I have two Martins and a Taylor T-5. I ordered the LX1E for a gift for the holidays. I love BIG CLEAR sweet Martin FOLK SOUND. Received this MARTIN LX1E guitar in a timely fashion from Musician's Friend. In great condition. Depending on your amp or amp settings this guitar sounds fantastic and delivers as a full-sounding Martin Guitar. It also has the ease of playability typical of a well-setup Martin, it CERTAINLY is a Martin. I was playing with the Fender G-Dec AMP on one of the ACOUSTIC AMP settings.

THIS GUITAR SOUNDS GREAT, i.e., sweet Martin sound. Rather than order a much lower-priced cheapish sheepish tinty sounding "guitar," lots of "bang-for-your-buck here. Martin fully delivers with a convenient travel guitar with the sound! Thanks to Ed Sheeran, this model is quite popular now, and is sold out at other retail outlets. GREAT JOB MARTIN & MUSICIAN'S FRIEND.

LXM is poorly made. I bought this for travel. The top is made of a laminate product and the belly popped after about 6 months of use. This caused the bridge to pop off.The guitar was not glued properly at all to begin with. The Martin representative sent me to a luthier at my cost to deal with it. I won't ever buy a Martin again because of this.
I have had it fixed at my expense and it is not great on tuning now (it needs a kid glove approach and fiddling for first 5 minutes or so)

Comments about X Series 2015 LX1E Little Martin Acoustic-Electric:

I don't write many reviews but I read them a lot and you really find yourself trusting what other people say. I first read about these on musicians friend. I was at a local guitar shop when I saw one hanging on the wall so I wanted to see what all the positive reviews were about. I was instantly surprised by how rich the tone was. I got home that night and ordered one from MF. I have had it for about 4 months and I play it every day. I am not being over dramatic. I really play it every day. That's why I bought it. Yes, I have more expensive guitars but I wanted something to sit in my living room and not worry about it getting damage or worry about the sun besting in on it. It's a fun fantastic little guitar. Easy to play and always stays in tune. For fun I decided to do some recording with it and it really sounds like a bigger guitar in the mixes. Really easy to record surprisingly. If you want a guitar that will be staring at you every day when you come home from work and is effortless to play, this is your guitar. I don't think I would ever gig with it purely because it looks kind of silly to hold, but its a nice little secret to keep in the house. Fun. Pure fun.

Comments about X Series 2015 LX1E Little Martin Acoustic-Electric:

This guitar is really well made and solidly built. It is not for a purists heart. The tone unplugged is muted, but sounds sweet, and lacks punch. The electronics are basic, but quite adequate. On board tuner works well but takes a little getting used to. Battery access couldn't be better. I'm ditching everything else and just playing this little guy for awhile. I can't keep my hands off of it.

      Comments about X Series 2015 LX1E Little Martin Acoustic-Electric:

My Martin was delivered in its gigbag, so it was double protected. Although most people have said the action was spot on from the factory, my action was slightly higher than I expected, so a visit to a setup guy was required. While I don't mind, those who are very picky should be aware that my interior backboard has a moderate size glue gob stain (that was wiped off).
Over all I'm very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend this as a great beginner/travel guitar. If you prefer a brighter sound and don't care about electronics, consider the baby Taylor.

      Comments about X Series 2015 LX1E Little Martin Acoustic-Electric:

This is the same guitar that Ed Sheeran, a very popular and fantastic artist, uses. And I know exactly why. It is, quite simply, the best traveler guitar you can buy. With the most crisp sound that you will ever hear in a traveler guitar. When you plug this thing into an amplifier, the sound comes out so crisp and clear that you won't even think you're plugged into anything. The action sits at a perfectly comfortable height, making it very simple to pick up and play. It is small, which makes it perfect for a musician like me. Taking it on an airplane is no problem, nor does it require a check-in.
My only real complaint is on the tuner model. The tuner is very, very poor. Fishman don't make high quality tuners. BUT the effects inside of the electronic set-up are fantastic. Over-all, this is my favorite guitar to play and I would recommend this guitar to ANYONE.

