A PRS fan will absolutely love to add this affordable model to their collection.

Those thinking about a Gibson Les Paul Studio should check this guitar out before making a decision.
2 Volume, 2 Tone knobs - pots are pretty responsive and does a good job allowing players to customize tone from subtle and clean, to hard overdrive sound.

Stop tail is solid, tuners hold well. Very basic setup, but does it well.
Excellent fit and finish. Flawless top and body. Smooth neck, and excellently set up from the factory.

Beautiful guitar. Compared to more expensive Gibson Les Paul Studios, the PRS SE 245 is a league above.

Pick ups are excellent out of the box. I initially thought I would want to swap them out with McCarty's or Dragon II's, but I may stick with them a while. The neck pick up is fat, but clear. The bridge pick up doesn't get too hot, but is amply responsive and crisp.
Great guitar and a great price. High quality instrument at an affordable price point. Closer to USA-made PRS in quality (I own a USA Custom 24 and an SE Custom 22) than other SE models.

I was initially struck by how similar this model is to a 1990 model Les Paul Studio I owned and learned to play on. I immediately felt at home on the PRS. Now comes the bad part and the reason I'm writing this review. I played this guitar maybe four times and on the forth time and in front of an audience, I got no sound from the bridge pickup. Musician's Friend allowed me to return it for credit because it was after the 45 day return period (only by a few weeks). This experience has left me feeling skeptical of PRS imports. I've played for 25+ years and never had a guitar die on me like that let alone one that's brand new.

Comments about PRS SE 245 Electric Guitar:

I border between professional and experienced. I play gigs but don't depend on playing to make a living.

Every time I need to see an improvement in my playing I go buy another PRS. I've bought 3 so far and each time my reason for buying is that after trying several guitars I found one that instantly made my playing better but for different reasons.

This wider neck expanded my use of the neck in ways I had no idea would happen. My hands and fingers are a little larger than average.

That means when I play the average guitar the neck and fret layout is too close patterned for my fingers to fit comfortably. Playing guitars with normal size necks all my life has required me to develop very precise movements and positions in order to avoid unwanted results. This has been good for me but has made my learning slower than average.

So finally I try a wider neck on an electric. I never noticed anything special about playing classical guitars which always seem to have wide necks. But the wider necks on classical guitars were not the same.

But when you combine the amazing quality of neck and fretboard that PRS makes, in a wider neck like that, it's magic because I can immediately play faster, smoother, and with less detailed moves to avoid the spatial crunch I was getting with narrower and slower necks.

Even this SE model (swore I'd never buy and SE) is perfect for stage or recording. The electronics are extremely versatile also with the volume knobs that also change the shape of the frequency response as you dial louder or softer.

The pickups are great. Smooth. A little less attack than humbuckers but more melodic and rich with sweet harmonics also. Love these pickups.

I always enjoyed a electric guitar that I could rip off heads with by hitting the strings with plenty of attack. But in real life it's rare you can actually use that to it's full effect without other band members failing to appreciate the instant intrusion of head-ripping-off decibels in their face.

So sacrificing a little bit of the attack of dual coil posts for the fatter single coil, dual magnet, sound of these PRS manufactured P90's.

Comments about PRS SE 245 Electric Guitar:

Every time I've bought a new PRS it was because the guitar design immediately improved my playing. My previous PRS is a loaded 24 Custom (Not SE) and I immediately found I was playing better because of the responsiveness of the neck and the overall design, feel, and sound of the axe.

However my hands are a bit larger than average. Especially the ends of my fingers. They are fatter than average. When I picked up this baby I found that the extra room on the neck (width) would prove to improve my playing because it was more forgiving and less cramped.

I took the unit home because I can't evaluate a guitar properly in a store with a lot of background noise and using it on gear I'm not familiar with.

After a couple of hours of playing I discovered that my improvement, even on this SE PRS, had improved significantly. I discovered that having just a hint more space between the strings has made more room for my fingers. That has greatly increased my string awareness when playing chords and has given me more room for error on finger placement. I could probably have used a wide thin neck or a wide fat. Mine has the wide/fat.

Now I don't have to hit each fret perfectly to ensure no buzz, no accidental muting, more room for tight fingering patterns, and the shorter 22 note scale (which I'm not used to) makes the fingerboard slightly more accessible than a 24 note fretboard which I've always preferred.

The neck design is very smooth which makes this one the easiest neck I've used for sliding notes, chords, and also the sustain.

My standard 24 with the narrower neck sounds a little better but it costs more than four times as much as this SE.

This is the first guitar I've owned with P90 pickups. At first I was not sure if I'd like them or not. The settings took me a little while but between the best settings for the guitar and my Marshall amp I coaxed out some very clean chime like notes that were fat and rich with sweet harmonics. I also discovered that once I got the clean sound at the top end I was looking for the bottom end cleaned up really nice.

Another cool thing was discovering the tonal changes that occur with different volume settings. Dialing down suppresses the brighter mid tones as volume drops.

This keeps the sound warmer and cleaner when playing at lower volume settings. Kind of like the "loudness" feature on a stereo system but automatically shapes tone as you turn higher or lower.

The P90's are fatter sounding than other single coil pickups due to dual magnets and wider magnet size to begin with. Kind of the antithesis of a dual coil pickup in the sense that it's a dual magnet pickup.

