I bought this guitar in Perth, when both it and I were a long way from home. I've played it in Australia, Singapore, Ireland, England, Morocco, and France, as well as home here in the U.S., and passed around a good number of campfires along the way. Just about everyone who plays it loves it. It doesn't sound as good as my 000, and no one should expect it to, but I love to play it.

As for the negative reviews, it may be that they make some lemons, or that some instruments are damaged in shipping. It may also be that some people abuse their instruments. Protruding fret ends and failing glue joints happen when a guitar gets too hot, too cold, or too dry. Treat it like it's alive, and it won't die on you.
It's a travel guitar with the same features as many full-size instruments.

Some people are put off by the non-wood top, but I like it. It's a formica-like material, with spruce bracing. It's a great choice on this instrument. A body this small with a wood top would almost certainly have terrible bass response, unless a great deal of care was taken in carving and thinning the top. A piece of redwood could do the job, but it would be fragile and expensive by comparison. The formica top has a naturally bassy sound that would be too dark on a full size instrument, but which balances well on this little body.
I've been playing mine for six years, with no problems.
I can't think of a better guitar at this price.

This sounded like such a good idea, a small guitar that I could take anywhere, even on a plane. It sounded surprisingly good in the store but the true test is getting to know any guitar over a period of time. Then the weaknesses start to surface. First, the sound rapidly deteriorates as one plays further up the fretboard. Yes, I know it's just a small guitar but the buzzing is excessive. Next, it is not made clear that this guitar is not made from wood. Yes, the bracing is spruce but the back, sides and neck are some synthetic material. The sales guy honestly thought it was wood as I did only to find out later what it really was. Not a big deal because the sound is unusually full for a small guitar. I had someone look at the setup and he agreed, it was set to low and would require some warrenty work to get it right, not something you want to hear after purchasing a new guitar. I tried another model but found the same problem. I ended up returning the guitar, couldn't get used to the fret buzzing. So, I would give it below average ratings for overall quality but above average ratings on sound IF you play below the fifth fret. Above the fifth fret is a below average rating for sound.

Buyer Beware

By Bluefish

Comments about X Series 2015 LX Little Martin Acoustic Guitar:

Let's start with the good, oh there's none. We purchased this guitar in July 09, for our son who's was just learning to play. After that didn't take, our daughter instinctively took to it, like a duck to water. We chose it purely because of name (Martin) then because of the 3/4 size. Slowly the guitar started to fall apart. First it was unable to hold a tune and then the back panel of the guitat started to separate. We took the guitar to a repair shop to fix the back panel. We had a long conversation that started with "this guitar is not manufactured by Martin." Come to find out this was absolutely correct. The guitar was manufactured in Mexico (propbably under the NAFTA treaty). Second, it will not hold a tune because the neck is set at an incorrect angle causing it to constantly stray from tuned. Third, 80% the guitar is not even wood. It woodastic or some kind of foreign material, probably plastic. The repair cost to fix was way more than the guitar was worth. Just another company trying to scam a few dollars for itself by selling garbage and doing it through Mexico. I will never purchase another product from Martin, enjoy the profits. You sold your soul for a buck and should be ashamed!

Comments about X Series 2015 LX Little Martin Acoustic Guitar:

This is an amazing guitar for what it is intended for. I own d-28 and this is nothing like it, or like my Taylor 814, or my Epiphone Texan ?ext. This is the best sounding travel/couch guitar out their. The HLP is better than solid wood in extreme temp changes allowing me to keep the guitar just about anywhere. It is quit but somewhat full sounding. It sounds better than most of the full size guitars in its price range, but this is not a stage guitar. Use it for what it is designed for any you will love it, expect it to sound like a full size Martin and you will be upset with you buy.

Comments about X Series 2015 LX Little Martin Acoustic Guitar:

I read almost all the reviews and most were very positive. I am perplexed because the sound is nothing special, even factoring in the small size. It definately sounds it's size in volume and tone quality is akin to being under water or having your ears plugged. Sorry to bust on anyone, but maybe most of the people in the market for this type of guitar are more towards the novice end of the spectrum and have lower sound quality expectations. I think most full size acoustics half the price would sound better than this...so you could take a cheaper full size guitar to the beach and even replace it as needed and be ahead of the game compared to this one. Of course this has the advantage of being smaller and more transportable.
I guess I should I have payed better attention. I thought the HPL was at least a laminated wood, with a thin veneer of real and attractive wood on the outside. It is not. It is fully synthetic and looks like rather a joke for anyone who appreciates the beauty of real wood. Basically a counter top like material. I wish I would have ordered the version with a solid top but I am too lazy to send back. I bought this for my 8 year old's birthday. Hopefully, it will at least be durable and he won't care about the HPL.
Seems to be well built. No real complaints other than those mentioned above about the materials and below about sound quality. I played through some standards up and down and all around the neck and didn't have any noticable problems with intonation or buzzing. I like the look of the laminated neck and it should be stable. I like the synthetic material of the fretboard- very hard and basically looks like ebony if you don't look too close.
Not a good value in my opinion. I have a few small guitars such as an Epiphone nylon string that sound as good and I believe were only like $40. I expected this to be several notches better. If the top had a real wood veneer, the sound wa a little more lively, it proved to be durable, then it would be worth it.

