OVERVIEW

Superior Martin craftsmanship, and Fishman technology, all at a steal of a price.

Martin guitars from the X Series feature patented high pressure laminate (HPL) back and sides with a solid Sitka spruce top, patented mortise and tenon neck construction, and professionally installed Fishman electronics. The result: great-sounding, great-playing guitars, that are environmentally friendly, and priced to fly out the door. This is one of Martin's best values ever. The 000X1AE guitar affirms Martin's commitment to providing an affordable and competitive option to players dedicated to live performance.

The 6-string X Series 000X1AE acoustic-electric guitar features the 000 platform, a smaller body design than the traditional dreadnought, producing full, robust sound. Pairing the Sitka spruce top with the HPL back and sides, the 000X1AE belts out rich clarity and plenty of projection. The Mortise& Tennon neck joint ensures optimal tone resonating from the instrument, while eliminating drop-off in the finer dynamics.

The Martin guitar's stratabond neck is a multilayered wood creation, bonding layers of wood under extremely high pressure. The material is then carved and finished in a conventional manner. The end result is a very strong neck that provides definition and articulate sustain from note to note.

The modified low oval neck shape, 25.4" scale, 1-11/16" nut width, and 16" radius provide comfort and dexterity when performing intricate movements and progressions along the black Richlite fretboard.

The Martin 000X1AE guitar features proven Sonicore pick-up technology with the Fishman Sonitone system featuring "easy access" volume and tone controls conveniently and strategically located just inside the sound hole.

Dressed in a satin finish and featuring chrome tuners, chrome hardware, this guitar has the look and sound of a highly collectible Martin, but goes for a price that anyone can afford. Embrace the dream of owning your very own Martin guitar, at a price that is too good to pass up.

All X series guitars arrive stage ready-just plug them in and play. Martin X Series guitars also include a Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Martin has always made prudent use of natural resources, especially rare or endangered tonewoods in making their guitars. At the same time, Martin is committed to building guitars of superior tone and playability that are affordable to every guitarist. This 000X1AE acoustic-electric guitar from the X Series more than meets both of these criteria.

I think it is pretty cool what Martin did here. They took kitchen counter tops material for the back and sides, skateboard park material for the fretboard, and a microlam neck which is what you use to span large open areas when building houses. Yet, it is a sweet guitar with a warm tone, the intonation and playability are prefect.

I wanted a travel guitar that I could leave in a hotel and not worry about. I have a hd-28 and an 000-15m which are just to expensive to leave unattened or bring anywhere near a campfire. I almost got a taylor gs-mini but I wanted the bass that you get from this guitar. I got a professiona set up and it helped a lot. I also had to sand the side of the fretboard, because it was almost sharp and botherd my hand. I play about an hour every day, so my hands were not the issue. I have played it for about 2 months and it is already breaking in and sounds much better.

Compared to my hd-28 or 000-15m, I do not think it is in the same class. However, the prices are not even close for the HD and the 15 is about double the price. If you can swing it, I would hold out for the 000-15m it is a much better guitar. That said, compared the the guitars in its price range, this thing rocks. After the minor sanding and the set up, this guitar plays as good as either of my other accoustics.

I wish I would have had this back in the day instead of my washburn or my seagull s6. The seagull was a pretty good guitar, but the Martin playability blows that guitar away.

So all in all, a great guitar with sustainable materials. Its perfect for what I wanted and its a keeper.

Not your fathers 000...There are a lot of things that make a guitars tone. The soundboard or top made of tried and true spruce on this guitar, where some of the tone comes from, but not all! The problem/conundrum with this guitar is the rest of the guitar is made from HPL and stratabond. High pressure laminate made from a glued together waste product sawdust and painted to look like wood, the blow up love doll of guitar manufacturing. If you close your eyes and rub your hand over it kind of feels real!? Stratabond another repurposed waste product glued together. "It's alive!" well kind of as long as you know that HPL and stratabond will never "Open up" and are in fact tone killers, period. I still think that this is a neat durable guitar, and there's nothing wrong with recycling materials from real guitars. Considering that this Made in Mexico guitar rolls of an assembly line, like a Model A, and the materials aren't exactly exotic the price point should be lower. This guitar will open up a bit but will never open up like a real solid wood guitar. A guitar is a living breathing organic dynamic thing constantly changing...An all solid wood martin can really change into something quite magical over time. This Frankenmartin will never become a prince charming.