I got this guitar on a Black Friday special for half the normal price. If you've read the other reviews, you know this guitar is a total winner, but at half price, I felt and still feel almost like a thief. I got the gold metallic and besides the quality of the guitar, it's absolutely beautiful as it is not a "gold top". It is SOLID GOLD in every dept.

Comments about PRS SE 245 Electric Guitar:

When I first played thus guitar, I couldn't believe it was an import. To me, this one is a game changer as far as American vs imports. This guitar is as good or even better than quite a few American models, and the price is incredible for such a quality instrument.

With a few modifications, this guitar can hold its own with others that cost 3 times as much. It took a while to get used to the short scale, but once I got the setup right it plays like it was made for my hands.

The modifications I made were 3 basic ones. First, I replaced the factory nut with a graphite and put on heavier gage strings (Ernie Ball cobalt 10-46). 2nd, I replaced the pots with Duncan Malmsteens. But the really biggest and most important mod was switching out the factory pickups with a pair of Seymour Duncan alnico 2 pro Slash set. These pickups are low output, but deliver some of the sweetest tone you can get.

With these mods, this guitar can stand toe to toe with a Les Paul standard. Right off the rack, it is nicer than a LP studio.

PRS knocked it out of the park with an import like this one and it should serve warning to some other companies who are using their name to justify their higher prices.

Comments about PRS SE 245 Electric Guitar:

I am a guitar collector and i own about 15 guitars, 3 of which are PRS SE's. These guitars have unbelievable quality for the price.I own a Gibson Les Paul Studio, and in my opinion, the PRS plays better, sounds better, and performs better.I wish there was a wider variety of colors but beggars cant be choosers. If anyone is looking into buying a Gibson, I highly recommend you go out of your way to play with guitar,I think you'll be suprised and choose this over Gibson.

Note: (I have only compared this to a Les Paul Studio, I have not compared it to the higher models such as the standard or the traditional.)

Comments about PRS SE 245 Electric Guitar:

I recently purchased this guitar from a friend for peanuts. He brought it by and asked what I thought of it. I pulled it out of the case (unlike the gig bag which comes with it 'extra charge', this one had a nice hardshell case) and I plugged it into the closest amp (in this case, a Carvin V3) and the tone was excellent even with the factory pickups, but the main thing about this guitar was that the neck felt like it was made just for my hands. The picture on the site doesn't do this guitar justice, because it looks so much better. I know this is a Korean made "budget" PRS, but you wouldn't know it when you play it. I'm ordering a set of Seymour Duncan Slash humbuckers for it, installing a graphite nut (its true that the factory nut is too small for 10s), and making a few more slight modifications. The only Les Pauls I would ever buy would be a real LP standard or custom, and frankly, I think both are over priced. For me, this PRS plays just as good as my old LP custom, and once its moddded like I want it, I won't even be thinking about purchasing another les Paul for quite a while. IMO, for the money, there isn't another guitar out there that can touch this one. Believe me, this guitar is a steal.

I purchased the SE245 in tobbaco sunburst. Let me first just say, I am blown away with this instrument. The sound is superior to any other guitars that I have played so far. The kick of the sound is amazing. The only problem I have encountered is a little fret buzz, but with a quick change of strings and a little set up, this thing kicks some major butt!

I just had to pass by and enter my review for this guitar because is such an amazing Guitar for the price!. In fact, i just bought it 4 days ago and i have to say this: This is actually an extremely well made Guitar!. I was looking for a solid body guitar with humbuckers but somehow i didn´t wanted to go with the typical Les Paul. So, i checked this guitar out, readed some reviews on the internet and finally went down to my local music store and bought it right there at the spot!.

There are two things that really caught my attention on this guitar. The first one is that it´s so well made. I mean , i have 8 guitars already from different brands and everything from the finish to the parts and the wood of the instrument is well assembled. The second aspect of it was it´s sound!. It truly sounds amazing!. I am a huge fan of Slash´s Guitar Tone and i have to say that this guitar sound just like an Standard Gibson Les Paul. Yes it´s true!, I have played many Gibsons in the past and this PRS 245 really change my way of thinking about guitar brands and inexpensive guitar models.

Comments about PRS SE 245 Electric Guitar:

I purchased this guitar used (I got an awesome deal), so my experience might be a little different from someone buying it new.

Right away, I noticed that instead of the lines parallel to the bridge in the body patterns that I saw in the picture, it had blurry lines parallel to the strings. This may be because it was an older used model but I was a little disappointed by that.

The frets had a little buzz. I'm not experienced with the sound of a lot of different guitars, but there was definitely buzz, though I couldn't hear it in the amp.

Overall, I loved the sound of the guitar except for a couple times I noticed high frets sounding tinny and worn down, which may have been from the previous owner's use.

I recommend this guitar to anyone who, like me, can't afford the high end Gibson, PRS or Carvin models and wants a nice guitar to practice with for a few years. It records and plays live great, it's just not quite a professional's instrument. I see guitarists like Fredrik Akkeson using these on tour and to me it's an indicator that they're quality guitars that lose a lot less value on a tour, but at the same time they probably would not use an SE in the studio for their next album.

Bottom Line: Stop reading these reviews, you know you want it, just go for it! I don't think you would regret buying this guitar. I did get a chance to play a couple of them in music shops before buying, which I would highly recommend doing if there are any in your area.