A Great Travel Guitar by Martin

      Comments about X Series 2015 LX1E Little Martin Acoustic-Electric:

Little Martin - LX1E - Acoustic Electric - Fishman Electronics with Built-in Tuner, Volume Button, Contour & Phase Buttons. Very nice padded gig bag included with a large exterior pocket to carry music books, sheet music and accessories. Back straps for carrying guitar on your back or padded handle to carry by your side. Construction is solid, quality is excellent and the Solid Spruce Top (light brown) against the darker (HPL) sides and back give the guitar an awesome look.
Once again, Martin's years of experience comes through even with their Little Martin Series. It's hard not to be a fan of Martin Guitars. The quality and craftsmanship is still evident in this downsized instrument. I own 2 others - a Martin SPJC-16RE and a Martin D-15 Mahogany. I also own a Yamaha LL-15 which I had used for 10 years in performance in a pop duo. I had always thought that the Yamaha was the best sounding guitar I had ever heard and played on until I bought my first Martin (D-15). I would never buy anything but a Martin now. The Little Martin is what it is, however, so do not expect that you will get the same large sound as the larger body guitars unless it is plugged into an amp. Yet, the sound has the distinct "Martin" quality that surpasses any other brand I have heard. It is solid and surprisingly heavy for it's size and the action is good although I will have my luthier look it over and make any necessary adjustments (The string height at the 12th fret is just a little high for me but is certainly not a problem). The Fishman electronics raise the level of this guitar to performance quality. I was pleasantly surprised to see the built-in tuner which was not mentioned in the specs. I used this guitar in church leading worship and everyone said it sounded great including the sound room crew. It sounds like a Martin.
You will not be disappointed in the quality of this guitar. It is solid, well crafted and despite it being called a "student" guitar, it is a real instrument that can be passed down from generation to generation for many years of enjoyment.
This is a great guitar for the price. If anything, it is underpriced.

Martin LX1E is great for kids

      By MusicMom-uZEWz

      from Stuart, FL

      Comments about X Series 2015 LX1E Little Martin Acoustic-Electric:

When my son asked for a guitar for Christmas a few years ago, I bought a $30 First Act guitar from Wal-Mart, thinking it would hold his interest for the average 7 year old boy's attention span of 2 seconds. When the kid took off like a rock star, I knew he needed something better, so "Santa" made sure there was a Little Martin under the tree the next year. A lot of the kid sized guitars out there feel and sound more like toys than serious instruments, but the Little Martin LX1E is every bit a "real" guitar with a professional quality gig bag, great features like the built in tuner, and a sound that can hold its own against the big boys. It never fails to make me smile when my now 10 year old goes to a gig or open mic night and not only are the older musicians blown away by his talent, they all drool over his guitar too. :)

      I Love My Little Martin!

      By CharlieGirl

      Comments about X Series 2015 LX1E Little Martin Acoustic-Electric:

I bought this a couple of months ago and it quickly became my favorite guitar. I got the acoustic/electric version, for occasional gigs. My Guild and my big old Gibson are still my powerhouse guitars when that fullness is needed, but this small guitar sounds rich and full, too, beyond belief. My only dislike is that when you use a capo it starts to lose it's fullness. Third fret or above, and you have a uke. (But I rarely use a capo, so not a problem.) I find that I practice more, using the Little Martin, and you really can take it everywhere! Being a small woman, I appreciate the small size. Oftentimes I can be seen holding it like a teddy bear on my lap, between songs. Buy it. You'll love it!

Got this as a "back up" Guitar for gigs. Having said that, it could be your main ax as well. This guitar comes with a very nice padded Martin gig bag.

Acoustically, don't expect a "full size" guitar sound. It does have a very nice sweet and (loud enough )sound with decent bass for its size.

However...Plug this into an amp or PA and you will be pleasantly surprised with the "big" full size Martin sound of this little peanut guitar.