Comments about X Series 2015 LX Little Martin Acoustic Guitar:

This guitar is great. It has the quality of other Martins. It is a little heavy for its size, though. I would suggest switching the strings to Lights. The High Pressure Laminate feels the same as my counter tops and seems very sturdy. The sound isn't too loud, but it still sounds great. If you want a Martin without spending a lot of money, this is the guitar for you.

The guitar is perfect. I have since bought a new saddle but have not installed it yet. The guitar is incredible.

5 stars isn't a high enough rating. If there was anything I could pick apart is the B and High E string do not sound as nice and full as they do on a full size guitar but that comes with the smaller size.

I have to write about the high pressure laminate body. I really like a natural finish. This guitar feels unnatural. It feels like plastic and I absolutely love it. My perfect guitar would be a full sized version of this guitar.

The overall feeling and size is perfect not to mention the gig bag being top notch.

The body it self feels like it could take a beating. I own guitars that I constantly see new marks and scrapes (I take care of my guitars but I play everyday so they take a beating being out of their cases).
This guitar is going to hold up for a long time.

Comments about X Series 2015 LX Little Martin Acoustic Guitar:

Mine is the Natural top Little Martin LXM I installed a soundboard piezo for fun. I absolutely love this Little Martin for a travel guitar. I have had several travel guitars over the years all really unsatisfactory from the small electric A tuning mini"s, to the ones that you can take apart and all were unsatisfactory. They never felt,or played or sounded like a real guitar. I need a guitar bad after a week without one or I go crazy and ruin my wife's vacation. The little Martin keeps my sanity when the wife takes me off to some exotic place for over a month. They are extremely sturdy constructed and light. They are not real finicky about humidity or climate change. They will even fit in the overhead of those small regional Canadian made Bombardier planes, that have overheads that will only fit a large sized wallet. The best part of the little Martins is they sound good enough to play, and you want to play it.

Went on a 2 week road trip and lugged around my daughters electric guitar and amp. Thankfully my mom purchased this sweet little peice and wow! It is so light and easy to carry around. My daughter just wears it like a backpack and uses it all the time. Couldn't be more happy. Especially for the look, sound, and feel.

Comments about X Series 2015 LX Little Martin Acoustic Guitar:

Highly recommened for students, also great travel guitar and fun tool for advanced guitarits.
We've had our little Martin for several years and love it. Both my daughter and I play it. We traded in a Baby Taylor for the LXM because it sounded and played sooo much better. We own other Martins, and this is certainly no match tone-wise, but the LXM has a wonderfully pleasing sound. It is super fun to play and is great to have around the house and on camping/vacations. Don't let the laminate material (vs wood) fool you...it sounds great, plus it's almost indestructable. The 3/4 size is perfect for kids and beginners, and also to curl up on the couch or take to the beach. It fits in the airline overhead compartment, and comes with a more than adequate padded gig bag. Serious guitarists will also find it handy. I've also recorded with it, since it has it's own sort of funky sound, and use it often for high-strung tuning.

I can't say enough good things about the LXM. And for the price, it's a great first Martin. I often recommend it to my students.

          Darn Good Little Guitar

Comments about X Series 2015 LX Little Martin Acoustic Guitar:

It has its faults. It is very poorly balanced. If you inadvertently just turn loose of it expecting it to rest on the strap, the headstock will dive like a submarine. Make sure there is nothing down there (like a mic boom) for it to hit. And, while the tone is rich and full on the lower frets, if you capo up very far you have a very good sounding uke not a guitar. Don't get me wrong, it's not an unpleasant sound up there at all, it's just not really guitar. It's more like a six string uke. But, I might add the intonation is spot on all the way up the neck.

