OVERVIEW

Super comfortable design with fast-playing neck and versatile electronics.

The Mitchell MS400 electric guitar features a thin profile, single cutaway, mahogany body and an easy-playing shallow-C mahogany set neck design. A unique heel joint provides supreme playing comfort and upper fret access. Includes dual humbucking paraffin-dipped alnico V pickups that reduce microphonics and unwanted feedback. Separate volume controls for each pickup let you blend as needed, while a pull coil-tap allows you to split both humbucking pickups into a single-coils. The flame maple binding and purfling further enhance the high-end look. High-ratio locking tuners provide precise tuning, while the jumbo frets and string-thru body design offer increased sustain and bite.

Before delivery to dealers, all Mitchell electric guitars receive a complete stateside setup and quality control inspection to ensure exceptional playability. Available in Black (BK), or Honeyburst with AAA quilt maple veneer top (QHB). Case sold separately.

First off this is a very nice guitar for the price. It comes loaded with some very nice features as well. Locking tuners seem well built and do a nice job of keeping in tune. Silicon nut to reduce friction, string-thru body, coil taps offer more sonic variance, great sounding pickups for being stock. Doesn't have as much low end as a Gibson LP. The bridge pickup is very hot sounding while the neck pickup is somewhere in between hot and cool. With the coil tap in the middle position you can get a very nice clean single coil tone. Although this guitar is made in China I have to give it to Mitchell guitars for coming up with such a high quality instrument at an affordable price. The construction seems very good and it looks very pretty. The finish isn't as vibrant as some other high quality instruments but it definitely does the job!

Bought this on a whim because the price was right, and it looked interesting. Immediately replaced the strings, but I do that on every guitar that I buy online. It took several tries for the guitar to stay in tune, but once it got there, it stayed put fairly well. Major bends knocked it out of tune pretty quickly. The guitar looks really good and plays well, with a nice low action. It is light weight and comfortable to play. Other than that? Well...

The pickups left a lot to be desired. I was playing this guitar through a Fender Twin Reverb and an older Peavey 5150 in my house. The sound is pretty thin for humbuckers, and the sound practically disappears when the coils are split. It was shocking how much volume was cut by splitting the coils, you'd basically have to have your amp set to use this either as a single-coil guitar or as a humbucker guitar.
The jack placement is really weird. I understand what they were going for with its placement, but it just doesn't feel natural. Lastly, I don't really know how to say this, but it just feels cheap. Cheap in the way that you sort of just know that the neck will be warped in a relatively short time, and the hardware will corrode or pop off easily. Yeah, I'm projecting, but it's an unmistakable feeling I get when I pick this guitar up. I cannot recommend this guitar to anyone other than a beginner, because in my opinion there are better options at the same price point. As a first guitar? Sure. Otherwise, it would be best to look elsewhere.

I ordered the Honey Burst color. Phenomonal guitar out of the box. Beautiful!. Very well made. It is approximately the same weight as my ESP EC 1000 and definitely lighter the my Gibson Studio. Neck and action are great. The pick ups were ok. Not the greatest sound out of them. Upgraded them with a Seymour Duncan 59 in the neck and a Dimebucker in the bridge, and now it is a wrecking machine.

Great value for the money spent. Didn't want to drop thousands for a honey burst quilt top from GIbson. This guitar gets the job done at a great price.

Comments about Mitchell MS400 Modern Single-Cutaway Electric Guitar:

Read a lot of great reviews about this guitar, and at this low price I decided to make this an early Christmas present. I was surprised at how playable this guitar is and how great it was set up right out of the box. I got one of the last black ones that was in stock. I just might have to buy one of the sunburst models when they are back in stock! Fantastic bargain for such a high quality guitar!

With a minor set up it plays better than my Les Paul. I may need to replace the bridge pickup. I'm still undecided.

Comments about Mitchell MS400 Modern Single-Cutaway Electric Guitar:

I like how similar this is to a Les Paul in design and materials but it's much lighter. I also really like the belly bout cutaway on the back as I use it mostly while sitting.

Played for almost 40 years and have owned as many guitars. This is the best out of the box guitar I have ever owned. Super playable. I am so impressed with Mitchell after receiving the Honey Burst and playing for a couple of days that I bought the black one too. I am looking to buy some of their other models as well. The big makers better look out, high end quality at an outstanding price.

This guitar was set up just perfect for me right out of the box. The intonation was perfect. I have had many guitars and this was the first time that I didn't have to do at least some set-up. The guitar is fairly light and looks great (honeyburst model). It has a good sound for the money and is a great buy for the price. This guitar, in my opinion is equal to some big brand more expensive guitars.
