An Ovation to end all arguments!
Ovation's 2005 Collectors' Edition introduces one of the most radical and innovative design options ever to be offered on Ovation guitars--the Deep Contour Bowl body. Made from lightweight composite, the Lyracord GS body produces maximum acoustic response, with the feel of a smaller instrument.
Along with the groundbreaking Deep Contour bowl, the 2005 Collectors' Edition features a select Engelmann spruce top, 5-piece mahogany/maple neck in natural gloss finish, deluxe grade ebony fingerboard with a 12th-fret abalone inlay and ebony bridge. Add in Ovation's Original Patented Pickup and OP-Pro preamp and this 2005 installment to Ovation's celebrated Collectors' Series truly commemorates sheer Ovation innovation for nearly 40 years.

I HAD to add this beauty to my "collection" of both electric and acoustic/electric guitars. I bought my first Ovation (Custom Balladeer) in 1993 and it soon became my favorite! I wanted to add one more acoustic/electric to my stable closely examining Gibsons and Taylors in addition to the Ovation -- I determined that in addition to being the best value, if it played anything like my older Ovation I'd be very happy. It arrived quickly, and it's BEAUTIFUL! The materials and craftsmanship are flawless and the sound is smooth yet brilliant -- and it's VERY quiet (noise free). The bowl is larger than the shallow bowl; however, it is shaped for those of us with something of a gut (old age). I did immediately replace the factory strings (medium) with my preferred light gauge and lowered the action by one shim and now it's perfect -- playing every bit as easily as my Custom Balladeer. Ovation didn't say how many of these Collector's they intended to produce, but I have serial number 45 of ...? One last note: Over the years, I have had occasion to deal with Ovation's (Kaman) customer service representatives and I give them an A+ from me for service and responsiveness!!
The ONLY problem with ovations is as i get bigger in the mid-section, it is less comfortable. With the new cut, the guitar is more comfortable than ever. It's, in my opinion, the best sounding ovation and has a great price tag compared to other guitars.
