Comments about PRS SE Custom 24 Electric Guitar:

For the money a GREAT guitar. I did not like the nut pinching the strings to tight which caused intonation issues when bending or whammy action. I blocked out the tremelo anyway and cleaned out the nut grooves. Now works great. Bridge pick up a little to bright and thin sounding but works ok. Guitar feels great and looks perfect visually. Nice finish. I will sand the back of the neck a little to remove the finish a bit for better sliding. The frets are perfect. Nice weight. Over all very happy with PRS. I will not buy a ibson or ender ever again due to the build quality. Two thumbs up PRS! Thank you Musicians friend service for one easy return I needed to make on a bender acoustic! The Martin is much much much better.

Comments about PRS SE Custom 24 Electric Guitar:

I currently own around 70 guitars including 6 other PRS SE's and two Maryland made PRS's, a McCarty and a CE-22, besides the usual Gibson's, Fender's, Gretsch's, and others. I will say the PRS guitars are in a class by themselves, hard to find a bad one. QC is top notch. I wanted the SE Custom 24 because of the recent upgrades that were made to them, the new body bevel, push pull coil splitter, and three way blade switch. I bought this particular guitar sight unseen, you can count on PRS quality even on their off-shore models. I got the tobacco burst. I was expecting a nice guitar but what I got exceeded my expectations. The top on mine is stunning, nice wide perfectly matched flame, if it was a USA model it would be a 10 top. I know it's a veneer but you can't tell it and the faux binding adds that USA class to it. Couldn't find any flaws, workmanship is top notch. Setup out of the box perfect. I did change strings to my prefered brand and had to make some minor tweaks. It has the thin wide neck, all my other PRS guitars are wide fat so it took a few minutes to adjust but plays perfectly as expected from PRS. Mine weighed in at 7 1/2 lbs so fairly light. Nicely balanced. Frets dressed very well. Intonation right on. The beveled edge adds the class that was missing from the pre 2012 models, I won't say not as nice as the USA contours, just different and 100 x's nicer than the previous version with the flat top. The control layout is perfect. The ability to split the coils adds single coil sounds, very handy to have, the same as my McCarty, they sound much different, the McCarty is more vintage sounding while the SE version of the HFS and vintage bass sound more modern, but I like both. Pickups sound good, a lot of people say to replace them along with the nut the stock stuff stock works for me, I think it sounds fantastic, I can get good Tele twang, reasonable Strat sounds, and Humbucker sounds that aren't at all muddy (neck) or shrill (bridge). The nuts on the older SE's were questionable but the newer ones seem to be better quality. Stays in tune with moderate tremolo use. It is nice to see PRS always looking for ways to make improvements even with the off-shore models. That is a sign of a very good business model, giving the customer what he wants. The SE line is within most budgets and simply great guitars even at twice the price.

Definitely something to have. The pickups are great and so is the feel. the notes higher in the neck are clear and don't sound like garbage when reached with distortion. The gig bag that come with is also a huge plus, nothing better than free stuff!

Comments about PRS SE Custom 24 Electric Guitar:

If you're like me, you own more guitars than you like to admit to. What can we say, guitars have personality - they help us express ourselves. The Gibsons, the Fenders - they sound and feel like good old friends. As my wife points out, I have all the "friends" that she can stand. Honestly didn't think there was anything left out there that I liked that I don't own.

An acquaintance put the PRS bug in my ear a few months back, thought I'd give one a try. After reading and watching numerous reviews, decided to try an SE first before taking the plunge on a pricier model. They're a bit hard to find on the street, and I must admit that I was a bit iffy about buying a guitar online, but I've bought enough stuff from Musicians Friend over the years to know they wouldn't leave me high and dry if I wasn't satisfied with it. What could I lose?

Am I happy that I took the plunge - I LOVE this thing. Whether you're a beginner or seasoned player, you won't believe what PRS gives you for the money. This guitar looks great, feels great, sounds great - if you don't have one, get one. Whether it's you're first guitar, last guitar, or another one in between, it's worth it. I still can't believe this thing, and it's been a long time since I've been able to say that.

PRS makes a model you'll like and Musicians Friend has a deal you'll like - you can't go wrong.

