OVERVIEW

A fine example Martin's commitment to preserving the earth's dwindling resources.

The sleek Martin 000CXE black acoustic-electric guitar is among Martin's most affordable acoustic-electrics. To keep the guitar accessible to guitarists with meager budgets, Martin uses high-pressure laminate (HPL) in concert with traditional tonewoods in crafting the 000CXE. The compact triple-ought body size is a comfortably sized instrument for smaller guitarists and can also serve nicely as a travel guitar. The Fishman Presys Plus preamp system has feedback controls to keep squeals at bay. These include a brilliance control, notch filter, and phase switch. The preamp chassis resides in an easily accessible flip-top compartment.

What more can I say. It's a Martin! It sounds, plays and looks great! Buy it!
This is my second Martin Acoustic Electric Cutaway in the HPL (high pressure laminate series) I always dremed of one day owning a Martin and now I have two! Thanks to Martin for making these awesome guitars affordable. I was magnetized by a friends HPL Martin and this cutaway stood out in the herd. I followed the "Les Paul" method of picking a guitar. I paid no attention to the name brand, the price or the aesthetics and really just played and listened. I bought this guitar because it rang out and felt great over and above some guitars price three times more. The "Stratabond" neck is solid and comfortable and the flat black finish is very attractive. It doesn't project as much as a deeper box design but it is plenty loud. The built in Fischer tuner and EQ really captures the personality of this guitar when it is plugged in. Some people mistakingly think of this as a cheap Martin but it held it's own against some higher priced Martins, Taylors, Breedloves and Guilds. Toy! I think not! More like the Tools of the Trade for the serious player. Pick it up and you won't put it down.
Compared to some guitars at over three times the price I would still buy this one even if money were no object. Smooth playing Satin finish neck, great electronics and an awesome black body finish make this a serious players guitar. It's smaller shallower box lends itself to a more comfortable feel. I use this to play open mics and at church and always get compliments from the sound man and the audience.
This guitar is a great value! You can't beat Martin's reputation for quality guitar-making and Musician's friend is a reliable and safe way to purchase your guitar or other accessories. Musician's friend will save you from tax and shipping charges also combined with their reputation for service and satisfaction guarantees and discounts you need to order right now!

I had two of these guitars sent to and they were both junk. The frets were rounded off below the high E string, so you couldn't play a basic D chord. The action was nice and low; every string buzzed. Truss rod adjustments did not help. If you want a nice Martin, you will have to spend more than this.

A Seasoned Pro

By Robbie Z

Comments about Martin 000CXE Black Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The reason Martin specs the phosphor bronze is because they are the top-shelf acoustic string in their line up. Plus, they have a more mellow (like you said correctly) tone, so when plugged in, they are warmer. I personally, after 27 years playing live, don't buy any other string for any application, and I use the 13's for the most bass and mellow power available.I've owned 8 Ovation guitars in my life (including one Adamas) and have never had the bridge "pop off". They're great guitars, but Martins are better. It was when I went to dream about a few months from now when I'll be able to afford the DC16GTE that I want that I saw this 000-CXE. I picked it up, and asked the price, then had to check to see where it was made. I now figure all Martins are made here in the USA, and you can tell. Absolute terrific professional performance for very little cash.Would reccommend it to anyone, especially smaller-framed individuals, but I'm 6'3"/255lbs and it's already become my favorite stage guitar.Six stars out of five.

Comments about Martin 000CXE Black Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Could be better with some attention to detail!
I am just now at 51 learning to play guitar and this is my first acoustic. I have a fender Tele that i learned to set up perfectly according to fender specs. I decided to buy a big ol fender drednaught and I bearly could get my arm around the thing and it sounded tinny and hollow. I guess thats what you get buying a guitar sight unseen over the internet. So I returned it, and got this Martin. A person at the shop gave me a good demo, because I am just starting to learn some chords. It sounded very mellow and warm, so I bought it from Musicians Friend. When I recieved the guitar it sounded very nice, but the tuner is a bit dodgy. I t does not 100% agree with the tuner in my line six pod hd pro .Also very oddly the next day the stock strings sounded completely dead.So I put some Martin SP .012-.054's on it and is sounded nice again, These guitars are now made in Mexico, and that does not make me happy when you are buying a Martin. I found the guitar very hard to fret and realized there was 0 tension on the truss rod, and had way to much relief on the neck. After getting the neck where it should be, the action is still very high, and is hard on the fingers. I have learned every thing about setting up an electric, and have got my Telle and my deceased fathers 1959 fender p base perfect. I am scarred to file the saddle. because I don't want to mess it up. I am a bit annoyed that this guitar came so poorly set up, and now I will have to spend more money to get someone to set a less painfull action. The people at Martin assured me they are keeping a close watch on the Mexican guitars, but that does not seem to be the case. I am sure that this guitar when propperly set up will be a little gem, but some better qc on Martins part would be nice. Also it is near impossible to get a guitar strap around the combo end pin jack. Again I had to spend more money to get a specialized device to fix this.