Took a chance & ordered this (used )through Musicians Friend as it was the best price in our budget for a back up guitar.

Received the guitar in perfect condition, sounds great and everything (electronics) work fine. Changing battery (9 volt) is easy to get to. Could't find anything wrong with this (used) guitar....so I'm very happy!

        Comments about X Series 2015 LX1E Little Martin Acoustic-Electric:

I bought this for convenience - much easier to grab and practice than my Martin dreadnought, and I'm pretty happy with it. I love that it retains the fretboard feel of a bigger guitar, and the built-in tuner in the preamp is FAB. Having said that, it did take some getting used to the less-rich, more plywoody, boxy tone of this 3/4 guitar (not unexpected, just different), but that is just a fact of a smaller guitar at this price point - not a negative. I do recommend an immediate upgrade on the strings - the factory ones are just average. I would recommend this as a practice/travel guitar (unless you are of the caliber to get Ed Sheeran-like sounds from it!), but wouldn't rule out looking into a baby Taylor either- I was able to play a few in stores, and was satisfied with the sound compared to this Little Martin. PS: Musician's Friend had great cust svc - it arrived much earlier than they said it would- Happy playing!

        Comments about X Series 2015 LX1E Little Martin Acoustic-Electric:

I bought this guitar for my 8 year old grandson. He says he wants to learn to play and wanted an acoustic. Well, we'll see. I played a few 3/4 guitars at our local music shop and to tell you the truth for their cheap price they played really well but, they sounded terrible. I wanted to get him a better than average guitar that sounds good when you accomplish a clean chord, one that stays in tune and one with a preamp with tuner.
I considered the Baby Taylor and The Martin Mini. I read good and bad reviews on both. I decided on The Martin for no particular reason, the name I guess.
Anyway for me the neck is a little tight for my big hands but the more I play it the more comfortable I am with it. It's not for me but, I can see an adult buying one because it sounds good and it is small enough to travel with.
I think for the money it's a great first guitar especially for a young person with smaller hands and a good guitar in general for the price.

        Comments about X Series 2015 LX1E Little Martin Acoustic-Electric:

This review will probably echo that of others here, but for what it's worth:

        1) Yes, it's small scale, but the sound is as rich as a much larger Martin dreadnought. (I've owned two). This particular model is actually made of [some] wood, and that makes a great difference in the sound, which is rich and resonant.

        2) Fishman tuner seems a bit "off" but between your ear and the tuner, you'll be ok.

        3) Comes with a gig bag. I'll be riding my bike with this guitar on my back to play at church on Sunday.

A real joy to play. I was looking for a parlor guitar. I was looking at the Seagull Grand Entourage (I've owned a Seagull Mini Jumbo, which is a great guitar) but ultimately, I chose to go back to Martin, and I'm not sorry. I'm familiar with the Martin sound and keep going back to it. This latest "sleight return" is well worth it. You cannot beat this guitar for an all-around practice/travel guitar that you can play at the beach, at church, or at a small gig.

Outstanding when plugged into my Fender Acoustasonic or Behringer ACX (the sound will freak you) ... unplugged they're very respectable as a portable piece... campfires, kitchens, cribs ...

            Comments about X Series 2015 LX1E Little Martin Acoustic-Electric:

This is my second "Little Martin" which features the on board electronics and spruce top that my original one does not. Original one with synthetic material top sounds as good or better than the spruce top one acoustically. Original model gig bag is a little better quality too with thicker padding. Both are quite satisfactory. The Fishman electronics offer diverse and excellent sound quality that compliments the amazing acoustic sound that this model guitar features. Best guitar ever for new acoustic players... maybe the most comfortable acoustic guitar I have ever owned or played. It is by far and away superior to the Martin Back packer which is junk by comparison. You can carry the Little Martin in its gig back and readily carry and store it overhead on regular commercial airplanes too.
I give this guitar model my highest ratings possible. If you are even considering buying one, just go for it! You won't be disappointed! Oh, and after years of trying different acoustic guitar strings, I believe nothing is as clear, loud, balanced and long lasting as "Martin SP" extra light bronze for it and all acoustics. The little Martin comes with standard light gauge bronze strings that are OK, but I doubt they are the Martin SP's. Their regular SP lights come in a red circle marking while the extra lights come in a green circle package. If you prefer a little more volume and punch go for the Regular light(Red circle) strings, or for more speed and notes ringing go for the extra light (green circle) Martin SP strings.