Comments about PRS SE Custom 24 Electric Guitar:

This is one of my favorite guitars to play. It's very comfortable light and good access to high frets. I was not happy with the tone of the bridge pick-up, which is the one I use most. Tone is a very personal thing, but I found it a little flat and overwound. I usually prefer a more vintage pick-up (e.g. Gibson '57 classic), but I love the sound of the JB on my ESP EC1000 Amber sunburst (see my review), which is the guitar I gig with now. I have subsequently replaced the bridge pick-up with a Seymour Duncan '59. Now the guitar sounds great. I like the simplicity of one volume and one tone with the way I set up the guitar/pedals/amp. Although I don't use the Wammy bar, I got that version for more flexibility on string height and intonation, and I have fixed the tremolo in one position for less problems with tuning.

Comments about PRS SE Custom 24 Electric Guitar:

I was pleasantly surprised that a mail-order guitar would arrive so well set up and ready to play. One of the reasons I bought this guitar was for the whammy bar, and this one is the best I've played, tight and always staying in tune. The neck is fast and the intonation is great, even down in the first position and high up. The only complaint I have, and it's a small one, is that the nut has sharp edges that catch my finger, but I can file that down myself.

Comments about PRS SE Custom 24 Electric Guitar:

While I'll classify myself as a "Semi-Professional Bassist" who's been playing that instrument for over 20 years and done Recording Session and Live "Backing Band" Gigging work and knows his way around how electric stringed instruments are made in general, I only had enough guitar skills to get the most basic of songwriting ideas out of my head and into the air. Thus my purchase of a PRS SE Custom 24 Electric Guitar (a 2010 20th Anniversary Model) to attempt to increase those skills, both as a songwriting tool as well as to be able to cover on a "Second Instrument" and make myself more appealing on the "Hired Gun" scene.

Firstly, compared to when I started playing in 1989/90 (as well as my Younger Brother, who is a Guitarist a few years younger than myself) the PRS SE series absolutely SLAYS any "Beginner to Mid-Range" guitar that was at its level of both price and "Built In..." status (in the SEs case, Korea which is a positive compared to other instruments made in lesser Far East countries these days) as well as Playability & Usefulness. This quite easily feels, sounds and quality-wise is the better of the vast majority of guitars in its price-range such as Epiphone, Schecter, and low-to-midrange Ibanez. It's made of 3 pieces of Mahogany so well crafted it's extremely hard to find any joint lines through the transparent "Scarlet Red" finish, topped by a solid 1/3 inch of Plain Maple and then a veneer of Flame Maple of looks. But the difference with PRS is that while most companies would simply place the veneer on top of the body wood, PRS still uses a nicely-sized piece of non-figured Maple for tonal value between the two... which you can certainly hear the difference either plugged in or not: it resonates acoustically, and amplified falls into the "Les Paul" category of using different woods that effect different frequencies of the guitar. Mahogany is a nice "covers all bases" wood, but a Maple top brings out the high-end and adds "clarity" to the guitar in general, which is why both woods are teamed together in guitars. It's great to see that PRS was able to make this work at this price point by using non-figured Maple underneath its Flame Maple veneer and give the guitar a true sonic character of its own. And PRS are consistently improving the SE Line, carving the tops at the edges that give the newer models a feeling closer to the 2K+ USA-built guitars as opposed to the flat-topped SEs from 2010 and before.

Additional, all of the hardware is solid and feels of quality - the tuners are fine for the majority of Tremolo usage, and should you find yourself going crazy on it are easily and cheaply upgradable to Grover 406 Locking Tuners for under $50, along with an under-$10 TUSQ Black XL "43x6mm" which are both drop-in replacements listed on the PRS website FAQ as well the Pin-Type "Tremol-No" trem stabilizer (another great modification for under $50 which will allow blocked drop-trem use, completely locked-down and all-around better tremolo "handling" and the ability to use Drop-Tunings with a Floating Tremolo.) The Pickups are also better-than-average for a guitar of this price and can handle anything you'll play - Blues/R'n'B, Classic & Modern Rock, Metal and even Dream Theater-type "High Note Definition" Progressive Metal.

I found that I was enjoying playing my PRS SE Custom 24 so very much that I was able to keep my eyes open and buy a New-Old-Stock SE Singlecut as well - in the small part of me that isn't a Bassist, I'm more of a Les Paul/Singlecut type as well, and have been just as impressed with it as well. And with an SE Custom 24 7-String upcoming in the Spring of 2013 for all the non-metal players who asked for a 7-string guitar that wasn't Black and/or pointy metal-shaped, all we need now is an SE Bass and PRS will be even further on the path to Guitar Domination! ;-)
