Solid Instrument for the Price

I wanted a twelve string for a change of pace from time to time.  I own a couple nice six string acoustic guitars and didn't want to pay a lot for a guitar which I only planned to use a little.  So I gave the Mitchell twelve a try and  this is what I've found. It's suprisingly lightweight.  The woods aren't great, but that coincides with the price.  Secondly, it doesn't always stay in tune.  Therefore, I tune it before I use it live.  Hopefully the rest of you do this as well, no matter the quality of your instrument.  Lastly, the electronics are not state of the art.  You've got Bass, Treble, and Volume controls, but in my opinion, this captures the sound of the guitar accurately. This may not seem like a glowing review, but it's honest and comes from someone who owns the guitar, plays it live, and does not regret the purchase.  Sure, I would love to have a Martin twelve string, but you've got to pay for it.  At this time, this is the right guitar for me.

It always amazes me when I read reviews that compare apples to oranges, Taylor to Mitchell when they are reviewing guitars.  No this is not a Taylor, but it is also a quater of the price.  Now for the review.  This is a great guitar for the price, when you are looking to not spend a furtune and still get a pro quality guitar this is it.  When you look at the price and how they got the cost down they took it from the proper areas.  Not the wood, or sound but design and electronics.  The electroncs sound great but are not overloaded with features (tuner, 3-4 band eq) but it still has everthing you need (2 band eq, volume, active p/up) from there you let the amp/sound board do the rest, sounds great, with a lower cost.  The design is a basic dreadnought design.  Not a cut away or jumbo, but a proven great sounding design that looks great.  These are the big reasons it does not cost more. The action on my initial set up was a little high, I just shaved the saddle down a little and it is just the way I like, but it was not bad as it was, but the action could have been lower.  The look of this guitar is fantastic, Great finish, and look (the picture does not do it justice, for a better pic goto the Mitchell sight).  It sounds very good, and plays very nice.  I will be playing it live and recording with it immediatly.  12s are the sweetest thing since sliced bread, if you never have owned one, try this one out.  I recommend this guitar without hesitation!

Had this guy for a few days, sampled it, then decided to return it for an exchange. I've played a few decent 12 strings before, Seagull, Yamaha, Takamine, but this mitchell really didn't measure up by any means. just by holding it you can feel its a cheap instrument. It has a bland tinny tone, doesn't stay in tune very well, very basic electronics, thumpy bassy action, basically the qualities of an entry level guitar but with a slightly higher pricetag because its a 12 string. Spend a little more money or shop around you could find something much better, but I'm thinking this is the bottom of the barrel.
