I bought this guitar because I could not handle a full size guitar. It was hard to hold and hard to play and hard to do barre chords on. I wasted 6 months with the full size before I bought this LX1 from Musiciansfriend. This guitar is the reason why I learned to play. This guitar took a struggle and turned it into fun! I love this guitar. IF you have thick fingers this won't work for you. I have medium size fingers and it works well.Playing is a joy on this. I would recommend this guitar to every beginner!!! I ended up buying a full size narrow guitar from musiciansfriend a year later- but I still love and play this Martin daily.BUY THIS! It is only [$] and it is small, fun, easy to carry and a joy to play!!! I took off the 12GA strings and learned with 9 slinkies. Then I advanced to 10 and then 11 bronze. Buy the guitar and 9 10 and 11 GA strings and find what works for you. THIS guitar is the reason I can play now.

I have had this guitar for about 1.5 yrs, my son uses it to learn and play. I recently noticed that the tuning was not holding. I subsequently noticed the neck was coming away from the body, i contacted Martin, sent them photos and they said they would send me a set of strings as they WOULD NOT repair it.... This guitar has been kept in its gig bag and well looked after.

So be aware, these guitars do not last as long as you would like them too.
My experience with Martin customer service is/was akin to buying a cheap electronics product.

Little Martin For My Little Sunshine

By 2budz

Comments about X Series 2015 LX1 Little Martin Acoustic Guitar Regular:

Did my due diligence, researched for hours. Compared 100's of reviews between the LX-1, the LXM, & the Baby Taylor. Went to Guitar Center & played them. The Taylor sound is more tingy, more buzz. Could not get past the 2 noticeable screws in the neck. The LX-1 sound was fuller. Had much more body, with deeper, richer tones when played soft or loud. It was slightly heavier. The quality of the workmanship was obvious. It just felt better in my arms than the BT-1. Bought the LX-1 from Musician's Friend with the SKB-300 hard case (fits like a glove) for my 7 year old for X-mas 2010. Called them on the phone...very nice, helpful, & gave better deal when asked. Would use them again. My daughter's guitar instructor could not believe the sound, said it sounded better than her full size guitar. If your price range is $250-$300 you cannot beat this little gem for a 3/4 size. To me, worth the little extra for the LX-1 over the LXM. You will not be disappointed with this guitar. For a beginner, a child, or a travel friend, IMO it is unbeatable for the price you pay and what you get. First Class, 5 Stars. Peace.

Comments about X Series 2015 LX1 Little Martin Acoustic Guitar Regular:

Useable instrument, but just not up to the standards I believe that Martin Guitars should have.
I do have a D 45, a D 35, a D18, and have owned Martin Guitars most of my adult life. This LX1 is not what I expected from Martin. The finish on the Sitka Spruce top was rough to say the least, and it appears to have no seal or topcoat of anything on it. It also is not smooth as I have come to expect in a guitar from Martin. There appears to be pitted areas in the grain across it. The sound and playability is fairly good for a new guitar, but I will weigh in with an update as the strings break in some .. it is definitely a little bit tinny. The finish of the supposed rosewood fingerboard is also not what I would expect from a Martin.... no gleam or patina to it at all, just rough and dusty appearing, but the dust does not go away with a hand rubdown. It will obviously take a long while for the patina of the Rosewood to come through. I rate this as an 8 because it is well constructed, but just not well finished off.
As stated above, it is well constructed but it looks as if someone in the finish department was having an off day on this one.
For the price, this is an addequate instrument. It plays well, although tinny with the new strings, As a beginner guitar it is just fine, and my grandson will get it for sure. I am not sure that I will use it as a carry though, I am too used to the fit and finish of my D45. It does play true and the fretboard and frets are well placed, with minimal distance to the fret from the string yet it does not buzz easily.

      Simply Marvelous !

Comments about X Series 2015 LX1 Little Martin Acoustic Guitar Regular:

I purchased a Little Martin LX1 a couple years ago, and I still play it almost as often as my Martin OOO-16RGT. I installed a K&K pickup, and plugged in it sounds like a full sized guitar. Warm, lively tone. Comfortable to play, sweet little guitar, and still looks like new. I special ordered a pickguard from Maury's Music, and had it installed by the Luthier who also installed the pick up. The action needed adjusting, so I had a set up done, and it is as satisfying as a full Martin, but easier to hold for a long period of time. I special ordered a small hard case for it, so it can last forever ! Tried it out recording last week, and it sounds great ! Best guitar bargain around.

