OVERVIEW

D-14 with spruce-grained HPL top and mahogany grained HPL body with stage-ready electronics.

The 6-string Martin DXMAE acoustic-electric guitar features Martin’s famous D-14 platform, dreadnought body design. The dreadnought was crafted to produce a powerful, rich sound that is perfect for the singer songwriter, as well as the professional touring and studio musician. The top, back, and sides is constructed using Martin’s famous FSC Certified HPL. For added tone and volume, the top is articulately braced with sitka spruce, in a 5/16 in. scalloped X-bracing pattern. The DXMAE has a powerful, rich tone, with all the sustain you have come to expect from a Martin guitar.

The mortise-and-tenon neck joint ensures solid construction of the guitar, with optimal resonant tone, while eliminating drop-off in the finer dynamics. The Martin guitar's laminate birch neck is a multilayered wood creation, using bonding layers of wood under extremely high pressure. The material is then carved and finished in a conventional manner. The end result is a very strong neck that provides definition and articulate sustain from note to note.

The modified low oval neck shape, 25.4 in. scale, 1-11/16 in. nut width, and 16 in. radius provide comfort and dexterity when performing intricate movements and progressions along the black Richlite fretboard.

This X Series Martin acoustic guitar comes compete with the Fishman Sonitone. The Fishman Sonitone features a soundhole-mounted preamp with rotary controls for Volume and Tone. The controls are mounted conveniently under the soundhole. All you have to do is plug in and play. You’ll have a great acoustic guitar sound, right out of the box.

Case sold separately.

Comments about Martin X Series DXMAE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar is a Martin in name only. I wanted a guitar with good electronics to plug in if needed but wanted a little of that "Martin Sound" when playing unplugged. The Fishman Sonitone works good but the high pressure laminate construction destroys the sound acoustically. Very quiet and generic when unplugged. I bought a solid wood Yamaha which eats this Martin's lunch. I think anyone would do better to get a solid wood acoustic and add their own electronics if they are looking for a similar set-up to what I was wanting.

Comments about Martin X Series DXMAE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for about 4 years now and it has been excellent for what it is! Very durable and doesn't scuff easily which is exactly what I was looking for in a guitar I could take around anywhere. The HPL has got a smooth and matte finish to it on all sides so it feels good overall. Visually it looks dull but I didn't mind this. Just be aware if you want a glossy finish for the stage.

It's got a nice balanced sound with a little bit of Martin low end to it. I've got to say the electronics are excellent and I can change the battery by lowering the E string and reaching in to grab the pack on the inside. It velcroes so you can easily take it in and out (may not be easy if you have bigger hands). Unplugged the guitar plays a little weak and unsustained. The materials are just not made to project the sound in a great way. Also it does sound a little tinny to me while it is unplugged (but most guitars in this price range do to me anyway). I eventually lowered the action a bit but it was great out of the box as well. The hardware has held up great in the 4 years I've had it.

This is a really fun guitar to play and it will do what you need it to do if you are just looking for something to beat around and take anywhere. The one thing I don't like is its weak projection so I only recommend practicing while it is unplugged. However, you can get a fairly rich full sound by plugging it in.

Overall, if you want a good practice guitar that is fun and will give you a nice sound (although subdued) while being excellent to play, go with this one. If you're looking to have a nice, glossy, rich sound unplugged then save your money up and buy something with a solid top.
