OVERVIEW

A special guitar for a unique guitarist.

The Paul Allender SE features a racy double-cutaway body with the outstanding wood combo of mahogany back and maple top with a flamed maple veneer. The 24-fret-wide thin maple neck is smooth and responsive to the most challenging riffs. Includes a PRS-designed tremolo that lets you dive-bomb like crazy and stay in tune. EMG-89/81TW humbuckers provide the crunch and molten tones you crave. Paul Allender bat inlays provide a distinctive touch.

Paul's PRS guitars can be heard on Cradle of Filth's new album, Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder.

Paul Allender, lead guitarist of the band Cradle of Filth, is known for his unique style. Paul didn't take any lessons when he was starting out on the guitar. This allowed him to develop his own style very quickly. With his strict right-hand rhythm technique and his chromatic writing style, Paul Allender's sound is easily identifiable.

Paul started playing PRS when he left Cradle of Filth and started the band, the Blood Divine. He purchased a second-hand CE-24 and used it exclusively throughout the band's days and brought it with him when he rejoined Cradle of Filth at the turn of the century. He then sent a design of his own to PRS. It featured a purple and black sunburst on a curly maple top and replaced the traditional bird inlays with bats for a darker but still classic PRS look. PRS built the guitar for Allender as a private stock model, but it eventually made it to production as an SE model.

First off I am not their target customer for this guitar, but I love it. It is put together well and looks amazing. I play mostly in my church praise band and I get comments about how beautiful the guitar is every Sunday. I have the emerald green. My wife surprised me on Christmas with this excellent guitar. I had played the older one and found it to be heavy, this one seems lighter. Now to the flexibility of how it plays. This is my first guitar with jumbo frets so that took a few days to get used to but now I can't stand to play my others without them. The dual humbuckers have also have a push pull pot to make them a single coil. So you have endless flexibility for tone. Overall I am very happy with this guitar.

I recieved this guitar last week. It was beautiful. The red burst was a deep shade that doesn't show on the website. My band plays 90's rock and I was looking a backup guitar to my 1980 Les Paul and my Explorer which had a different sound and feel. For the money the guitar was built well, the inlays were smooth and the neck played well. The downfall of this guitar for me were the pickups. They were flat and soulless in all settings. I really looked forward to the coil tap feature but these pickups just died in the single coil mode. I almost kept the guitar and upgraded the pickups because it played well but it seemed like a lot of work for a new guitar. Musicians Friend was great about the return.

Comments about PRS SE Paul Allender Electric Guitar:

Looks, comfort, sound all the PRS quality. This has become my favorite guitar to play!
The nut is a little wider than most making extra room for my fingers - very nice!
The oversize frets also have a nice feel and make it easy to feel my way up and down the fretboard.
Humbuchers and single coil capable with a pull of the knobs - nice.
Tone is great.
Set up perfect. Action is quick and comfortable.
On sale - I haven't played anything else that fit me better.

My 1st PRS & me likey !

Comments about PRS SE Paul Allender Electric Guitar:

I just got this 1st edition Allender, the purple one with passive pickups and it's a great guitar ! Last owner put gold locking Grovers on it. I love the neck joint feel and the only problem I have with the whole guitar is the position of the selector switch. A little far to reach but all the other goods bypass that 1 bad. Got mine for $400 so if you can score a deal like that, GO FOR IT ! You won't be disappointed I promise ! I have a buddy in a popular touring band whos sponsered by PRS and mine is very close to his signature model without breaking the bank. GET ONE !

Great guitar for the money

Comments about PRS SE Paul Allender Electric Guitar:

This is my firt PRS and even though it is an SE, I would buy another one and am in the market for another one. I have 7 other guitars, Epiphone, Ibanez, Fender, and I chose this guitar every time.
Great finish, always wonderful to look at. The gold finish is fading off of the tuners, that is why I scored this an 8. Pickups are great, tone is great, selecter switch is uncumbersome.
Gold finish is tarnished
I have the older version of the guitar. I am not the profile player for this guitar, but I can tell you that I have given up playing my Deluxe American Strat for this guitar. I am a HUGE Iron Maiden fan and I can tell you that the action lets me glide effortlessly over the fretboard.

