Ovation

A premiere acoustic-electric guitar with a koa top, at a great price.

Ovation's award-winning construction and technology is now featured in the CC24-FKOA Celebrity mid-depth acoustic-electric guitar. Its full, balanced sound is pumped out through a koa top and a composite wood body. A soft "V" neck shape allows for fast and effortless playing that suits any style from finger picking to power chords.

Ovation's Slimline pickup captures true acoustic tone and delivers a powerful signal with plenty of headroom to combat feedback in high-volume conditions. The OP4B preamp has a gain knob; a battery LED; plus bass, mid, and treble EQ sliders. The OP4BT preamp offers +/-12dB control over the bass, midrange, and treble frequencies for great tonal flexibility. Its on-board tuner is easy to use and helps you stay perfectly in-tune, even when using open or nonstandard tunings.

Features:

The small abalone dot inlays are a nice touch to the bound fretboard. The 1 5/8" nut width is perfect for my smaller hands and the V-shaped neck really just feels good. I discovered online that shims beneath the saddle can be removed to facilitate a preferred action - COOL! Gold hardware looks great on any guitar. I am especially impressed with the abalone inlaid rosette. The Koa laminate is really nice looking - it would be perfect if it were bookmatched which it is not. The electronics are not top of the line but that is not the reason I purchase an acoustic guitar - it is the acoustic sound. I am so impressed with the way this guitar sounds that it has been the favorite of my harem since I got it - and it is less than a fourth the cost of some of my other guitars.

Quality:

On the exterior I cannot find any thing wrong. Inside the sound hole I can feel some excess glue or finish but you can't see it, so it doesn't bother me. At this price I am impressed.

Value:

Like I have said, at this price it can't be beat. I have become a fan of Ovation's "off shore" manufacturer.

Overall:

I made my monthly journey to Mecca (the acoustic room at my local music store) and decided to pick up a black mid-depth Ovation Celebrity not expecting too much. After strumming a few chords unplugged I'm thinking: so this is what an Ovation sounds like! and at this price? I had never thought of an Ovation as an acoustic guitar, only as an acoustic-electric that had to be plugged in to make any sound at all. Boy, was I wrong! So, I started looking around the room for another Ovation with the help of my favorite sales guy. He pointed to this Koa topped guitar on the top row, I strummed it, and it sounded even better than the first one. This guitar's clarity and projection was really impressive. I thought: I can't beleive this, and I'm going to get out of here with this CC24-FKoa without going into deep debt. I really enjoy finding value priced acoustic guitars that really sound good - as good as my Martin and my Gibson and my Taylor. This is it. It is my favorite of my 20 some guitars these days. I have changed my point of view on Ovation. I'm keeping my eye open for the next Ovation bargain like this one. I really love this guitar.

Great buy for what you get!

Features:

The on board tuner is a very good addition to a very great guitar. The way that this guitar produces sound and projects it where it needs to go stuns me. The electronics on it are good enough to be used by someone playing in a small venue, but i don't know how well they would hold up in a substantial amount of space.

Quality:

I love the way that the sound goes straight out instead of resonating in amongst the guitar itself. It is built to last. The only problem I have had is that the input jack fell out, but it was a very easy and inexpensive fix.

Value:

The best thing about this guitar is the quality you get for the price. This is a very inexpensive guitar, especially in the standards of Ovation, and I would choose and have chose it over a guitar twice and three times the price, but still fell short on sound quality and playability.

Overall:

A great buy for a great guitar. You cannot go wrong with this guitar.

Beautiful Guitar, Sounds Great, But Still Sucks!

| Review By: Sam Tucker | 9 months, 1 week ago

Features:

Beautiful top, good tuners, very good tone.

Quality:

Fit and finish suck, action way to high and can't lower enough, neck set at odd angle to guitar top, crude craftsmanship.

Value:

It's a great guitar if YOU don't have to play it.  Action is terrible and there is no feasible way to lower it enough to make it acceptable - acceptable to me anyway.  I have a couple of Takamines that are made in China, about the same price as this Ovation, and are far superior guitars.

Overall:

I've been playing guitars for amost 50 years and at one time or another owned at least one of just about every guitar worth having (and some that weren't worth having).  I keep about 10 guitars onhand for my personal use at all times, trying to always maintain a stable of the best.  I recently bought a new Ovation KOA top acoustic electric, model CC24-FKOA.  I bought knowing I probably wasn't going to like it becuase it's made in China, and most guitars from China suck.  Not all of them, but most.  The only reason I wanted it was because of the good looking koa wood top, and because Ovations generally sound really good both acoustically and amp'd for a cheaper guitar.  I ordered it becuase no local shops had one.  When it arrived, I got just about what I had expected.  The koa wood top is beautiful, the sound is very good, and everything else sucks.  The action is about 3/8" too high - not way to lower it to an acceptable height.  The neck is straight, but appears is set at a weird angle in relation to the top of the guitar, really crude craftsmanship all over.  And the jack plug is placed in a stupid area on the back of the guitar body.  Just wanted to give everyone a heads up on what to expect if you order one of these.

I couldn't be more pleased with this guitar.     Great sound, great look, great value.     I would recommend this to anyone.

Not crazy about the on-board tuner.     I never really use it.

Overall, this is a great guitar.     It has a crisp, full sound.     It plays well.     I have small hands and short fingers, so the small neck is wonderful for me.     It's a beautiful guitar.

Great value for this guitar.     I am glad I made the investment.
