape (yes, the name is more than a contradiction) Luna makes a small bodied guitar with a good-sized soundboard. That means it plays plenty loud and sound less thin than many small-bodied guitars.

The smallness makes it a good travel companion. Maybe for a safari, definitely for a picnik, a lawn party or a day at the beach.

The later is possible because of the instrument's construction. Its "select" woods are merely a surface treatment. The soundboard, back and sides are all plies. Bad? No. That makes it far less likely to crack and split if the instrument faces rather more extreme temperature changes than you'd dare expose a solid spruce or mahogany guitar too.

Yet there is nothing "cheap" appearing in the construction. The Spruce top, ply or no, is "select" in its appearance; the straigness and evenness of the grain.

All the fittings and construction is first rate. And I say this as a guy who is used to playing Martins, Yairys and Gibsons. Looks and feel-wise this guitar holds its own in pretty elevated company.

Another key point that shows that Luna had much more than good looks in mind is the neck. Yes, it is short scale (which makes for easy playing), but the neck, having a normal sized nut doesn't feel "small." It feels right.

Action is slightly high if judged by appearance. But the short scale makes for very low tension so that does not make the instrument hard to finger. And it means you can strum vigorously with getting buzzes. If you play finger style I suppose you might choose to lower the action. For all but the most gentle strumming you are better off IMO leaving it as is. Well, at least that was so on my instrument.

How does it sound? Pretty good. No thumping bass like a Martin D-28 or MMV (Hey, did you expect it would?), but a clear well balanced tone all the way up the neck. More than "OK." Pleasant.

The guitar came with a zipper travel bag. Nice looking. Well made. But with absolutley no padding. Still, it'll protect the guitar from the elements some and will serve the purpose for hand's on travel.

Bottom line: This is one fine travel guitar and a true bargain. For me that means being able to play my guitar here, there and everywhere. Watch out world, here we come!

great little guitar, bought it for my 6 year old daughter, she is of small stature but fits her good.
it's well made and a really nice smooth finish The only thing I had to do was set it up and put new strings on. Had to take the bridge down quite a bit and adjust the neck. They had it pretty tight.
I have never seen a guitar of this quality for this price anywhrere.

        Excellent guitar for smaller players!

        By Heather Stearns

        from Washington

Comments about Luna Guitars Muse Safari Series Spruce 3/4 Dreadnought Travel Acoustic Guitar:

First off: The reason I gave it a 9 is because there are some intonation issues on the low E and A strings (goes terribly, TERRIBLY sharp as you fret -- though all the others are bang on the money). I have perfect pitch, and this was rather annoying to me, HOWEVER, I went to a lighter gauge string (.11s that run a .50 on the low E) and it helped significantly (though it's still a bit sharp as you go... my next set of strings are going to be a GHS silk & bronze with the E string at .49, so maybe that will help a bit more). My instrument was also pretty particular that you tune it to itself for "in tune" chords.

That said, I LOVE this little guitar. I'm a smaller stature player, and 90% of the guitars I look at are simply too big for me to be comfortable playing. This guitar is wonderful! It sounds like a jumbo dreadnought with a nice, full tone, and doesn't cause me the discomfort of playing one. I literally pulled it out of the box and went "WOW" when I strummed my first chord! I am very pleased with the craftsmanship -- this instrument is very well put together, and there's not a sharp edge to be found on it. Everyone asks me if it's a solid top because it sounds and looks like a much more expensive instrument. It sounds great live (with a Duncan Maverick Performer soundhole pickup), it sounds great unplugged.

I would feel confident recommending this instrument to anyone looking for a better guitar with an extremely reasonable price tag.
Has some intonation issues on lower strings

This thing is really cool......I own a Big Baby Taylor guitar and this thing is just as good. I am surprised how nice this guitar is for the price. It stays in tune well and sounds really good too. I also like the neck on it as well. I'll bet you will buy one if you try one.

        Very Nice

Comments about Luna Guitars Muse Safari Series Spruce 3/4 Dreadnought Travel Acoustic Guitar:

This little guitar is on the small end of 3/4 sized guitars, but just right for a child. My 6 year old likes to play with this. It holds tune well, sounds nice, and is very well made for the price.

Travel size guitar - impressed with sound!

Comments about Luna Guitars Muse Safari Series Spruce 3/4 Dreadnought Travel Acoustic Guitar:

I tried several Travel size guitars - guitars with a shorter neck length (scale) and smaller body. The Baby Taylor and Martin where both nice, but cost considerably more. When I got my hands on the Luna steel string Travel, and for the price, I was super impressed! First, the guitar looks beautiful with its celtic design around the hold, it holds its tune remarkably - much to my surprise as I have experienced many smaller guitars that will not hold their tune. It is easy to play, action was just right. It came with a truss rod adjuster too. The sound from this guitar is appealing too for being so small. The Luna Travel body is much smaller than a Baby Taylor body - so don't expect a big size - but in my opinion, for the price - you are getting a high quality Travel guitar to enjoy.Mine came also with a little Luna cloth case.

Comments about Luna Guitars Muse Safari Series Spruce 3/4 Dreadnought Travel Acoustic Guitar:

A great 3/4 size travel companion! As soon as I changed the strings, this guitar held it's tune great for days and delivered a very full tone. For the price I couldn't be happier. This is a good guitar to handle travel or outdoor playing without worry.