Absolutely Amazing!

Comments about PRS SE Paul Allender Electric Guitar:

Ok lets get started this thing is a beauty the flamed top is excellent,I got it a few days ago and everyone just stares in awe i love the sound of the emg's cause its so chunky and bright all at once and the best part is the coil splitting you can make it sound like a strat or a les paul! The Harmonics sound off like nothing i've heard around here and the neck is the best I've played my les paul has nothing on it! It is absolutely a piece of art so i think you should buy it, Depending on yuor taste, especially if you like Bats :)

Absolutely amazing...

Comments about PRS SE Paul Allender Electric Guitar:

Bought this guitar about 3 months ago from a shop(i have to play a guitar before i buy it). I've played a few PRS's before and as far as I'm concerned no one else comes close to their level of quality with the exception of custom shops. Even though this is an import it still looks, sounds, and just feels incredible. The neck is thinner and somewhat wide. Action is the absolute best you'll find on a guitar in this price range and higher (better than any of the others i own). The ebony fretboard is a definate win and feels almost slick to the touch. Tuners are nice, not locking, but they hold up. I usually prefer fixed bridges but this one is very solid and holds up much better than a strat's. The pickups are great, very hot and are perfect for metal/rock. The coil tap is obviously not quite the same as using actual single coils but it does give this guitar just that many more options (i personally prefer to use it for clean parts). It's a smaller-bodied guitar if that means anything to someone. While i havent got the chance to take it onstage yet this guitar is perfectly suited for live situations. With the looks, playability, and quality of this instrument, you just can't go wrong. i can't stress enough how impressed i am with it. If you're considering it buying this beauty, go for it.

pleasantly surprised

By strider83

Comments about PRS SE Paul Allender Electric Guitar:

initially i was not looking to get this at all, however i had one prs se that i loved and this baby had emg's and a pretty nice finish and it was 24 frets so why not? I was misled by the salesman who told me it had an emg 81 in the bridge and an 89 in the neck. A brutally awesome metal combo. So i was hooked and took it home. This is where the fun began. I was a little upset to find out it had a 90 in the bridge and an 81tw in the neck but whatever. The coil taps don't do a whole lot but drop the volume and make it sound a little thinner overall, but i didn't get this guitar for that. I'm not a paul allender fan pe se either. Why get this guitar then? Because its a 24 fret - beautifully finished - extremely playable monster. the emg's are bright and give out alot more output (as expected) than the stock prs pu's, it plays nice, it feels nice and overall for the money you really cannot be the quality. I dinged it on value because i wish it had locking tuners but everything else is great. If you want a metal guitar get this. The prs se's even as an import still feel, play and are a higher quality than most other guitars under 1500.00, easy. Don't get me wrong, its not just a metal guitar, tonally it can achieve alot of different styles, but when a guitar looks like this you know it wasn't made for texas blues or country. Also as a general rule always do your homework, the one time i didn't lucked out, GC really lost my faith and future sales (due to general lack of knowledge not just on this product)

Inspired!

By Xochi2

Comments about PRS SE Paul Allender Electric Guitar:

My son surprised me yesterday with a PRS, SE Paul Allender guitar that Paul himself used in his apartment. I own and play a Strat Plus from the late 80's. The Allender model just blew me away! The 24 frets are super clean and extremely easy to make them ring. Clean "bending" is actually easier on this model than my Strat. This guitar plays very cleanly (a bit of a surprise). Super easy to change pickup modes while playing. Bat inlays are "sweet!" Even though I got this model free, the Musician's Friend price makes the Allender model a fabulous deal! Thank you Paul Allender, PRS, you just opened up a new world for me!
