Light and airy with sting and snap.

The SE Custom Semi-Hollow has the same basic appointments as the SE Custom - mahogany back, maple top, 22-fret wide-fat mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, and SE humbucking pickups. The mahogany body has a "canoe carve" with hollow wings and solid mahogany in the center from the tailpiece to the neck join. The addition of a hollow chamber and modern sound hole give it a musical midrange and internal reverb, making it a very light, comfortable, and versatile electric guitar.

Unless you are an overly subjective weenie and your (obviously entirely too generous) girlfriend doesn't know enough about you to appease your passionately awful aesthetic taste, you really can't go wrong with this guitar for the price.- First off, it's light as a feather. I was very surprised at how light-weight this guitar was, while still being able to possess such truly outstanding sustain.- While the neck shape itself is as subjective to each individual's taste as the looks are, the quality of the craftsmanship (and with the whole guitar) is something that can not be argued. A+ considering the dollar amount, flawless neck with a great silky feel. Flawless finish as well.- The sound is amazing, depending on what you are looking for. To my ear, this guitar has a unique voice of it's own.. and that voice screams versatility. If I had to pick one word to describe it, it would be "Clarity".It's capable of the full-bodied tones you would expect from a semi-hollow electric, but it's also able to project either a bit more spank or a bit more jangle if you are so inclined. It seems at home no matter what style of music I'm playing (which is anything but the most extreme of metal). If you are checking the reviews on this guitar, more than likely you already like the way it looks. As someone who has one, I'd just like to go on record and say 'Wait 'till you hear it!'In this price range, I'm not certain that there is a better quality guitar.

This was a birthday gift from the better half and I must say that there is no way she could have picked an uglier guitar. The problem is the lousy pickguard on the natural finish model, I am ashamed to be seen in public with this turd. An uglier combination I have yet to see.Yes I like the neck and the way it plays but I do not like the way it feels against me, rather awkward. I wish I could get rid of this thing as I will never play it but I cannot without offending a wonderful woman. I will stick to my CIJ Strat and my Godin Velocity.

    Good Pickups decent guitar

    By Tucknfoldman

    from West Palm Beach, Florida

    Ask me a question

I have played this guitar and find it good. Not a great must have guitar but the quality is very good and the features are good, but the price is a little high, especially when compared to the Ibanez line-up of semi-hollows. The design of this guitar is very cool. Although I own an SE custom 24, I decided to buy the Epi dot deluxe, because of the sound and the price. I do wish it was lighter.

    Decent Semi-Hollow for the $$$

    By Pappy

    from Great Southwest Deserts

I've been looking for a decent mid price Semihollow body guitar to add up my collection. I already own a PRS SE ONE. It's a nice little bare bones guitar that is fun to play and has a decent build quality. I like the SE ONE, so I decided to go w/ this PRS SE.I got the black one. Nice build. Looks pretty. It came strung w/ either .009's, or maybe even .008'sWay to loosey goosey for me. I put a .010 string set on it the first day I had it. The tuners on my little SE ONE are okay, but the ones that came on this SE Semi hollow suck. I will change them as soon as reasonably possible. Action is okay, just hard to keep it in tune. I suspect the tuners. The Pickups are okay, but they too will be changed in the near future, along w/ the wiring and electronic components.Over all, as purchased and delivered, a shakey 4. This guitar is nice and fun to play, but not as great as I thought it would be.I'll bring it to my next practice & see how it performs. That will tell the tale.I own a couple Les Pauls, a few Fenders, a nice Firebird V and the little SE ONE I mentioned earlier. I've been playing on and off for neigh on 40 years and this is my first venture in to the hollow body realm.

    Go for it!!!

    By lawrence715757

Ok, just received this beauty in the mail today, and let me tell you...this baby is beautiful! Really one of the most attractive and comfortable guitars i own...fender strats, gibson les paul, ibanez...this puppy blows them out of the water! first off, its light...roughly 6 to 7 pounds, so you can play a long show while sparing your shoulders. the sound is incredible, playing through a marshall half stack... the tone can go from soft blue, to an acoustic sound, to distorted heavy metal and it keeps up! go for it, you will not be let down, and im positive this beauty will impress you totally!

I've had this guitar for over 2 years and its great the action wasn't setup right when i got it but a little adjusting and it plays like a dream and I love the neck. For the $ its the best guitar out there, the only down side is you are going to want to replace the tuners they go out really fast. Buy one they ROCK.

    Best Semi-Hollow under $1500

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

I was looking for an economical semi-hollow with humbuckers. I looked for weeks and I had actually found a nice used one and was on my way to go buy it and they had just sold it. I went looking and found this guitar and played it and was happy that the other one had been sold. Overdriven, this guitar rocks. The humbuckers are great for the money, the wood and workmanship are far better than any other guitar I've played under $1500. This is an incredibly playing, incredible sounding guitar. Team it with a Carbon Copy and 65 Twin Reverb and you you can only imagine the possibilities.

    Jack of all trades.

    By whitgift

this is truly a wonderful instrument. i got mine last year in april for about 520$ at guitar center brand new. the best color is tobacco sunburst which isn't available here. this beaut will span genre to genre with ease. i play a little bit of everything but mainly progressive music. if your looking for a jack of all trades I'd say this is the best deal for the money. try and look around at other places for better colors/prices. A go to guitar

    By Phillip-t5I2v

    from Topeka, KS

This guitar is truly amazing. I got mine last summer when they still had the blue. This guitar is one of my main go to guitars. I can get just about any sound I want out of it. Mine plays and feels just like the more expensive models. The only thing that I would suggest to mod on this guitar would be to get strap locks. That is all I had to do. I did however also raised the pickups closer to the strings in order to get a more heavy metal sound when needed. The guitar was setup perfectly for me right out of the box. In short this guitar is a great axe to add to your collection.

    Unbeatable for under $650.00

    By Anonymous

This is a wonderful guitar for the money. I've owned it for about seven months and have yet to experience the tuning problems described in some other reviews. Perhaps this because I use .010s and live in the Southwest. In fact, the thing has stayed in tune for weeks on end without having been touched. The instrument is good for blues and you can achieve some jazzy tones by rolling down the tone. Higher gain (I'm using a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe) will require a bit of compression. Also, a Tube Screamer will go a long way towards achieving acceptable distorted tones. Most importantly, the thing is just fun to play, even unplugged. I own a high end Strat among others guitars and find I'm grabbing the SE Custom most frequently. It should be noted that if one were to seriously gig with this the tuners may need replacing and the pickups probably won't be satisfactory for all playing situations.