I have been playing guitar (mostly bass) for about 49 years and have had a lot of guitars during that time. This little guitar is the right size for my apartment for practice and has a full sized sound that is very rich. I am a happy camper and saved a roll of money too.

first of all I have small hands. I've been playing over two years and I wanted a good practice guitar. Well I love my LX1 it sounded good right out of the box. After about six week I noticed it started sounding more full. It has very easy action and stays in tune. I've had other guitars that I would have to tune after only a few hours of playing. It is sweet, you can smell the wood. Great second guitar. I love my Fender electric acoustic. And don't like to chance damaging it outdoors or while riding in a car. I highly recomend it. Half the size of my Fender

The minute I picked this guitar up it felt like quality. The sound is beautiful, rich but not too loud. I saw negative comments about the lack of varnish on the sound board, therefore suggesting the build quality is suspect. Actually the build is perfect, lovely woodwork, no rough bits, all smoothly jointed and finished really well. The tone is gorgeous, I fell in love with this guitar as soon as I played a few chords, I hope it will be my travel companion for many years. I looked seriously at the nearest competition. ......no competition...excuse me, but screws on the fret board?

I like the look of a clean face without a pick guard but with no finish on the soundboard I am already wearing away the sound board. I usually use a medium pick ...the orange one but started using a light to save FACE ...HA. Total failure. I bought some clear pick guards and so far they will not stick to a plain wood spruce surface. I am a instrument repairer and I am working on the problem.

Surprisingly playable right out of the box! A very friendly small guitar.
The Martin "Light" strings are just right for the action.
I could use some pointers about how to care for the spruce top, which is totally unfinished. Could/should I wax it?
This one's made in Mexico, and they know their guitars there!
            I'm a happy camper.

Comments about X Series 2015 LX1 Little Martin Acoustic Guitar Regular:

I don't really have anything bad to say about this product. All my experiences with C.F. Martin and Co. have been fantastic!
I've had my Little Martin for about four years now. It is definitely a little guitar, but it plays great! I bought this while I was driving truck and would carry it back and forth on my days off in the case I purchased with it. It is extemely portable and keeps a good tune, although, due to the smallness of it, it doesn't project very loudly. This does not really bother me though, as I bought it as a practice guitar-- not a performance guitar.
Martin is known for their great products! I haven't had to make any repairs to the neck or bridges. Altogether, it is all-around great quality!
I've seen small guitars around the same price range and tested them in the music store, but I didn't hear any of them sound as clean and resonant as the Little Martin. I would say that competatively(Especially for a Martin), this guitar is a great value!

Comments about X Series 2015 LX1 Little Martin Acoustic Guitar Regular:

Nice little guitar, but with all the competition out there I think Martin dropped the ball on this venture.
Didn't realize guitar was made in Mexico. Believe Martin should change name and start a budget line of guitars like Gibson & Fender. When I hear Martin I think of that dream guitar (D-28) Maybe they could call the line "Martinette"
Guitar is well made with no structural issues. I wish I could say the same for the finish, leaves much to be desired.
You get your monies worth. Guitar was bought for student 10 yr old. Works great with such a small investment. Immediately lowered the action and changed strings to make it easier for small hands and fingers.

Comments about X Series 2015 LX1 Little Martin Acoustic Guitar Regular:

Please remember, when you buy a 3/4 sized guitar you're going to get a 3/4 sound. The Little Martin is designed for a campfire while the Martin D-28 is for performing in concert. I'd recommend the LX1 for anyone just starting out who wants an all-around, knock-around axe with Martin quality. With the right strings, the Little Martin is a good choice.
As soon as this little axe came out of the box I knew it needed some work. As Martin specifically states: "This Little Martin is not designed to be cosmetically perfect." And they're not. I've got a few spots on the soundboard where the finish is blemished, but these imperfecions don't affect the sound one bit. I restrung my LX1 with some Martin M130s and it sounds like the real deal. The gig bag that the Little Martin comes in is also kinda classy - the Martin logo in gold embroidered on black...a nice touch.
The Martin quality is there and it's noticeable. Just remember, your Little Martin is not for display purposes, but for the camp, beach, roundup, rodeo or whatever. Make sure to get the solid sitka spruce top - it will help the sound a lot.
Hey, I joined this guitar with some Martin M130 strings, an Ernie Ball strap, a Dunlop Trigger Capo, and a variety of flat, finger and thumb picks. Since the Little Martin comes with the gig bag, you're all set to head down the road for Not a bad price at all and it's money well spent for endless hours of enjoyment.

This is a great little guitar. Good action. Good sound. All around great. I was initially surprised that the back and sides of the sound box are man-made material, not wood. This, however, does not seem to affect the sound or feel at all.....

I love this great, little guitar.

i had wanted this guitar for a while and when i found it used i had to have it. love the sound, which is surprisingly big for a small guitar. great for fingerstyle. good action right out of the box.
as advertised, no frills, straight up parlor guitar. good tuning keys. nice gig bag.
well made and finished. smooth fret edges. only gripe, and i'm reaching here, is that the strap button on the butt of the guitar could use a metal sleeve or washer as its a bit recessed.
cant beat the price. other comparable models do not posess the same level of quality found in martin guitars.