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 000X1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I had a Mexican plus top Strat that I had purchased that I was just not satisfied with the sound so I took it back and traded it for this Martin 000X1AE. I was totally blown away by the Martin. I had a Martin D-16GT a couple of years ago and got rid of it and always regretted doing so. Well, not now. In my opinion this baby blows the D-16GT out of the water. This has a solid Sitka top and HPL laminate back and sides. Do not be concerned about HPL. The construction on this is great and high quality. The neck is stratobond and is rock solid. I cannot tell the difference between the Richlite fretboard and the rosewood and ebony fretboards of my other guitars. The guitar comes with Martin SP MSP7100 light strings on it. I was not getting the bass response I liked so I put a set of D'Addario EJ-19 bluegrass strings on it and this baby now rocks. Normally I use a .73 medium pick. It sounds great on this Martin but a .88 sounds even better. The Fishman Sonitone pickup is not the most fantastic pickup in the world but through my little Ibanez Troubadour acoustic amp it does the job nicely. I keep the tone turned down low simply because I do not like a lot of the brightness when the tone is up high. I prefer a more mellow sound through the amp. The 000 body style is very comfortable to play and the guitar is very light. Makes extended playing a joy. I am 60 years old and have some issues with my back and some arthritis in my hands. So weight of the guitar is sometimes an issue for me after a couple of hours of playing. I could play this guitar all day. After I wear these strings out I will try either some John Pearse bronze or Martin bronze strings on it. If you want a Martin but cannot afford the higher priced ones, this is the guitar to get. There are no fancy appointments on it. The top is a matte finish but the guitar is just nice to look at. The neck is really comfortable to play. I am not a fan of gloss necks anyway. The setup was just fine out of the box. Just out of personal preference I did sand down the bridge just a hair when I changed the strings. I promise you will not be disappointed if you get this. I could not find one flaw in the workmanship of this guitar.

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 000X1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I own 6 guitars, 3 of those are Martins. This is my cheapest guitar, and also my favorite. (I have the straight 000X1, no electronics) I bought it as an "expendable" camping/travel guitar, but it is the one I play the most. It just feels sooooo good, plays so smooth. And it's sound will match or surpass guitars that cost 10x as much. I bought it because I sat down to play one in a store, and the tone punched me right in the ... um .... lap. It has great tone. And fresh out of the box, the scent of this guitar is pure heaven. That alone is worth the price.

You'll see some reviews that say this and the cutaway 000XCAE are sensitive to temperature and humidity. That might be somewhat true. The :Stratabond" neck is more sensitive than pure mahogany. I live in the desert southwest, so maybe the problem is less for me. I tweak the truss rod twice a year, and that keeps this thing at a purrrrfect playing action. I've paid people lots of money to try to get my D-28 action to feel as good as this Made-In-Mexico knockoff. They can't.

I own a Martin D-28, plus I'm one of the 4 people who bought the Alternative II Resonator (also a great Martin). I have a Guild 12-string, a Cordoba classical, and the sweetest American-made standard Telecaster. But the 000X1 is the one I grab when I want to sit down and feel everything click into place, when I want sweet tones, bendable notes, and an intimate guitar. Get this guitar.

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 000X1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I feel blessed to be in a time period where Martin guitars have become affordable and special. Martin & Co. has successfully cut corners on minimal areas and moved production of the X series to Mexico to provide affordable guitars to consumers.

There are plenty of affordable guitars in this price range that offer both quality and tone - however, not many offer quite the bang in the tone department that these Martins do. There are always corners cut in this price range. Most manufacturers will choose to cut corners on their bracing or their materials, sacrificing the tone and saving it for their higher end models - thus keeping the attractive finishes and preamp systems. This is fine and dandy, as I have a Yamaha FGX720SCA and I love it to pieces. However - when compared tonally to the Martin, it lacks the depth, bass response, and character the Martin has.

Martin has sacrificed the luster gloss finish for a satin natural finish, which in its own right is very beautiful. The X-series like many guitars in its price range offers a solid sitka spruce top and laminated back and sides. The difference is, the laminate is a wood-patterned fake wood, rather than laminated pieces of real wood. Each back and side looks the same, as if stamped. However - the tone that spills out of the guitar is beyond amazing, and I can only say that it's because Martin braces their guitars a certain way. So I guess you could say that it's more amazing that they could make a guitar from this material sound so great.