wow factor!

Comments about Martin 000CXE Black Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

i was checking out the merchandise of my local guitar shop when i just happened to come across this martin guitar. just seeing the gold coloured c.f.martin logo on the headstock brought about a bit of apprehension. however i was drawn to this guitar. it was quite unique looking. the simplicity of it's flat black color and the gold rosette that surrounds the soundhole are just classic. no flash! the sounds that are emitted are equally impressive. size wise the sounds don't carry as a larger guitar. yet this is what sold me. i'm not a tall person, hence the ooo body size suits me fine. it is what it is. also the fishman electrical components are quite impressive if ultilized. this guitar is a pleasure to play. it has given me a continuous amount of joy since i purchased it!

Mexican Martin still a martin.

Comments about Martin 000CXE Black Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this martin as my first ever Martin. It plays wounderfully, with a decent low end, stable middle, and perfect pitched highs. I have a special woods D10 birch Washburn, which I love, this blows it away. It isn't some massive dreadnaught so don't expect huge projection, but for studio, or basic strumming it can't be beat. It is lightweight, and travels well. Neck is laminate, as is the body.

Awesome addition to my collection!!!

Comments about Martin 000CXE Black Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar is an awesome addition to my collection. I've been playing for close to thiry years and have owned many guitars. I currently have Gibsons, Ibanez, Fenders, but this Martin quickly became my "Toy" of choice. I find myself reaching for this one before any of the others. When it was delivered it was in tune, and I barely need to mess with it at all to keep it there. It has that sweet Martin sound that makes me not want to even consider changing the stock Martin strings when the time comes. It doesn't project like a dreadnaught does, and it can be drowned out a bit when multiple acoustics are going at it at once, but I bought it knowing I would be amplifying it anyway. Bottom line is that I love this guitar!

Great guitar for the money!

By Lesley Alexander

Comments about Martin 000CXE Black Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar about five years ago and it quickly became my favorite guitar (I own three). I'm a small framed woman and the size of this guitar is perfect for my body. My other guitars now feel way too big! I also love the sound of this guitar; it has a beautiful warm tone. Plus, it's got great action, so it's easy to play even way up on the twelfth fret! I perform professionally and I also teach guitar so a lot of my life is spent around guitars and this is one great guitar. For the money, you can't beat it!
acoustic-electric guitar, small, thin, body, great action
Typical Martin- excellent quality!
Best value in a guitar. Many guitars in this price range sound...cheap!

A truly nasty acoustic.

By JD-2-U9v

Comments about Martin 000CXE Black Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Okay, so this guitar is my favorite acoustic guitar (I like it over my brother's much more expensive Gibson acoustic). The action is nice and low (your hands will flow from chord to chord or note to note) and the neck isn't obese and bulky like a good deal of other acoustics. Also, the tone and sound is bright, warm, and beautiful like you would expect from a Martin. Surprising, the pickup in this guitar is good too; the first time I plugged it into an amp, I was shocked; it sounds awesome. This guitar is definitely worth the money.

WOW

By MartinMusic

from Iowa-Florida

Comments about Martin 000CXE Black Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

As an owner of a Martin DC-Aura, Gibson Les Paul, Ibinanez Jazz box, and am ESP LTD, I have never been so astonished by the sound of an instrument. I wanted a reasonabily priced acoustic guitar for street performing, and this thing rivals my Aura. Tuning holds steady in and out of the car, during performances from late morning to late evening, and even from day to day. I use it through a crate taxi, and when I have electical available, a Marshal acoustic. Sounds great with both, with just minor adjustments with the on board EQ. But it NOW.