Couldn't find one locally to hear with electronics, so I reluctantly ordered it without ever playing one. Saw a comment that someone else had done the same thing and they were happy. I am too.

Sound, looks, quality of instrument and bag were all higher than expectations
Wanted a travel guitar and got a great sounding little Martin. Very pleased all around. Will be even better when tweaked.
Excellent for an inexpensive travel guitar.
Guitar, electronics, gig bag and quality all exceeded my expectations at a relatively low cost.

              Comments about X Series 2015 LX1E Little Martin Acoustic-Electric:

Just received this guitar the other day. Very happy with the sound and playability. Comes great out of the box, though some may want to make adjustments. It really is a great little guitar and meets my expectations and needs. Really just wanted a small guitar in my living room to pick up and play when inspired and also something to bring with me during travel.

The only negative I have noticed is that I thought this would be more comfortable to play when sitting down. It was part of the reason why I bought it. I didn't realized how much I actually lean up against a regular dread when playing. I feel very hunched over this guitar and it hurts my back a little and digs into my ribs. Really this is just something I noticed. Won't be returning it because it is great for what it is and has met my expectations.

I was like...which one to get? This is the one you want...don't settle for the LX1 get the LX1e...don't even bother with the baby taylors. This has a rich sound and a fun feel...you won't be disappointed.

After reading all 26 rave reviews, I took a chance and am very glad I did. For a small guitar it can hold its own with the big boys. For a Mexican made guitar it has the trademark Martin quality throughout. Very sweet and simple electronics. A joy to travel with and fun to show off. I put an .011 set of strings on it and the intonation is still good and this thing actually rocks. I have two Martins now and I will never let them go. After fifty years of playing I thought I'd seen them all but this was a pleasant surprise. Many thanks to both Martin Musician's Friend for giving me such a fine instrument at a great price. I'm glad to be rave review #27.

Best bang for your buck...sounds great unplugged, feels good in your hands. Plugged in, the Fishman electronics really shine. Could easily be mistaken for a full size guitar through a decent acoustic amp. You won't find a more fun to play/great sounding little acoustic for the money. Top quality guitar!

                  Comments about X Series 2015 LX1E Little Martin Acoustic-Electric:

I was looking for a guitar for myself to start playing again (20+years ago was my last play, when my 8 years old son asked to learn acoustic guitar, and sincerely, I was thrilled! So I reaserched on the small frame guitars, and decided reading reviews on MF that a Martin LX1E will be the best start for a young boy, and will keep him entertained for many years to come. He is slowly working it, but in mean time, I play with it, and I like the sound a lot. I didn't plugg it in yet, and as a note, the system is on the side toward the neck, easy to read the tuner. The strings were strong for a kid, and for me also, so I changed them to Martin silk and phosphor FX130. They are realy smooth and light on the fingers, and kind of gentle, they would buzz at strong action, but the tone is so sweet and mellow, I really like it. I changed the saddle to a compensated Tusq at same time with the string change, because the saddle looked like a plastic piece, and had dings where the strings sit. Although the fret is small for my fingers, I can't stay away from it every day, so I am looking for a Martin for me soon. I didn't know much first, but found out that has a laminate back and sides, so I wondered how other guitars are sounding. I borrowd a Yamaha with laminated back and sides from a friend, and sincerely, the Yami sounds plastiky, definetely the laminated Martin sounds better. I gave a lower score for value, because I think price is kind of high, but probably Martin knows their place here.