The preamp is very basic, although does not cut into the side of the guitar. The preamp is located underneath the soundhole, with two cog-wheel style knobs that control the brightness and the volume. I find this is more than enough to achieve a great sound through a decent PA system. The preamp itself is not as versatile as my Yamaha's 55T preamp, but then again, the preamp isn't the guitar's strongest selling point, either.

The guitar is tonally rich, deep, and bright. My friend who owns several guitars (many vintage Gibsons) came over to try my new guitar. He couldn't believe what I paid for it and thought some dummy sold it to me way cheaper than it was worth. I told him I got it brand new and he said it was pure Martin all the way. So there you go.

If you have any doubts, go play one - you will fall in love!

Quality Instrument

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 000X1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

For what you are paying for this instrument you are not going to find a better buy. Solid Spruce top with Spruce bracing. Classic Martin design fit and finish. The low oval neck is fast and extremely playable for people with smaller to normal size hands and fingers. The Stratabond neck makes this almost impervious to warp and bow which is a real problem for all instruments not just the cheapies. The HPL back and sides mimic the associated woods and allow the Spruce tops to perform as advertised so no issues there either. Also on the plus side the HPL will take a bit more abuse than some of the 'solid wood' instruments.
The smaller ooo body of the guitar is extremely comfortable to play without fatigue associated with some standard Dreadnaught instruments. Properly humidified and cared for with good strings (I prefer Martin SP's or a set of Elixers) this guitar is a dream instrument that the average guy or gal can afford to own and play. I highly recomend it.
The features are very good on this axe. Out of sight, out of the way, good Fishman electronics are cleverly placed under the soundboard. Easy to use and simple. No extra bells and whistles but they aren't really needed either. I rated an 8 because of the battery placement. I'd prefer to see Martin move it to the bottom of the instrument and combine it with the end-pin much like one of the competitors. Tuners are great, excellent nut and saddle. The fret board is very fast and comfortable just like ebony (although I'd love ebony). I recomend on this or ANY new guitar to clean the frets and neck after purchase when you put on new strings and condition the neck with with good fret cleaner and conditioner just for proper and regular preventive maintenance. Plain Jane classic looks otherwise which I think make the instrument work as the craftsmanship went into the guitar sound and playability not the cosmetics. Wish it came either with a plain Jane standard hardshell case or a Hard Soft shell bag. That would put it over the top.
Quality is top notch on the entire instrument. I didn't give the instrument a top rating because even though I've been sold on and am a convert to HPL as a solid wood alternative, I still have a soft spot for the all solid wood instruments. That said this beast is a player that was built with the working muscian and regular folks playing on the couch, studio or stage in mind. Martin scored big time. The sound is massive and sweet. Finger picked or attacked with a vigerous bluegrass rapid fire strumming with a guitar pick the instrument responds without hesitation and will talk to you. This is a sweet guitar that you'll keep.
Want a Martin you can afford that is worth every penny you poured into it. This is it then. I've played my ooo up against other 'high end' Martins as well as other brand name instruments. All I can say is this IS a Martin so if you're looking for that unique Martin sound and playability you get it with this guitar. Well worth the money which is much less than most other name brand instruments of the same quality, body shape and features as this one. These are not cheap knock off guitars. The price is also kept down by not offering a case. After market cases are inexpensive and plenty.

      Comments about Martin X Series 2015 000X1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Best guitar on the planet. Martin scored, and I scored. Love it! Get it! Do it! Want more of it!
I absolutely love it. This guitar... is just grand! It's light, small (you have to get a custom case for it), sounds great, & actually plugs in and has a little fishman.. preamp thing inside the guitar. It's pretty rad. I love mine to death! Don't have a name for her yet, so she's miss martin right now. but martin seriously did get this guitar right on. It sounds great, gets loud (and louder when you plug it in), has amazing action, and is pretty easy to glide over the fret board.
it's built tough. I carry it around in a soft case, & i throw it around, and it holds up quite well. The wood feels fake, but sounds great. Definitely worth it. I wish the preamp was on the outside though, but it gives the guitar a more generic acoustic look without the preamp on the outside. pretty rad. definitely a quality guitar.
This thing should be worth more, this is a steal. Do it.

