OVERVIEW

One of Martin's most affordable Performing Artist models, the GPCPA5 is available in a Grand Performance body size with a solid Sitka spruce top, koa-patterned high pressure laminate back and sides, High Performance Neck and Fishman's F1 Analog electronics. Using advanced construction techniques, Martin is able to produce this fine guitar with a sound that rivals models costing much more.

Fishman's F1 Analog preamp system
The F1 Analog has 2 control knobs and one display. By pressing the volume button down for 2 seconds the tuner is activated. The innovative one-knob tone control lets you choose between a natural, undersaddle sound with no EQ (fully counter-clockwise) on up to a "mid- scooped" tone with emphasized treble & bass and reduced midrange. Pressing the tone knob repearedly cycles through various phase settings that improve bass response while aiming to suppress unwanted feedback.

Case sold separately.

An exceptional value with a Grand Performance size, solid Sitka spruce top and convenient Fishman F1 Analog electronics.

I was not expecting this martin to sound so good for being an [$] guitar, but I was pleasantly surprised. Up next to a taylor at the same price, this one blew the taylor out of the water. No regrets buying this guitar. Would definetly suggest it to anyone looking to buy an acoustic electric guitar.

As an owner of two Taylor acoustic guitars (414 CE & 615 CE Jumbo), I thought I'd try out this Martin from Musicians Friend. . . . The initial delivery arrived and I opened the box only to find the headstock completely broken off the neck. Customer service was easy enough to work with and after returning the guitar they sent another. Upon receipt of the second guitar I noticed the action was too high and wasn't comfortable to play as I worked my way down towards the 12th fret. Took the Martin to my guitar guy to have the action lowered only to learn that at the 15th fret where the neck meets the body of the guitar there was a high spot, resulting in all the strings rattling terribly in that position. The neck had to be reworked in order to create an even playing surface. Not a terribly expensive model, but nonetheless, at this price I expected better quality. I'll probably keep the Martin for a while then sell it or gift it to a family member. Taylor makes a far superior product.

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Series 2015 GPCPA5K Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The plugged-in sound is great. This guitar does not feedback very easily, which is really nice. Acoustically it is a little brighter than I expected for a Martin, but I have no trouble getting rich mellow tones when plugged-in.

The setup was perfect right out of the box, and it has not changed in the extremely dry and cold Alaskan climate where I live.

The Corian nut is a nice touch for a economical guitar, but I will try to smooth the edges where my hand occasionally makes contact when playing open chords.

I could go on and on about how much I like this guitar, but suffice it to say: I have a small budget, so I have a small margin of error when making a guitar purchase, and I have found this guitar to be money well-spent.

The guitar looks beautiful, and sounds beautiful!

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Series 2015 GPCPA5K Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar mainly for practicing, I've been playing for 7 years and I have played quite a few guitars, but none of them were as special as this guitar. This guitar is literally magical. I am now able to control squirrels!! I can control them to congregate in my front yard and attack random passersby s. Do not buy this guitar unless you feel like you are comfortable controlling squirrels. My biggest fear with this guitar is that the squirrels are eventually going to control me.

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Series 2015 GPCPA5K Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have been playing for 3 years and becoming a musician. I trying to go to school for it. my actual first purchase for an higher quality flattop. I was happy when I bought this and still am. My only complaint(s)are only the nut and bridge work. each groove is farily wide apart and when I capo, 1 E string comes off the fretboard and rest to the side. That can be done by making your own nut and bridge or buy one that the grooves are closer. The other are the D and G string. When you amplifiy the guiar, you cannot have the beautiful balanca sound. The 6E, 5A, 2B and 1E are too over powering. However, hover the XML 990 or 910, you'll have that sweet, beautiful sound from the martin. overall, I am happy with this art. Recommneded for those who love folk music. Good start out

Big fan of Musicians Friend. Always buy from them. Except this once. Big mistake.
Bought a performing artist Martin for over (edited) and it arrived almost unplayable. Tried to deal with it, but after a short time, just gave up and sent it back to Martin. It's now 5 months and it's still not fixed. The guitar is of no value as a musical instrument. Martin takes months just to give you an estimate, but doesn't mind charging your credit card months before returning the guitar. Recommend looking at Breedlove. Far better guitar for a fraction of the price.

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Series 2015 GPCPA5K Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar looks and sounds incredible! The fretboard is wide and easy to play. The richlite fingerboard isn't quite as lovely looking as real wood, but has a nice smooth feel to it.

My only issue was some pretty severe fret buzz when I first received the guitar. Out of the box it was so extreme it was virtually unplayable, and I questioned all the positive reviews out there. The action was so low the strings were practically touching the frets. It lasted for appx 2 weeks before the wood and neck settled in to its new environment (it shipped in January).

There was one day when I spent an hour or two playing outside on a 70 degree day, went inside and the first two strings were completely dead. However, after another week or so this problem disappeared without having to go for a setup. Now that the guitar has acclimated it sounds perfect, especially when fingerpicking. It doesn't have the same big booming voice of my D35, but of course that's a totally different animal. This one is much easier to play than the D35, and I have noticed an increase in my playing skill (I'm an intermediate-ish player).

It is comfortable to hold and play, and sounds great through an amp. I'm 5'3" and the body of this guitar fits me much better than a dreadnaught.

Be aware that this model has the Fishman ANALOG preamp, and the LED only lights up for the tuner. The Fishman instruction booklet isn't very informative, and after viewing videos on youtube of how to use the electronics I thought I had a defective guitar. I realized later that what I was actually seeing on youtube was the Fishman AURA system (available on higher priced models), which does light up to display different settings for tone and volume. This one has the same knobs, but they are just knobs-- the LED will not light up to show you volume level or tone settings. Musician's Friend has excellent customer service, and they helped me with all my questions and concerns. *Martin girl for life!*

This is a very nice guitar for the money. I would love to have a D28 but can't justify the cost. This guitar allowed me to get the great Martin quality and sound at an affordable price. Was not sure I would like the natural finish but it looks great. Got a good deal from MF.

After 9 months the top started coming loose from the sides. I've never had a guitar do this and I've been playing for 30 yrs. this guitar was taken care of well and the environments it encountered have not been harsh at all.
