    Martin

The DX1E has the "famous" Martin sound and playability found in their more expensive guitars.

The DX1E Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar is a fine example of Martin's commitment to preserving the earth's dwindling resources and designing guitars that are within reach of every aspiring guitarist. The DX1E is constructed with a combination of highly compressed wood fibers (high-pressure laminate, HPL) and traditional tonewoods,

A built-in Classic 4 Sonicore Preamp System gives you control over the sound and some impressive features, The DX1E is equipped with Sonicore pickup and Switchjack, volume control slider, active bass, midrange, treble and brilliance slider controls, low battery LED, easy access "pull-out" housing.

    Great Guitar for price

    By WillPayne

    from Lafayette, LA

    Pros

    • Easy to play
    • Good price
    • Great feel

    Cons

    • Can Be A Bit Muddy
    • Needs Better Electronics

    Best Uses

    • Gigging
    • Home use

Comments about Martin DX1E Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I use this in my band and gig with it quite often. Right out of the box, it is a great sounding guitar for the price. It can get a little muddy/bassy. The electronic pickups aren't flawless by any means. I pair it with an LR Baggs para EQ and it works wonders, though. I've had this guitar for about a year now and it has never failed me. It feels great and is very easy to play. I wouldn't say it's the best studio quality guitar, but for live situations it gets the job done.

Great guitar! Smaller neck makes it easier for people with smaller hands. Sound is really different. Love the built-in tuner.

    Amazing guitar

    By steve weiss

Comments about Martin DX1E Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was sitting in the acoustic room of the local music store, just killing time, not at all thinking of buying anything, when I picked up the DX1E and began playing it. Well, an hour later the wife was on her way over with the money to buy it. ( I'm a lucky guy...she totally gets it when it comes to guitars ). The first chord I played on the DX1E was one of those moments when the sun comes out and the birds begin to sing. The acoustic tone that came out of that guitar was miles above anything else at it's price point, and it played beautifully. Now, a year later, I love it just as much as I did then. I really bought for its acoustic tone, but have come to appreciate the pickup system also. It has a very natural sound. The only thing that took a little getting used to on my part was the idea of so much man made material being used in the construction. The back and sides are some sort of wood grain looking counter top type material, the neck is a multi-ply wood laminate, and the fingerboard is also a synthetic material. None of these materials, though, seem to hurt the tone a bit. The top, the most important part soundwise, is a very nice solid spruce. Playing this wonderful guitar is a little like eating hot dogs...enjoy, but don't think too much about what went into making it.

    Terrific Choice

    By Steven Deutsch

    from New York

Comments about Martin DX1E Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar was purchased as a gift for my teenage daughter. She started playing my 1975 Guild and is now taking a guitar class as an elective in High School. So I decided it was time for her to have her own acoustic and with the electronics built-in for tuning and amplification. Sounded like a great idea. It does look different than traditional acoustics out of the box. No banding and a flat finish. But as soon as she strummed, the natural voice of this guitar just lit up the room. No electronics plugged in. The action is fine, great strings, clean, comfortable shape. This is a win win. An upper affordable guitar that she will take with her throughout her life along with its memories. And now she comes home from school and heads straight for the guitar instead of Facebook. THAT is even better!
Love the Fishman electronics! It is a great feature to have electronic tuning built in for people learning to play. Even me - I get a little lazy as I get a little older.
This is not an inexpensive guitar. So, for the money, considering there is a great deal of man made material in lieu of solid precious woods I figured there has to be a way to engineer a great sound. CFMartin did just that. I just hope the materials are as durable as the real woods over a long period of time. It is a very impressive piece of craftsmanship.
Certainly more expensive than alternatives like the DX1AE, Fender T-Bucket, Yamaha, Applause and so on. For the money we could have purchased a Dean but frankly the CFMartin name means a lot. Wish it was made in USA instead of Mexico. The commute from the Rio Grand to Pennsylvania has to be a killer! lol

    AMAZING!

    By Siili

from San Francisco Bay Area, California

Comments about Martin DX1E Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I listened to every acoustic guitar they had in the store (BTW, this happens to be one of the finest guitar retailers around) and kept returning to the Martin. The sound is incredibly crisp, rich, full, and smooth and the guitar feels like a custom made instrument designed to fit right into my arms. Go give this guitar a try and I promise you that you will not be sorry for the effort. I have several very good guitars, but this Martin is by far the best sounding of them all. Despite the fact that I did not have to pay nearly as much for this Martin as I did for some of the other more costly guitars, they do not even begin to compare to the sound that comes out of this gem. Congrats to everyone who reads this and goes out to get one for themselves. Smart guitarists & smart consumers you are indeed!

dont read the specs, its all about the tone

Comments about Martin DX1E Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

if you looked at the dx1 on paper hpl, man made bride and fingerboard you may not give a second look, but some how martin makes it work, the tone on this is the real deal, deep, warm, complex and great sustain, i have tred just about every guitar in the 400$-700$ range and nothing with solid wood and fancy inlays can even come close, this 500$ martin has the acoustic tone of the big boys 2k and up,i have a few and i dont even play them anymore, this guitar is all you need, martin knows whats really important in a acoustic guitar they put all the work on this into the sound not the "look" and they know true acoustic lovers will reconize it when they play this.

    Amazing

Comments about Martin DX1E Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I absolutely love this baby. She is solidly built and sounds amazing. The laminate sides on this guitar sound better than some of the solid woods on others! Sounds amazing on it's own or plugged into my Fender Acoustisonic amp. Finish just tops it all! You even get a Fishman in it. Played it, love it. Amazing guitar overall at a steal of a price. Great Martin sound at a fraction of the price!

    Excellent guitar

    By Luke

    from Upper Michigan

Comments about Martin DX1E Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have owned this guitar for about 8 years or so. The sound is a very deep sound. The tone is really all that should matter and this one has it. The back and sides are not solid wood but are made of a laminate. Even without solid wood sides the sound from this guitar is awesome and well worth the money. Plugged in and unplugged its a great guitar. It is my primary guitar and will be for a very long time. The only thing I wish it had is fret dots on the front of it - but there are little dots on the side for reference though. I do wish the top was glossed over because the matte finish of the wood has collected dirt from my arm over the years and I cant use guitar polish to clean the surface.

    Martin DX1E is awesome

    By bluesymcblue

Comments about Martin DX1E Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I just got this over the weekend and I have to tell you I can't put it down! It sounds increcible, the neck is a dream to play and the workmanship is awesome! I have been playing for a couple years and this is my first good acoustic and what a difference in quality and playability from my lower end beginner guitars. If I had to do it all over I would not waste my money on a cheap guitar to start but go right to this one. The fit and finish plus it even has that wood smell that just screams quality. If you want a great guitar for beginners to a pro then this is the guitar for you.