      Comments about Martin X Series 2015 000X1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

In my quest to find the perfect acoustic guitar, I went to every music store on Long Island and played every acoustic brand, then played the Martin 000X1AE. Let me tell you fellow musicians this is the acoustic you want to buy. Why? the neck is fast, comfortable, and right for small and large fingers. The body sits right in your lap perfectly balanced not too big or too thin. The sound is Martin although not the same as the really expensive models but with the Fishman Sonitone plugged in its hard to hear the difference. It has a pure solid Sitka spruce top the sides, back, and neck are HPL. This is a very affordable Martin which you can gig with or play anywhere. I consider it an excellent investment which will easily keep its value and is a great starter for the Martin line. Buy this guitar!

      Incredible Value for the Price

      By Jason Humphrey

      from Knoxville, TN

      Comments about Martin X Series 2015 000X1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Overall, definitely a 10! I cannot honestly find one thing bad/negative to say about this guitar. It looks great, it feel great to play and the Fishman pickup in it works fantastically. I had read other reviews telling you that you wouldn't be disappointed if you bought this and trust me, you won't!
As far as the features go, it's not very fancy but I will say that the pickup in this seems to be a solid one. The only reason I didn't give this a 9 was because it did not come with any protective bag of any kind and it seems like most other guitars do. Rating just the guitar itself would be a definite 10.
The quality of this instrument is exceptional considering how much was paid for it. It's a very solid guitar and definitely holds up well under all playing conditions I have put it through.
This is where I would rate higher than 10 if possible. The price of this guitar + the quality of materials that went into producing it seems to equal an exceptional value for the price. I never thought that I would own a Martin at this price! It was even better than I expected. I was worried that since I was buying a "lower-end" Martin that there would be issues with it but I have been more than pleased with this guitar.

I have had this guitar for only 2 weeks and can honesty say I love it.The ooo size is perfict for the way I play, very comfortable.Quality of construction is excellent, fit and finish was great, action and intonation was real nice.the only negitive was the inner position of the battery compartment,a little difficult to get at.Like all guitars, you have to change the stock strings that come with it to fit your playing style.I put some Ernie Ball 20004 Earthwood strings on her and they play better than the stock strings but sound a bit tinny,Elixers may be a better choice to get a more mellow sound as this is a very bright sounding guitar. This is a guitar that you can play all day due to it's smaller size.True Martin sound, you won't be disappointed with this purchase. If you are looking to buy a Martin but thought you could on afford it,look no further this should be your choice!Buy it!!

I got this guitar last June and I believe this is the best acoustic- electric guitar for $500. I got it for $400 because of a $100 off coupon, but I love this thing anyways. It's built like a tank and the sound is easily comparable to a guitar like the Clapton model. I bought this guitar mostly for the pickup system which is incredible. I've played Taylors with an LR Baggs system and i think this one is better. The Fishman electronics are very articulate and clear. And there's no latency! That's a huge plus for me. I love this guitar even if its made in Mexico. BUY IT!!!

      Comments about Martin X Series 2015 000X1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Sounds very good, definitely a Martin, i compared it with gpcpa5k model and plugged with Laney LA65 acoustic amps, but finally decided for 000x1ae due to soft and crisp well defined sound compare to gpcpa5k with almost 25 percent higher price than 000x1ae and has a lack of clarity especially when it is unplugged. You have to to have this 000x1ae, good pluck guitar getters.

This guitar has the same great sound you would expect from any Martin. The neck is equally good for chording and lead play.

I love this guitar, I bought it used [$] with hard shell case, the 000 X1AE is superior in terms of tone and sound quality. Pick up is simple which I prefer, I use LR Baggs para acoustic DI and it sounds great.Try it and you'll be amazed of how this guitar sounds.I recommend this guitar to anyone who is looking to buy an affordable yet sounds great..

          Comments about Martin X Series 2015 000X1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

first of all the tone is amazing, the fact that it doesn't have a cut-away in the body means everything. Sure the cut-away makes some playing more easy in the high notes, but don't be lazy compromising sound when you can learn how to play up there anyway with a rich sound. The built is great, it's light for gigs and to carry around. It has the full box sound of martin without costing thousands of dollars. I had some trouble with the output jack, the screw fell loose but it was solved easily just had to screw it back in again.
