Ovation

Ovation puts a spotlight on Slipknot guitarist Mick Thompson and his sweet limited edition six-string.

Anyone who's been to a Slipknot show will tell you it's all-out war. Mick Thomson (aka Seven) is at the front line, armed with his custom Ovation MT37, an acoustic-electric guitar that holds up night after night to Mick's aggressive performances and all-out chaos. Thomson partnered with Ovation's R&D team to design every aspect of his limited-edition guitar, making the MT37 Mick Thomson guitar the loudest and fastest shredder in Ovation's arsenal.

This 6-string acoustic-electric features a deep contour body for a heavier and deeper sound. The Ovation guitar features a solid spruce top and a composite body, offering balance and plenty of projection to get the job done. Thanks to the impressive top wood, and Ovation's materials and cutting-edge design technology, the sound of the Ovation Mick Thomson guitar projects well and is pleasing to the ears. Ovation engineers plotted the movement of the guitar tops using different bracing patterns. Through some detailed analysis, their scalloped X-bracing produces a rich, powerful sound that cuts through but is responsive at the same time. The cutaway shape on the upper bout, low- profile neck shape, 25-1/4" scale, and 1-11/16" nut width add comfort for complex and intricate shredding. The gloss maple neck on the Ovation guitar is strong, durable, and adds a considerable amount of clarity to the overall tone. The walnut bridge and ebony fretboard provide clear sustain, and the multi-sound hole design features amazing volume and exotic hardwood.

At the heart of every Ovation guitar is an impressive and cutting-edge electronics system, allowing the user to dial in a perfect amplified sound quickly and easily. The Mick Thomson guitar's onboard Ovation OCP-1K pickup delivers classic Ovation tone for a great plugged-in experience. The OP-PRO is an easy-to-use preamplifier that sounds great in a variety of playing situations, from quick finger-picking to heavy strumming. The OP-PRO combines state-of-the-art audio quality with guitarist-friendly features in a preamp that should please even the most discriminating player. Other appointments on the Ovation Celebrity Deluxe Mick Thomson guitar include black hardware, black tuners, and a black finish.

The guitar arrived and appeared to have been previously used. There was a chip in the headstock part of neck had been repainted. The fretboard did not appear to be Ebony, nor did it feel like it. Perhaps musicians friend is down to its b-stock and believes we can't tell the difference? I can't see myself ordering another "new" instrument from musicians friend.

This is the first ovation I have purchased, and I have to say I love the sound. It can be played right out of the box. I have only had it for a week and I can't put it down. Good action on the neck, with a deep projecting sound. A great guitar for the price. The only drawback is the fact that it is not american made.

I have the 09 model. Plays awesome. But what happened to the seven on the fret board? The action out of the box was a little high. But take out one spacer from the bridge and it was money. Nice guitar ovation!