This is a very good little guitar for either a beginner or an experienced player looking for something small and light. I am very happy with mine.
This is an acoustic guitar. What features would you expect? It is a very no nonsense little guitar. It has a body, neck, nut, bridge, saddle, etc. This guitar does not come with the fancy binding, trim, etc. that you are finding on even cheap guitars these days. But, it does come with good strap buttons installed and a good set of Martin strings. I'll take fabulous tone and projection and a very good quality gig bag over the fancy decorations anytime.
This is a very well put together little guitar. It is not fancy. Mine is black. It has kind of a stark, simple appeal. But, the neck and frets are great and the sound is hard to believe out of something so small. It is louder than my brand name, solid wood, mid size acoustic and the tone is much, much better. Mine had no visible faults. Stays in tune very well.
Can't imagine a better value unless it delaminates later as I have read that some do. It sounds like a much larger and more expensive guitar, plays very comfortably and is small enough to travel well. At less than three hundred bucks it is a very good value. I played at least thirty different guitars before I bought this one. I gave one pawnshop rescue away (a Dean Playmate) and sent one brand new offering (a Mitchell MDJ 10) back for lousy tone. The Martin was the best combination of price, playability, quality and sound I found. I am very happy with it.

Comments about X Series 2015 LX Little Martin Acoustic Guitar:

4.5... Its probably one of those products, you could get a lemon. Sounds good... bad build.
Good looks... nice tunning heads... its an acoustic.. ha
I have had my little martin for a few years, nots sure how long but after two or more years there is bowing at the bridge (like a brace on the inside came loose due to the amazing individuals in mexico doing their best putting them together or the design could not take the tension from strings/ I dont use heavy gages)... but this baby sounds amazing and is easy and fun to play. The soft case that comes with it is worthless... I hate gig bags. Also some of the frets I guess were not grinded down properly and depending on how/what you are playing may scrape/cut you (sharp metal edges).
Mine seems to be falling apart due to design or build quality...

After traveling with my Taylor, I decided that I cant check my guitar without having a heart attack when I let it go. Was looking for a travel guitar but wasn't happy with any of the backpacker style guitars. Had an oppty to play this and was really impressed. Now that O own it I can't put it down. It is very small but after 5 minutes I was pretty used to it. Doesn't go out of tune like other travel/backpacking style guitars. Sounds very full for such a small guitar. Looks sharp too. I def recommend.

I've owned many of the travel sized guitars. This one is the best. Looks the best, feels the best, plays the best, sounds the best. Durable, gorgeous, great sound. Had a Laguna-kids outgrew it so I sold it. Had a Baby Taylor-sounded tinny, felt cheap, and broke. Own an LXME Ed Sheeran-great guitar. Wanted a second 3/4 size so compared this to the Baby Taylor. Martin looks better, feels better built, has better strings and tuners. The Taylor ebony neck is "speced" better but the Martin neck plays just a well if not better. Big Baby and GS Mini are comparable in sound but compared to same sized guitars, the Martin quality and tone is simply far superior than the others. There's a reason this guitar has so many positive reviews: lots of people own it.

I decided to research a good starter guitar and found great reviews on the Little Martin. The reviews were spot on. This little guitar is wonderful. I have actually learned more in the first couple of weeks using this guitar than I had in an entire year with my other guitar. Very happy with this guitar and would absolutely recommend it to anyone.

Comments about X Series 2015 LX Little Martin Acoustic Guitar:

The Martin LX "Little Martin" is an exceptional value. It boasts great tone for its size; has a fast, smooth fingerboard; stays in tune well; and is impervious to quick, dramatic climate changes. I've played for over two decades, and this is the best travel/starter guitar I can think of.

I chose the Martin LX over its LX1 counterpart because the high-pressure laminate top is much, much more durable and consistent than Sitka spruce. I bought this to take with me on camping trips, vacations, and getaways; thus, I was concerned about leaving the LX1 and its spruce top in extreme environment such as hot trunks, cars, etc. No such worries with the HPL construction on the LX.

The tone on this is phenomenal. As expected, the Martin LX sounds like a Martin: bassy and warm; very well suited for strumming and picked leads. Likewise, its Baby Taylor competitor is better suited for exclusive fingerpicking and sounds fairly brittle by comparison, with some intonation and buzz issues. I've experienced no intontation, buzz, or bad fret issues on my LX. In fact, this is the second I've owned because I gave my last one to a good friend who was learning how to play.

Please, buy this instrument without reservation. It bears the hallmarks of the Martin & Co. name (hey, I own a D-35 and one of their ukes, I should know!) and it will satiate anybody's need to rock out on a small acoustic. Impeccable construction; attention to detail; incomparable sound: it is, indeed, a "Little Martin."
